KELLY CAME HOME WITH AN UPPER ARM BLOOD PRESSURE MONITOR TODAY

THESE TWO GUYS WERE STANDING HERE DOING BUM-SNUZZLERS
Not wanting to arrive at Goderich's Dynacare lab too early when most folks line up for their blood tests Pheebs and I took the long way around to Goderich on this drearily cool Thursday morning.  Weather people keep predicting warmer days but we are all still waiting!!
HE WHO HAS THE MOST TRACTORS WINS
AND HE WHO HAS THE MOST COLOR MATCHED FARM WAGONS COMES IN A CLOSE SECOND
A FEW FARMERS OUT THIS MORNING BEFORE AFTERNOON RAINS WERE UPON THE LAND
OF COURSE, NOT ALL THE BOYS WERE WORKING TODAY AS EVIDENCED BY THIS PROPERLY SPACED COFFEE CLUTCH IN CLINTON'S TIM HORTONS PARKING LOT EARLIER TODAY
I WAS SURPRIZED TO COME ACROSS THIS FIELD OF ROLLED BALES
AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT KIND OF A CROP THESE BALES ARE MADE UP OF.....SEEMS TOO EARLY FOR HAY
ALMOST LOOKS LIKE CORN STALKS OUT THERE
A few spatters of windshield rain as we stopped into our favorite spot at the Hullet-Marsh.  Far out on one of the larger ponds I could see pairs of Canada Geese with little dots between them.  Looking through my telephoto lens I could see they were families of baby Geese.

CAME ACROSS A TREE OF BUZZARDS
AND THERE THEY GO IN A GENUINE BUZZARD BURST
I've noticed traffic has picked up a bit on our local roads.  Saw a line-up of people waiting to get into Walmart so I quickly put that area behind me.  I can pick up a couple of my prescriptions at the Walmart Pharmacy another day.  Only one person ahead of me at the Dynacare blood clinic.  When the fella taking my blood snapped on a third vile I asked him if I would have enough blood left to make it back to my car.  He said he didn't think so.  Should have the results of those tests either Friday or Tuesday.  Monday is a holiday here in Canada.  Queen Victoria's Birthday commonly known as the May 24th week-end.
THINK I WAS JUST HERE ABOUT A MONTH AGO AND GEEEZZZZ YA DON'T THINK MY PANT LEGS ARE TOO LONG DO YA!!

A PRETTY SPIFFY PLACE AS I AWAIT MY FATE WITH THE BLOOD NEEDLE
AM SEEING MORE FARM ANIMALS OUT AND ABOUT THESE DAYS
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THESE SMALL DONKEY LIKE HORSES ARE CALLED....COULD BE PART HORSE, MULE, PONY, DONKEY, OR COW
Rains began in earnest shortly after 1 p.m. today.  Things have been very dry and this much-needed rain should kick-start our cold Spring's lagging growth.  I actually felt a wee touch of humidity in this evening's air.
THROUGH THE JEEP'S WINDSHIELD I GOT A COUPLE QUICK SHOTS OFF OF THIS UNUSUAL TWO-TONED SQUIRREL

I'M WONDERING IF THIS MIGHT BE A WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW
A couple months ago it was recommended by my diabetes nurse person that I get a blood pressure device to monitor my own blood pressure.  I've had perfect blood pressure all my life right up until this last 8 or 9 months when my numbers began going up.  So today Kelly came home with an Omron Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor.  The link says it's $99.50 but Kelly bought it today at Walmart for $57.77.  My first reading was 643 over 98.  I think I was a little stressed over the machine's price.  Oh, wait a minute that should be 149 over 83. (still not so good)  My Aunt Jean in Florida is a retired Registered Nurse so I thought I'd throw her a little curve there:))  Anyway, after taking myself over to my recliner and making myself relax for 5 minutes (no easy feat sometimes) I did a third reading which read 137 over 78.  Kelly's average number was 110 over 84.  Before going to bed I took a couple extra sleeping pills, waited half an hour, and took another pressure reading.  22 over 3.  Okay, Okay, so I really didn't do that.............
CHECKING MY BLOOD PRESSURE
GROANER'S CORNER:((   A woman was terribly overweight, so her doctor put her on a diet."I want you to eat regularly for 2 days, then skip a day, and repeat this procedure for 2 weeks. The next time I see you, you'll have lost at least 5 pounds."  When the woman returned, she shocked the doctor by losing nearly 20 pounds."Why, that's amazing!" the doctor said, "Did you follow my instructions?"The woman nodded. "Yes but I'll tell you though, I thought I was going to drop dead that third day.""From hunger, you mean?""No, from skipping."

When a police officer stopped a lady for speeding he said, "I guessed 85 at least." "You're wrong, officer, it's only my hat that makes me look that old."
-----------------------------As the plane was flying low over some hills near Athens, a lady asked the stewardess: "What's that stuff on those hills?"  "Just snow," replied the stewardess. "That's what I thought," said the lady, "but this fellow in front of me said it was Greece."

  1. When you take you readings, rest your arm beside of you with your hand on your lap.

  2. I have the same blood pressure monitor. The directions for taking a measurement say that your arm should be on a table so that the cuff is level with your heart. Maybe you will be taking pills to control your pressure. Thank you for all the wonderful pictures you continue to share. That helps us all with our blood pressure in these times!

  3. Rest you arm, never apply pressure with hand to hold arm at table/desk edge. Keep a log, date/time left arm/right arm. SO take it in both arms and log it in notebook/spreadsheet. Take upon waking, before you get up. Also... since you enjoy reading books... a really good book to read is The Diabetic Code. The last chapter is absolutely the best one, and the one that will give you the best knowledge about diabetes and how to really get rid of it. Also, Dr. Fung has some fantastic youtube videos. Very Educational. Another excellent book is "Goodbye Pills and Needles"... PS I think the critters are out to get ya Al, they will make you work for their photos!!!

  4. For what it’s worth, Al...my doc threw this one at me: Besides resting your arm, make sure your feet are flat on the floor. My position whenever I am seated near any piece of medical equipment is to tuck my feet back under the chair on my toes, ready to launch!

  5. If that cute little horse would mingle with the cows you took pictures of they could be brothers and sisters. If I want to surprise the local nurses here I go for a blood pressure test. Mine is 125 over 65. Nurse says I am the healthiest guy in her records.

  6. Al, those round bales are common here in southern Illinois, the farmers bale up the corn stubble and use it for bedding. I enjoy your blog Al. Thanks! Max

  7. You sure did get a lot of blood pressure advice. I've always had low blood pressure until the last few years and now it vascilates from one extreme to another. Love those cute little burros and the very unique two tones black squirrel. I've seen black squirrels and red squirrels but never a combo.

  9. I wondered if those round bales were Corn stubble, or even a field of corn that didn't get harvested last fall. Neat two-tone squirrel!
