MY CUSHY RECLINER SWALLOWED ME UP TODAY

KELLY WATCHES PARKER ARIZONA'S OFF ROAD TRUCKS KICKING UP VOLUMES OF DESERT DUST BUT PHEEBS DOESN'T SEEM TOO INTERESTED
It was 6:30 this morning when we heard a sound like the swarming of a million bees.  Opening the windshield curtains we saw far off out into the desert flashing red lights and whitish lights weaving and bobbing on the horizon.  They were easily 2 or 3 miles away and yet with our windows closed we could hear whatever it was...….and wait a minute, something sounds very familiar here.  Engines revving and gears shifting.  Kelly remembered Parker's big off-road race today and we knew the long desert track wound itself all the way down around Bouse here before returning back to Parker.  Race begins in early afternoon so what we heard this morning must have been a whole swarm of souped-up ATV's or something running the track in Saturday's pre-dawn calm desert darkness.
EARLIER THIS MORNING I SPOTTED TWO ATV TYPE RACERS TEARING ALONG THE OFF-ROAD RACE TRACK

YES WE SURE DO LOVE OUR DESERT SOLITUDE
EASY DOES IT ON THAT ROCKY GROUND
Sometimes I am just too darn comfortable to think about doing too much of anything.  This big cushy leather recliner of mine in the Motorhome has really spoiled me and it's all too easy for me to spend too much time in it's encompassing comfy embrace.  Tipped back with feet up, computer on my lap, Sirius satellite radio boombox right beside me and with gorgeous views out my side window and big windshield up front it's all too easy to almost relax myself into oblivion.  I say almost because always this nagging feeling I should either be doing something else or going somewhere.  Just my nature I guess and I suppose it has been instrumental in all the places I have been in my life and the things I have seen and done. Maybe one day I should try writing about some of those things that have never or ever will make it into my blog.  Well, maybe not.  See that's what happens when one gets to thinking too much while comfortably reposing in not only one's soft recliner but in one's own mind as well.
HAD US A STAY AT HOME RELAXING MORNING, AFTERNOON, AND EVENING
A mainly cloudy day with a few small patches of blue sky floating by dragging warm sunsplashes behind them.  Occasionally one of those splashes would come by and spill itself into our coach through our open side door and make all the furniture giggle.  I like when that happens.  Giggling furniture I mean.  Thought about climbing up on the roof to clean the solar panels but the thought remained a thought and the dusty solar panels remained just that, dusty solar panels.  Cold pizza for breakfast.  Holy pepperonies Batman:))
Winds really picked up this afternoon clearing out some of the clouds. A fair bit of dust in the air but at least the winds were not cold.  Set up a couple binocular tri-pods and watched the off-road truck racers tearing up the desert a few miles away.  Trucks were only tiny moving specs but easy to follow with volumes of dust being kicked up into the air behind them.  With strong winds blowing the truck sounds were carried away with only a few faint engines sounds barely audible reaching us.

ALL SET UP TO WATCH THE DESEERT RACERS A COUPLE MILES AWAY
AT LAST A DISTANT DUST CLOUD

For a much cheaper Verizon internet plan this winter we sure are paying the consequences.  When in an area with too many people using the same Verizon tower we cheapskates get shuffled off to the end of the line where there may be a few snippets of bandwidth left after the power hungry masses have had their proverbial kick at the Verizon football.  It's a double whammy for me trying to put my blog together each day.  Not only Blogger angst but always a poor and spotty Verizon signal as well.

Kelly did get me onto a free version of Word Press this morning but oh my the patience needed to figure out the site construction is not on my side.  I wrestled around trying to set up a basic site but even having done both Blogger and Live Writer myself years ago it was a struggle today trying to understand and fit the right pieces of the puzzle together.  And it is my own damn impatience which fights me every step of the way.

As darkness descended late this afternoon rains began around 5 o'clock and from my recliner I could still see bouncing points of bright lights way out in the desert as the off-road truck racers still weaved and bobbed their way through desert.  A hardy and dedicated bunch those fellows.

At the airport for a business trip, I settled down to wait for the boarding announcement at Gate 35. Then I heard the voice on the public address system saying, "We apologize for the inconvenience, but Delta Flight 570 will board from Gate 41."So my family picked up our luggage and carried it over to Gate 41. Not ten minutes later the public address voice told us that Flight 570 would in fact be boarding from Gate 35.So, again, we gathered our carry-on luggage and returned to the original gate. Just as we were settling down, the public address voice spoke again: "Thank you for participating in Delta's physical fitness program.

  1. Loved the photo of Kelly and the "relaxing" Pheebs! We struggled with Verizon signal parked exactly where you are near Bouse. Mosey on over here at some point in time and we will tame Wordpress for you.

  2. Please, can you put down GPS coordinates of your present location ? After 11 Feb. going moving to South from Lake Mead, so may we will stay there 2-3 days near the Parker

  3. Nice to hear you are relaxing some and enjoying the sunshine and some views. Hardest part for me with WordPress is getting out of my preset notion that I want everything to look the same as my old blog. If I let go of that attachment, and just go with the new, it isn't bad. If I have to switch I will, I have already set it up. but in the meantime, Open Live Writer is still working for me. keeping my fingers crossed.

  4. I would love to spend a day in a lovely recliner. Hang in there with Word Press. If I can do then you certainly can.

  5. Nothing wrong with a relaxing day. That's the best thing about being retired, you can do what you like or don't do what you don't like. Great picture of Kelly and Pheebes, that Pheebes is a real character!
The rain will wash the dusty solar panels. Keep on enjoying!

  6. Just curious. Am I the only one not getting your blog posts though I am subscribed through e-mail. After a day or two without any I did go directly to your site and caught up on posts and have visited every day since.

  7. I'm not so sure those email notifications work anymore. I think somebody else recently mentioned something about that.

  8. We spent the day driving McPherson Pass from King Valley to the Castle Dome Mine. That drive goes through some desert that must have got a lot of rain, everything was lush, blooming. Hardly looked like desert at all. Fun drive, high clearance and low range is recommended.

  11. Relaxing days are good, no need to travel anywhere, enjoy the southwest scenery warm weather, and a good book.

  12. Al, don't know if you saw this, but the Technomadia folks (Chris & Cherie) suggests that when the prepaid Verizon is going REAL SLOW, to turn it off for 5 or more seconds and turn back on, sometimes that helps, especially if the cell tower is busy but not overloaded. (Due to that race I am sure that tower was overloaded yesterday)

  13. What is that big circle in the sand at the left front of your coach? Did someone do a doughnut there before you parked there? Or was it a landing spot for a flying saucer?

  14. You are right about the doughnut. Kids on ATV's are always tearing up the landscape by doing that. Lots of desert doughnuts out here where we are.

  15. Thank goodness you got back into the desert.

It took me three months to set up my WordPress blog, a little bit of a challenge every day. Although mine is not the free version, how different can they be. And, I still use OLW.
