FOUND US A NICE PASSPORT AMERICA RV PARK EAST OF DEMING NEW MEXICO

EASTBOUND I-10 TRAFFIC AT SUNSET EAST OF DEMING NEW MEXICO TONIGHT
It was a peacefully quiet night parked north of El Paso at the Texas Travel Information Center tn Anthony Texas.  We were the only ones there in the RV section with one lone truck over in the trucker’s area.  Our morning skies dawned clear as a bell and we sure welcomed Monday morning’s warming sunshine and big blue skies.

Our appointment at Fun Country RV was for 10 a.m. so we left our overnight spot at 9:30 arriving to our destination at 9:31.  Yes, quite a drive alright.  Although early, the friendly service manager took us right in and very quickly diagnosed the problem with our water pump so here’s the good news/bad news.  Good news is it was a blown fuse.  Bad news is they suspect the problem to be the pumps ‘pressure switch’.  The pump works but we cannot leave the pump on long or it blows the fuse.  They suggested we use the pump but turn it off after using and said we might want to wait until we get home to have the  pressure switch or pump replaced.  So that’s what we’ll do and see how we make out.  The pump is 12 years old.  At least right now we have a reasonably good working water system again.  I would give Fun Country RV two thumbs up and five stars.  They charged us a minimum fee and the whole staff was very friendly and helpful.  They had two little shop dogs and Pheebs had a blast with those two guys racing all around the place inside and out. And of course everyone there loved the Pheebs.

I think it was around 11 when we rolled out of Fun City RV heading west on I-10.  What a totally beautiful weather day it was as we cruised by Las Cruces New Mexico.  Very light traffic on I-10 towards Deming but it’s to be expected out here on the Southwest’s less congested roads, highways, and Interstates.

WE ARE NO STRANGERS TO THIS AREA AND IT WAS NICE TO SEE THE FLORIDA MOUNTAIN RANGE AGAIN
Still undecided as to where we’re going we decided to head for a Passport America RV Park I had spotted earlier on the Passport America site.  The El Rancho Lobo RV Park is located about 9 miles east of Deming New Mexico and we had to pay attention to directions on how to get there.  Although located less than a mile off I-10 on the south side the two access points off the Interstate are a few miles from the Park

CAMP HOST GAVE US A PACKET WITH LOTS OF INFO ABOUT THE SURROUNDING AREA….NICE PERK
DSC_7378
This Adult only RV Park is a true gem in the rough and we had a good feeling about it right from the time we drove through the gate. $11/night. $150/mth.  It’s not a high-ender Park with a pool and hot tubs, etc. nor is it anywhere near the other end of the scale either.  Neat and clean from what I have seen so far.  The camp host was a very friendly fellow and drove Kelly ‘and Miss Pheebs’ around on a golf cart to show them where things were.  Kelly said there is a really nice shower and laundry room.  I will make the Park rounds tomorrow and take some photos.  Just too tired today and with the warm sun beaming in the rig’s windows this afternoon I just stretched out in my recliner and totally enjoyed being right where I was just doing what I was doing.  From my chair I can see traffic going by on I-10 half a mile  or so away.   And the traffic noise is barely audible if your outside.  Totally inaudible inside.

Now for you country and western fans out there we might have something of interest here.  We were told the RV Bus Coach parked to our right a couple spaces away was originally owned my Mickey Gilley and later by Travis Tritt years ago.  The camp host was telling us about it.  We met the couple who own the Bus and they are from Nebraska.  Unfortunately they blew the engine near here but managed to make it into this RV Park.  Apparently the engine can be easily removed and the plan is for a diesel engine repair facility in Las Cruces to come out and remove the blown engine.  The coach will then be towed to Las Cruces NM where the new engine, mounted on the old engine frame, will be slid back into the bus.  The owners of the Bus said it is going to be a $12,000 bill by the time it’s all done.

MAY HAVE ONCE BELONGED TO MICKEY GILLEY AND TRAVIS TRITT BUT NOT SURE….IF WE GET TALKING TO THIS COUPLE AGAIN WE’LL ASK THEM

A WEST BOUND FED-EX TRUCK ON I-10 HEADS INTO THE SUNSET
It was sure nice to see those welcoming ‘New Mexico’ signs along I-10 today just south of Las Cruces.  It seemed to make our 13th annual Snow Bird journey to the great American southwest somehow official:))

GROANER’S CORNER:(( A man was driving down the road. He passed a traffic camera and saw it flash.  Astounded that he had been caught speeding when he was under the speed limit, he turned around and, going even slower, he passed by the camera.  Again, he saw it flash. He couldn't believe it!  So he turned and, going at snail's pace, he passed the camera.  AGAIN, he saw the camera flash. He guessed it must have a fault, and home he went.  Four weeks later he received 3 traffic fines in the mail, all for not wearing a seatbelt.

Q. Did you hear about the new sushi bar that caters exclusively to lawyers? A. It's called, Sosumi.

A little boy was attending his first wedding. After the service, his cousin asked him, "How many women can a man marry?" "Sixteen," the boy responded. His cousin was amazed that he knew the answer so quickly. "How do you know that?" "Easy," the little boy said. "All you have to do is add it up, like the Preacher said: 4 better, 4 worse, 4 richer, 4 poorer."

  1. Well shoot, I am usually very quiet out here enjoying your writing and photos, for years, I might add....
If'n it was me and I was a zillion miles from home and I had issues with my water pump...Again at a place I trusted, I'd just have them put a new water pump in; and no more worries..
    That's just me....
    Safe travels Kiddos!

  2. Rusty's RV Ranch is an interesting RV park in this area is down by Rodeo New Mexico about 20 miles south of I-10 in the New Mexico bootheel. They cater to stargazers. You have to keep your outside lights off and your blinds down at night, and it is DARK, especially when the moon is new like it is now.

    1. Yes, we have been to Rusty's and she runs a really nice RV Park there. I have a lot of nice photos from Rusty's and that whole area years ago. Last time we talked to Rusty was just over a year ago.

  7. Now this is a nice way to travel, a few miles, and stay for a few nights enjoy the scenery of different places and the southwest. No bug rush to get anywhere now that you are here. Thinking your new travel style this year stopping at parks in preparation for you downsizing to a smaller rig. There is a lot of nice parks like the one you are in right now and very affordable too.

  10. With an iffy water pump still onboard having water hookup is a good plan! We love those rustic places the best too! So many fun things to do around Deming - Rockhound SP, Adobe Deli, Hatch for green chili cheeseburgers, and Lake Valley Ghost Town. Hope you get to hang out for a few days!

  11. We never leave the water pump switch on, never have. Soon it becomes a habit and you'll not notice it.
Glad you found a park that you think you will enjoy. I think your day sounded wonderful to just sit back in your chair and do nothing but relax. We all need those days.
Hahaha, you didn't take the picture. I like that one!!
    Enjoy!!!

  12. Mickey Gilley first bus was an eagle ( I know that much because I worked on it )From there he went up to Prevost
Johnny Cash had 2 tour buses that were MCI’s which were unusual
Dolly Parton had a leased MCI it broke down My shop couldn’t get her fixed in time
She had a prevost sent from Nashville To continue her tour
Travis Trent First coach it was at 93 Eagle converted from a continental Trailways bus he also went up to a prevost
Unless they have a copy of the previous title I doubt very much that those facts are real
Most tour stars use prevost Conversions for the reliability MCI is not a reliable Coach

  14. I found Fort Cummings ruins to be a nice adventure for me several years ago. In fact I ended up making three trips out there to explore. It was an easy high clearance road you should have no trouble with. Pheebs might love it too.
