SUNDAY MORNING WALK ALONG A DARK FOREST TRAIL

DSC_5623

APPLES ALONG THIS MORNING’S TRAIL

Another clear and cool sunny morning but no wind so it was nice to be outside in the warming sunshine.  Took a spin around the Goderich Harbor, picked up a few groceries, and headed off out into the countryside with a hike in mind.  Checking ahead on the 14 day weather forecast it’s looking about perfect for me with daytime highs ranging between 61F and 70F with lots of Sun.  Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you:))

THE LAKE ONTARIO WAS DOCKED AT THE GODERICH ELEVATORS THIS MORNING AND YOU CAN SEE HER SMOKE STACK AT THE EXTREME LEFT

Near the corner of Porter Hill Line and Kitchigami Road there is a little known conservation type area right across the gravel road from a model airplane flying club.  Every couple years Pheebs and I take a hike through there and with cooler air upon us meaning no Mosquitos we climbed aboard the trail and off we went.  Did both loop trails and I figure it was a couple miles.  So beautifully quiet in the old Cedar forest with century old maple trees hanging low over the trail in places like ghostly apparitions standing silently vigilant.

Trails are not well maintained so we really had to pay attention to the faded markers on the trees.  Twice we wandered off the trail and had to re-trace our steps.  Not worried about getting lost as long as the sun kept shining and I could see which way the shadows from the trees were pointing.  Pheebs had a blast racing up and down the trails chasing unseen monsters hither and tither off into the trees.  The shadowed forest trail wandered over small hills and gulleys and that kind of exercise is just the absolute best thing for my bothersome legs.

DIDN’T KNOW IT UNTIL I EDITED THE PHOTO BUT THERE IS A PHEEBS IN THIS SCENE

When I noticed George from Our Awesome Travels in a comment said they were in the 12th year of RVing I had to gather all of my fingers plus a couple toes together to count that out.  We started out about the same time George and Suzy did back in 2006 so my 10 fingers and one toe told me it was 11 years ago now that we began our RV travels.  Of course that’s correct but George was also correct in saying they were in their 12th year.  Now 12 years does sound better than 11 years so I’ll side in along with George and say that yes we too are now ‘about to begin’ our 12th year of RV travels:))

HARD TO FIND THE TRAIL AT TIMES

PHEEBS HAS AN UNCANNY KNACK FOR ALWAYS FINDING THE TRAIL

An absolutely pleasant afternoon puttering around outside putting things away for the winter and trimming shrubs and trees back for Spring.  Not everyone’s cup of tea of course but I love having things like that to do that I actually enjoy doing.  For me it’s just one of the many pluses of having a sticks and bricks with just enough yardwork outside to keep me contentedly creative.  Don’t you dare ask me about cleaning windows though!!!!!!

OH-OH WHAT’S THAT LURKING BEHIND THE OLD TREE

YES IT INDEED WAS A SCARY LOOKING FOREST GARGOYLE BUT LUCKILY IT LET US PASS

GROANER’S CORNER:((  You might be a redneck if.…….

Exxon and Conoco have offered you royalties for your hair.

Your dad is also your favorite uncle.

Your classes at school were cancelled because the path to the restroom was flooded.

During your senior year you and your mother had homeroom together.

You're a lite beer drinker, because you start drinking when it gets light.

On your first date you had to ask your Dad to borrow the keys to the tractor.

Your parakeet knows the phrase "Open up, Police!"

You saved lots of money on your honeymoon by going deer hunting.

In tough situations you ask yourself, "What would Curly do?"

Taking your wife on a cruise means circling the Dairy Queen.

A man was annoyed when his wife told him that a car had backed into her, damaging a fender, and that she hadn't gotten the license number. "What kind of car was he driving?" the husband asked.
"I don't know," she said. "I never can tell one car from another."  At that, the man decided the time had come for a learning course, and for the next few days, whenever they were driving, he made her name each car they passed until he was satisfied that she could recognize every make.
It worked.  About a week later she bounded in with a pleased expression on her face...
"Darling," she said. "I hit a Buick!"

  7. Ogres and trolls and gargoyles in a dark forest - what a fun hike!! Our puppy pals are so great for finding the way in and out. Tessa always amazes me when she leads us right back to the Jeep :-) Love all the gnarly trees and stumps.
