MENESET PARK, SKY HARBOUR AIRPORT, THE BLUFFS OF HURON, AND THE SUNSET GOLF CLUB

In my Sunday July 7th post I had mentioned about Lake Huron waters being high and threatening the shoreline below the Meneset Residential Retirement Community north of Goderich Ontario.  In the linked article it talked about some homeowners atop the bluffs overlooking Lake Huron may be required to evacuate and possibly relocate their homes.  Pheebs and I took a drive through Menneset this morning expecting to see where maybe some units had recently been moved.  Nope, everything looked perfectly normal and I didn't see any moving preparations going on.  This is a well maintained Park with no dumpy looking places that I saw but OMG are the single dwelling mobile homes ever wedged in tightly together.  I could easily live in any one of the units there but I could never live in a jammed together community like that.   Must be older people in there who are at that stage of life where the majority of their time is probably spent indoors.  Soon as you step out the door you set off your neighbor's motion detector and appear on his radar screen.  Nice Park and neatly maintained units but it's not for me.
IT IS THIS AREA ALONG THE TOP OF THE BLUFFS THAT IS IN QUESTION
ALL THOSE UNITS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD ARE SUPPOSEDLEY THREATENED BY BEACH EROSION AT THE BASE OF THE BLUFF BEHIND THEM
Between Meneset Park and highway 21 Goderich's Sky Harbor Airport is located and I was actually surprised to see a few airplanes there.  Not a lot of air traffic in and out of this airport anymore compared to years ago.
On our way to Meneset north of Goderich we of course picked up a coffee at McDonalds and did our customary tour down around the harbour.
MORNING BEACH GOERS
ONLY ONE SMALL RV AT THE BEACH
Continuing north up highway 21 we next popped into a big housing project on the lake side of the highway called The Bluffs Of Huron.  I've been driving through here for a few years now checking on the progress of a big lease-hold subdivision going on.  By the time they are done in a few years I'm guessing they are going to have 500 plus single dwelling homes in there.  Again, I don't mind the solid new sticks and bricks houses they are building but like Meneset I could not live there.  Everybody's jammed in but I guess that is the way of things these days and I guess for elderly folks who don't want to have to bother with outside yardwork anymore it's just the ticket for them.  I can see when this community is fully occupied it's going to be crowded with traffic and at the moment where the community's road connects to highway 21 there is a huge traffic hazard there and it's just a place waiting for accident to happen unless highway turning lanes are put in soon.
I'M SURE LOTS OF FOLKS WOULD LIKE TO LIVE IN THIS KIND OF ENVIRONMENT BUT I AM NOT ONE OF THEM
I WOULD BE HAPPY LIVING IN A HOUSE LIKE THIS.....IF IT WAS OUT IN THE COUNTRYSIDE SOMEWHERE

I LOOK AT A STREET LIKE THIS AND IT JUST SCARES THE BE-JEEBERS OUT OF ME
YEP, I DON'T MIND THE ONE FLOOR HOUSES AT ALL
IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY YOU CAN SEE LAKE HURON BEHIND THOSE HOUSES UNDER CONSTRUCTION
AT BOTTOM LEFT A PAVED PATHWAY DOWN TO THE BEACH CAN BE SEEN
AN IMPRESSIVE CLUB HOUSE AND RECREATION CENTER
THERE ARE ACRES AND ACRES OF MORE HOUSING TO GO IN YET
I GOT A KICK OUT THIS SIGN....'BUY A HOME, GET A COMMUNITY'....I'LL TAKE THE HOME THANK YOU VERY MUCH BUT I DON'T WANT NO DARN COMMUNITY TO GO ALONG WITH IT

A couple miles north of 'The Bluffs of Huron' is the Sunset Golf Club so we took a drive down a side road past the greens.  I have always liked the looks of golf courses with their manicured greens and well thought out landscaping.  Despite having my own set of golf clubs back in the late 60's I never did take to the game.  Tried it maybe a dozen times and that was it.  Might has something to do with my overall disinterest in sports.  I never did care much for competitive things.  Always has to be a winner and their always has be a loser and I guess I might have ended up too many times on the losing side of things.
From the Sunset Golf Club north of Goderich we headed east along a gravel road incidentally called Golf Course Road.  Making our way through Carlow and Ben Miller we were again home about forty minutes later after making a ten minute photo stop near an old abandoned railway line which is now a popular Rails to Trails destination for hikers, joggers, walkers, and bicyclists.
AND TO THINK BIG RAILWAY ENGINES TOWING RAIL CARS ONCE CHUGGED AND STEAMED THEIR WAY ALONG HERE
We were home shortly after 11 and that pretty much ended another day.  For the most part I stayed in and filled up my afternoon with working on the blog, a bit of television, and some reading.  Sticking my head out the door around 4:30 I was surprised to feel how much todays heat and humidity had dropped.  Without further adieu Pheebs and I hit the Pine Tree Trail for a walk.  Had a few things to think about following an afternoon phone call...........
WISHED I KNEW WHAT THESE FLOWERS ARE,,,,I BET THE FURRY GNOME KNOWS:))
CATCHING A REST AFTER A BIG DRINK OF WATER
GROANER'S CORNER:((   A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost.  She reduced altitude and spotted a man below. She descended a bit more and shouted: 'Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago but I don't know where I am.  'The man below replied, 'You're in a hot air balloon hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You're between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude.  ''You must be an Engineer,' said the balloonist.  'I am,' replied the man, 'how did you know?  ''Well,' answered the balloonist, 'everything you have told me is probably technically correct, but I've no idea what to make of your information and the fact is, I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help at all. If anything, you've delayed my trip by your talk.  'The man below responded, 'You must be in Management.  ''I am,' replied the balloonist, 'but how did you know?' 'Well,' said the man, 'you don't know where you are or where you're going. You have risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise, which you've no idea how to keep, and you expect people beneath you to solve your problems. The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it's all my fault.'

  1. We checked out those communities quite a few years ago and love them crowded in like you showed. We may have options like that in our later years or an apartment (heaven forbid) not sure what our lifestyle will end up being when the time comes but we do have a lot of choices. for now.

  2. Golf does not have to be a competition. Only people make it a competition. I have played golf for over 40 years now and never play in a competition. For me it is a nice walk with a little bit of club swing now and then. Score keeping is seldom done.

  3. Well, the Cowboy would think exactly like you Al--maybe the house but not the community!

  4. How I agree with you about the crowding! Many neighborhoods here look about like your photos. The only difference is that the houses are much larger and very expensive. If someone in the house next door coughs, and a window is open, you could hear them. I was astonished a few years ago to discover a neighborhood where a person could not even walk around his house! The fence, and the neighbor's yard, starts at the side of the house!!! Thank goodness we are not quite that tightly packed in. And, you KNOW, we will be wondering about that phone call! I hope so much it wasn't bad news....

  5. Years ago I bought a house next to a "trailer park." They were all 8' wide older units. On Sunday mornings, I like to take a cup of coffee out and sit by the pool.I had a tall Oleander hedge that gave me privacy, but didn't stop the sound. I couldn't believe what I would hear. "So you had a big party last night." "The steaks sure smelled good." "I didn't think that loud guy was ever going to leave." It went on and on. Poor people that live in a trailer court have no privacy. The nosey neighbors keep track of everything. Phil

  6. Those are some expensive airplanes, way beyond my world. I enjoyed the history sign and learned something new. Now wondering about the phone call, RV or health?

  7. Al, those flowers look like Sweet Peas to me. We see them this time of year along ditches and field edges. Colours from blue to pink to white. So far we're staying in our own single family home, not as private as yours, but it's ok. I sudder to think about where I'll end up once Mrs.F.G. Can't care for me.
