SOME OF OUR SNOW MELTED TODAY BUT WE'VE GOT MORE ON THE WAY TONIGHT...OH YAY:((

I THINK SOME OF THE BIRDS WERE TRYING TO HIDE ON ME TODAY
With overnight temps rising to nearly 40F our recent heavy snow fall took a beating.  With no sunshine the landscape looked rather bleak and gray.  To say it was a drab morning would be putting it very mildly.  A real challenge for finding any photos.
IT'S WHAT WE HERE IN THE NORTH SOMETIMES CALL A DIRTY LOOKING DAY
OH DEAR WHERE DID OUR NICE GREEN FRONT YARD GO
I'm guessing it was one of the shortest Jeep rides little Doogins and I have had for a long time.  We were almost home before we had even left but somewhere along the way we managed to stop into Bayfield's car wash and hose a lot of road salt off.  All's that does is temporarily remove the corrosive salt and make way for the next big dousing which will probably be in a couple days.  I'll need to get a bank loan this winter to keep the Jeep clean.
WORK PROGRESSES ON A TEMPORARTY BRIDGE SO THAT OLD BRIDGE IN THE PHOTO CAN BE REPLACED WITH A NEW BRIDGE
THESE ARE TWO ARTIST CONCEPTIONS OF WHAT THE NEW BAYFIELD BRIDGE WILL LOOK LIKE....NICE TO SEE IT WILL HAVE A SEPARATE PEDESTRIAN WALKWAY
Back home, like it or not I had to get myself on the end of my snow shovel again and use a long 15' snow rake to pull a load of heavy wet snow down off our roof.  Needed to shovel out our garbage and recycling bins and with mild temps this morning each shovel full of wet snow weighed about 4.6 tons.  The problem with wet snow is when the temperatures drop below the freezing mark that snow can freeze solid making things very difficult and dynamite is hard to find this time of year around here in these parts.
I HAVE TO KEEP MY PATHWAYS CLEAR
THIS PATH LEADS TO THE BIRD FEEDERS AND BELOW IS OUR LONG HANDLED SNOW RAKE

It was one of those Sunday afternoons that just seemed to drag on forever.  With the cold and damp outside the only place for me to be was inside, so inside I was.  Reading, puttering around on the computer, some TV watching, and some camera fiddling.
RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH
I KNOW THERE'S A LITTLE BLACK CAPPED CHICKADEE IN THERE SOMEWHERE
AW YES THERE HE IS HAVING AN AFTERNOON SNOOZE
'I WAS NOT SNOOZING I WAS COUNTING MY TOES'!!!!
THE BIRDLADY OF BLOGLAND WOULD HAVE LOVED THIS ONE
And looking back in my blog to RVing days gone by on this date I see that twelve years ago today we were at Milt's Diner in Moab, Utah.

And at the time of posting this tonight right here in Bayfield Ontario it is snowing again which of course means the roads will be covered with road salt in the morning making my $3 car wash this morning a waste of money.  Could have used that $3 at the Goodwill Store to pick me up a half a dozen good pairs of refurbished underware.

GROANER'S CORNER:((  A man in Topeka, Kansas decided to write a book about churches around the country. He started by flying to San Francisco and worked east from there. Going to a very large church, he began taking photographs and notes. He spotted a golden telephone on the vestibule wall and was intrigued by a sign which read: "$10,000 a minute." Seeking out the Pastor he asked about the phone and the sign. The Pastor explained that the golden phone was, in fact, a direct line to Heaven and if he paid the price he could talk directly to God. The man thanked the Pastor and continued on his way. As he continued to visit churches in Seattle, San Diego, Chicago, Greensboro, Tampa and all around the United States, he found more phones with the same sign and got the same answer from each Pastor. Finally, he arrived in Texas. Upon entering a church in Dallas, behold, he saw the usual golden telephone. But THIS time, the sign read: "Calls: 35 cents." Fascinated, he asked to talk to the Pastor. "Reverend, I have been in cities all across the country and in each church I have found this golden telephone. I have been told it is a direct line to Heaven and that I could talk to God, but, in the other churches the cost was $10,000 a minute. Your sign reads 35 cents. Why?" The Pastor, smiling benignly, replied, "Son, you're in Texas now... It's a local call."

A dog thinks: Hey, these people I live with feed me, love me, provide me with a nice warm, dry house, pet me, and take good care of me... They must be Gods!

  2. Great bird photos. You and Kelly haven't aged a bit from 12 years ago. We're supposed to get a out 3" of snow tonight. Had a beautiful day but I'm stuck inside with a head cold.

  3. We drove by the Portal RV park as we entered Moab today. This trip, we are hotel traveling heading to our son's wedding in AZ. We carved our a few extra days ahead for a visit to Monument Valley and South Rim of GCNP. Both new for us even tho we have spent a handful of winters further south. Nice pics of your feathery friends as always. Stay warm!

  5. I always love your photos. You capture something that is elusive and yet not quite. There is always a hint of more if we could just be patient enough. Thanks for sharing Al.

  6. For some reason as I looked at those pictures from your RV trip to Utah it made me realize how difficult it must be for you to be where you are now looking at those pictures from your past. I think you're handling things a lot better than I would.
