A CRAPPY WEATHER DAY SO LET'S CLIMB ABOARD 'MEMORY LANE' AND HEAD OFF TO LONE PINE CALIFORNIA AND THE ALABAMA HILLS

JEEPING AROUND IN THE ALABAMA HILLS WEST OF LONE PINE, CALIFORNIA MARCH 2011
As hard as I looked I could not find one snitch of snow left anywhere this morning but not to worry, looks like we have lots of new stuff headed our way this week.  Overnight +40F temps really put the run on the white stuff.  Under bleak rainy skies this morning Pheebs and I did not go far.  A walk around the Bayfield cemetery and home again.  Not even one photo and I think I am going to have to put in some extra time with my Verilux Happy Light again.  A year ago today Pheebs and I were wandering the snowy roads up in Amish-Mennonite Country.
THE SNOWY MOUNTAIN RANGE ON THE HORIZON IS THE SIERRA NEVADAS
ONCE YOU HAVE WANDERED THROUGH THE ALABAMA HILLS YOU WILL NEVER FORGET THEM
Turned out to be another good day for me testing my patience with some of my new blog features.  For 'Memory Lane' I'm getting to re-know my way around Google Photo Albums so it's getting a little easier for me to put things together.  Same with 'Al's Favs' but progress is a bit slower trying to find a clear cut way to feature music pieces.  Signed up for the free 'Spotify' but it still has me pretty much baffled.  I think maybe they make it a little difficult in hopes one will sign up for the Premium package at $$$$.  I don't know, it's just how it seems to me.  Two other things I have under consideration simply because I will have a lot of time on my hands this winter is the editing program 'Adobe Lightroom' and maybe another feature on my blog having to do with some short videos.  I think to do videos I would need a stronger photo editing program than my free Picasa.  I have to be able to edit the videos and I'm pretty sure I can't do that with Picasa and as of tonight I've even forgot how to add a video to Picasa.  I've done it before but.... well you know.  I've been mentioning Lightroom and videos for quite awhile but with my new Nikon CP900 now it has perked my interest again.
AGAIN WE WERE SOOOOOO LUCKY NOT TO BE SURROUNDED BY OTHER RV'S AND CAMPER PEOPLE
It pretty much rained all day so there were no afternoon walks or any puttering around outside doing things.  Temps continued to slowly drop and we are expected to be below freezing by morning.  At least that makes the frozen country roads more travelable and cleaner to negotiate without all the mud.  I didn't take a single photo all day but Kelly did.  Last summer after selling our Motorhome I built a little divider where the rig used to sit and on either end of that divider I had a couple potted cedar trees.  I intended to plant those trees this fall in the same area as the divider but had been waiting for the tree cutter guy to finish cutting down a big tree where I had hoped to plant the cedars.  Well the tree is still there waiting to be cut down and I didn't want the cedars sitting out in their cedar pots all winter so I dug a hole in the back yard and put the potted cedars in, back filled with dirt and covered the hole with pine needles and leaves. (just the pots not the trees)  I'm hoping that will keep the roots from freezing and with a good dump of snow for extra insulation they should be fine until Spring.

GOT EM IN THE GROUND POTS AND ALL
IT WAS RAINING ALL THE TIME I WAS DOING THIS AND YES I AM AS WET AS I LOOK
::Memory Lane::  I have many all time favorite places throughout the American Southwest and Lone Pine California is just one of them.  We spent a few days there camped in the Alabama Hills on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.  This was and still is a favorite area for Hollywood film makers with lots of old westerns filmed here.  It was March 12th, 2011 when Pheebs and I one morning went In Search Of Randolph Scott's Campfire.....54 Years Later.  And here's my photo album for the day, Movie Road.
I JUST ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS KIND OF COUNTRY

GROANER'S CORNER:(( A man goes to see his bank manager one day and says: "I'd like to start a small business. How do I go about it?"  "That's simple," replies the bank manager. "All you have to do is buy a big one and wait."

Q: Why weren’t there any nativity scenes in Washington D.C.?
A: They couldn’t find three wise men.

Teacher: If I have 20 cents and ask Ebenezer Scrooge for another 30 cents, how much will I have?

Pupil: 20 cents, teacher!
Teacher: You don’t know your arithmetic.

Pupil: Please, miss, you don’t know Scrooge!

  1. What a great experience finding the original filming locations of some iconic movies. Movie maps are available, but finding the original clip can be more challenging.
With a map from the Eastern Sierra we did locate all the locations for Tremors! Tremors 7 is now filming, alas in Thailand - not in the AH.
Dispersed camping in the Alabama Hills may soon change. So glad you had the chance to enjoy and share your visit ... back in the day.

  4. Those Alabama Hills look fantastic. I'm going to have to go there this winter. You're going to test your brain cells with that new software. Better get prepared Kelly. Don't kill yourself out in that cold and rain.

  5. In movies the Alabama Hills were the backdrop - but in your photography they are the Star. Truly spectacular.!
