OUR SUMMER SEASON’S LAST LONG WEEK-END BEFORE CHRISTMAS

DSC_5933

IT’S AUTUMN AT OUR HOUSE

I watched the remnants of Hurricane Nate heading north up through the States and thought if it doesn't turn or peter out soon it's going to dump a bunch of rain on us.  And dump a bunch of rain it did overnight before moving off to the northeast.  Third of a wheelbarrow to be exact.  Good thing it moved through quickly because Kelly's daughter Rebecca and her daughter little Ella were a part of Kitchener's annual televised Kitchener-Waterloo Octoberfest parade and Kelly was hoping to catch site of them riding on the 53rd float with a Canada 150th Birthday theme.  As it later turned out when the float went past the camera Rebecca and Ella were unseen on the other side.

Turned out to be one of those low energy days where I couldn’t seem to get my Jeep ride Mojo working.  Nice mixture of Sun and cloud but I couldn’t seem to tap into it.  Short jaunt to Goderich and back for Pheebs and I and we were home shortly after 10.

Always lots of outside things to be taken care of when transitioning from Autumn to Winter.  All liquids like paints and cleaners have to be boxed up and moved inside so they don’t freeze and burst their containers.  Clay flowerpots to be emptied and dried in the Sun so no moisture is left in them to freeze and crack the pot.  They then are stored in the shed.  Lots of stuff to be busy with and keep a feller’s mind off things.

This annual long Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada typically signals the end of the summer season as people and merchants now begin gearing up for Christmas.  Our nice weather may hold on for a few more weeks or maybe until the end of the month if we’re lucky.  For me the worst month of the year is coming up.  November is notorious for it’s cold damp temperatures, shorter dark days, rain, snow, and winds, etc.  November can be a very depressing month even for the optimistic positive thinker types……………

Sat here for the longest time trying to think of something for a last paragraph but nothing came.

GROANER’S CORNER:((  It was graduation night at Cox High School and they were about halfway through the ceremony when the principal said, "Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a problem, Bubba is a few credits short and won't be able to graduate tonight."   Well now, Bubba was the starting right guard for Cox's football team, and when the student body heard that he wasn't going to graduate, they all jumped up and started to chant, "Give Bubba another chance, give Bubba another chance!"  Pat Dye and the principal had a quick conference and afterward, the principal announced that they have decided to give Bubba another chance. Bubba is told that he will be given a "One Question" math test and if he passes, he can graduate.  The question is, "What is 2 plus 3?" Bubba thinks for about 20 minutes and finally says, "I have it! The answer is 5!"  There is complete silence in the auditorium for a couple of seconds and then the entire Cox High School football team jumps up and begins to chant, "Give Bubba one more chance. Give Bubba one more Chance!"

A doctor examining a woman who had been rushed to the Emergency Room, took the husband aside, and said, "I don't like the looks of your wife at all.”  "Me neither doc," said the husband. "But she's a great cook and really good with the kids."

Knock, knock.
Who’s there?
A herd.
A herd who?
A herd you were home, so I came over!

  2. Great post Al, considering that you had to work around a lack of jeep mojo. That would be rough for me, as my jeep is my toy and when I have no jeep mojo, well, I end up doing chores.
