A BRIEF DOWNTURN IN THE WEATHER, BOPPING AROUND BORREGO AND DUE TO NOISY NEIGHBORS CROWDING IN WE MAY HAVE TO LEAVE

A GARDEN OF YOUNG SAGUAROS
Expecting predicted winds to begin in the night we were quite happy waking up to calm air.  With a clear cloud free night sky the Jeep had frost on it's windshield.  Touches of snow on some of the higher mountain peaks around us.  Bundled up we had a sunny morning walk and it wasn't long before the day began warming up.

MORNING WALK IN THE DIRECTION OF BORREGO

HAVEN'T STOPPED TO SHUFFLE OUR FEET AT CHRISTMAS CIRCLE YET BUT WE WILL
WE HAVE NEVER SEEN THE DESERT AND MOUNTAINSIDES SO GREEN
VINTAGE RV
Headed off to the Red Star Laundromat laundromat and were surprised to see it so busy.  Mostly RV folks.  Snagged a washer then headed for the grocery store for a few things.  Back to the laundromat, scored a dryer and took off for Calicos to grab us a coffee and two egg pockets.  The egg pockets were to be for supper but they didn't make it.  When in the new Borrego Springs library later a certain little dog found them and that was the end of our intended supper.  From the laundromat Kelly popped in the Frugal Coyote Thrift Store but came out empty handed.

PHEEBS SPOTS A PAL

YEP IT'S BORREGO SPRINGS ALRIGHT

When we left Borrego Springs last winter we had noticed workers beginning construction on some kind of building near the Library but we didn't know at the time that it was the new Library going up so we went to have us a look.  Well, it certainly is an impressive and well thought out modern library.  Kelly checked to see if our Borrego Springs Library card was still active and it was.  Took a bunch of photos so I will let them show you around the town's brand spanking new library.  Borrego Springs New Library

REALLY NICE COMPUTER ROOM

LATER TONIGHT I SAT WHERE THE PERSON ON THE LEFT IS SITTING TO FINISH MY POST

NICE MOUNTAIN VIEW OUTSIDE

COMMUNITY ROOM FOR SPECIAL EVENTS

OUTSIDE RAISED PATIO

OLD LIBRARY IS STRAIGHT ACROSS THE ROAD

PARTS OF THE OUTSIDE FACADE ARE RUSTED METAL WHICH WILL TAKE ON THE APPEARANCE OF THE SURROUNDING DESERT AND OF COURSE THE LIBRARY IS TOTALLY WHEEL CHAIR ACCESSIBLE

THE SQUARE WINDOWS LOOK INTO THE COMMUNITY ROOM

AND BORREGO SPRINGS EVEN GOT ITSELF A BRAND NEW POLICE STATION RIGHT NEXT TO THE NEW LIBRARY
From the library we slipped out to the south end of Coyote Mountain to see how many RV's were camped out along the Rock House Road area.  Too many for us of course.  In our earlier RV years we loved coming here to the foot of Coyote Mountain east of the Clark Dry Lake Bed.  Visually this was one of our favorite areas to boondock with massive mountain views second to none.  I always enjoyed walking the lower trails of Coyote Mountain but since the State Park has closed off a large area forcing RV'ers into a smaller section it's just too crowded for us anymore and we haven't boondocked there for a few years now.  Too bad because it was just the greatest scenic spot.
THE ROCK HOUSE ROAD AREA

THIS IS THE OVEN SITE WE SOMETIMES CAMPED AT

LOOKING TOWARDS THE CLARK DRY LAKE BED

HEADING BACK OUT ROCK HOUSE ROAD
From Rock House Road we slipped around through Coyote Canyon to where we knew a couple fruit stands to be.  Kelly picked up a sack of oranges which of course are grown right here in Borrego's many orange, grapefruit, and lemon orchards.  Again on our drive this morning we were reminded at every turn of why we have always returned again and again to beautiful Borrego Springs.  So much to see and do here.
WE CAME UPON THIS COMMERCIAL CACTUS GARDEN

AND THIS IS JUST ONE OF THE REASONS WE LOVE BORREGO SPRINGS SO MUCH
We could see bad weather coming in over the mountain tops to our west and by early afternoon temperatures dropped, winds picked up, and clouds slowly descended down the mountainsides carrying a few raindrops with them.
RAIN CLOUDS CLOSING IN ON US

Yes we are at the Borrego Springs Legion again this year and we were lucky enough to snag the same spot we had last year.  We were pretty happy about that but unfortunately a number of fellow RV'ers rolled in and we were soon crowded.  But it is what it is and we knew that could (and did) happen.
CAN YOU IMAGINE THE BAYFIELD BUNCH CAMPED IN CRAMPED CONDITIONS LIKE THIS...….NO, WE CAN'T EITHER

RIG'S REAR END IS RIGHT AGAINS THOSE TREES AND FOR ME TO GET OUT OF HERE I WILL HAVE TO DO SOME BACK AND FORTH WIGGLING

With our tanks getting full we knew we would be dumping sometime in the next few days and with the Legion having a dump station here we had planned to only stay a few days in this spot anyway.  If the group of older guys right in front of us get too noisy we will have no choice but to pack up and get out of Dodge and head for one of our quiet desert spots.....if we can find one empty.
Our Verizon signal is weak and having to use the miserable Blogger format where I have to go on line to retrieve and download my own photos it takes forever to put my daily post together.  Tonight I drove into Borrego Springs and went to the new library to do all the photo stuff.  Much quicker but still a huge PITA compared to the way Open Live Writer did things...…………….

  1. Thanks for the town and area pics. It stormed on the day I had planned to drive there. Those Police must have as much work as the ones on Corner Gas.

  3. In the Rock House Road picture those three rigs together blocking off that area behind them were there when we were there at Christmas time. There is an area right on the corner between Peg Leg and Rock House Rock on the opposite side of the road where we park. It's a large chunk of land for sale but we've never been told we can't park there. It may give you a bit more space and privacy.
Love the photos of the new library. A wonderful place, we'll have to check it out in the future. I also enjoyed the young saguaros, it's amazing what you can stumble on out here in the desert. Stay safe.

  4. I wonder how long it took to grow those cacti to that size?? I would assume that they are slow growers.

  7. The San Diego Astronomy had a Star party of sorts in that community room on Valentines Day. My husband did a presentation about solar viewing. The star party was supposed to be for the library’s grand opening complete with telescopes and night time viewing, but the original plans got rained out. So, Plan B it was. 30 hardy folks still turned out.
