KELLY'S MRI WEDNESDAY AND A COFFEE SHOP THURSDAY

WEDNESDAY::  Both Kelly and I are morning people meaning if we have things to do or places to go we prefer to get things taken care of earlier in the day.  Afternoons are for coasting.  Not so today.  It was late afternoon when we all piled into the Jeep headed for London Ontario.  Kelly's MRI appointment was scheduled for 6:45.  The days heat and humidity was ridiculously uncomfortable again and we had the Jeep's A/C maxed out all the way.  Dropped Kelly at the hospital's main entrance and headed for a grassy area at Masonville Mall where I could get Pheebs out for a walk.  A bit of a scare when we got back to the Jeep and it wouldn't start.  Lots of battery power and the starter was fine but it just wouldn't catch.  Tried five times and no go.  Waited about 5 minutes then tried again and it started right up.  Despite being worried about that Pheebs and I headed out west of London anyway.  How beautiful the countryside in the day's soft pastel evening light.  We are usually out in the mornings and how nice to see the day with deepening shadows falling from West to East instead of from East to West.  We were nearly back to London when my cell phone rang and it was Kelly ready to be picked up.  Pheebs and I were there minutes later.  Not having eaten anything since noon she suggested we stop at Wendy's for a bite to go.  We did that, hit the road, and accompanied by a fiery sunset had us a quiet relaxing drive with very little traffic all the way back to Bayfield.  We were home shortly after 10 p.m and I particularly enjoyed driving the last leg home in the dark.  Have always enjoyed night driving and it's something I haven't done in a long time.

On the way home Kelly told me about her 90 minute MRI procedure and how it was quite an experience.  She said it wouldn't be a good place to be for anyone having claustrophobia.  A very tight space indeed.  She said the weirdest part of the hour and a half scan were the numerous indescribable sounds the MRI machine made.  Had to lay very still and follow voice commands requiring her to hold her breath at times for up to 19 seconds.  Said there was no pain or anything but found the procedure uncomfortable and not something she would rush out to do again.  We will be returning to London sometime in August for the results of her MRI test Wednesday.  The findings from my prostrate biopsy a week ago today should be in sometime next week.  We are quite the couple at the moment both awaiting what we consider to be important medical test results...…………...

IT WAS A NICE EVEN ING FOR A COUNTRY DRIVE

THURSDAY::  Morning dawned hot and humid with weather predictions for an even hotter Friday coming up.  With a cold front due to arrive Saturday storm warnings may be issued sometime Friday.  A short drive for Pheebs and I into and around Bayfield before I headed off by myself to Clinton around 10:30.  It was coffee time.
ON OUR WAY HOME FROM LONDON WEDNESDAY NIGHT
Been a few months since I had a coffee with my good long time friend Jim from Stratford.  We picked up pretty much right from where we left off last time we had coffee.  Nowadays we generally put a time limit on ourselves of 3 hours but today we were turfed out a wee bit short of that by a gang of noisy guys at a table behind us.  No not the usual loud teenagers but a gang of about 8 old guys who were all obviously hard of hearing and hollered back and forth at each other across the table.  Stepping out of the coffee shop I couldn't believe how hot and miserably humid it was.  Before I reached the Jeep across the parking lot the sticky heat had my right upper eyelid sticking to my lower left lip, my forearms stuck to my upper arms, and my sweaty neck had glued my chin to my chest!!
JIM HEADED OFF TO THE WASHROOM WHILE I HELD DOWN THE FORT
Home again shortly after two I spent the rest of the afternoon indoors staying cool in front of several fans and our house's central A/C.  Looking forward to next week's cooler weather which should roll in Saturday.
IF I EVER HAD A HOBBY CAR IT WOULD BE AN EARLY 60'S FORD THUNDERBIRD LIKE THIS ONE I SAW TODAY IN TIM HORTON'S PARKING LOT
GROANER'S CORNER:(( It was the first time the pilot and co-pilot had flown together, and it was obvious by their silence that they didn't get along. After 30 minutes, the Captain finally spoke. He said, "I don't like Chinese." The co-pilot replied, "Ooooh, no like Chinese? Why that?" The Captain said, "You bombed Pearl Harbor. That's why I don't like Chinese."  The First Officer said, "Nooooo, noooo ... Chinese not bomb Pearl Harbour. That JAPANESE, not Chinese." And the Captain answered, "Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese ... it doesn't matter. They're all alike." Another 30 minutes of silence. Finally the First Officer said, "No like Jew." The Captain replied, "Why not? Why don't you like Jews?" "Jews sink Titanic." The Captain tried to correct him, "No, no. The Jews didn't sink the Titanic, it was an iceberg." "Iceberg, Goldberg, Rosenberg, Spielberg ... no mattah ... all same."

  1. Glad to see a post this evening, Al. Love the purple petunias. Seems like an awfully long time to be waiting on pins and needles for results of an MRI! Think of you both often and hope for good news. Thanks for posting.

  2. Both Suzie and I have MRI's she needs tranquilizer to to join that confined space, very weird it is. Good luck with the results.
Nice to get together with Jim again for your coffee blow out.

  3. Jeep doesn't start after 4-5 tries? Perhaps it was not in park all the way?? Perhaps the high humidity had something to do with it, but if YOU are not sure what it was, might be good to drop it by your shop for a quick look at.

  4. No MRI for me without sedation--don't think I could do it! I'm the drive through person in our family, Mike would rather go in.

  6. I feel for Kelly. I was in over an hour a few years ago and I self medicated against their wishes. I took four pills when they said I could have one. Worse I was face down with my breasts hanging in hammock type of thing. Finally I said no more, I can't take it and so ended the MRI. Fortunately what it was negative. Sadly as it was urgent I have to pay $5,000.00 CAD to have it done privately. Still better to have spent the money and have peace of mind.

    Hang in there Kelly.

Hugs to all three of you.
