NOW THAT THE DUST HAS SETTLED FROM SATURDAY MORNING’S PHONE CALL………..

DSC_6716

NO THAT IS NOT A SHARK’S FIN IN THE WATER

After gloomily sitting in the house all day Saturday avoiding the cold gray and wet going on outside I knew I could not repeat a second day like that so despite it being cold gray and wet again Sunday morning Pheebs and I fired up the Jeep's heater, cranked up the tunes, and headed out to see if we could find us something remotely interesting.

MIGHT BE AWHILE BEFORE THIS SIDE OF THE WET CORNFIELD CAN BE HARVESTED

LEAVES ARE BECOMING LESS EACH DAY

IN THE FORESTS WHERE TREES ARE SHELTERED FROM THE WIND MANY LEAVES ARE STILL HANGING ON IN THE FACE OF WINTER’S COMING ONSLAUGHT

The closer we came to Goderich the dryer roads became and I could see a few small patches of blue sky through the cloud cover out over the lake.  Well that sure sparked up my shorts.  With one of Kelly’s delicious pumpkin muffins with us we snagged a McDonald’s coffee and headed for the harbor and beach area.

THE HELENA G WAS IN PORT THIS MORNING AND IT’S THE FIRST TIME I HAVE SEEN THIS VERY LARGE BULK CARRIER

DSC_6714

I LIKE IT WHEN THINGS ARE PAINTED WITH BRIGHT COLORS AND THAT LARGE ORANGE OBJECT IS AN ENCLOSED LIFEBOAT WITH THE SMALL ORANGE BOAT MAYBE BEING A RESCUE TYPE BOAT WHICH CAN BE QUICKLY LOWERED BY THAT WHITE CRANE

DSC_6715

BECAUSE THE HELENA G IS RIDING HIGH IN THE WATER I AM GUESSING IT HASN’T TAKEN ON IT’S HEAVY LOAD FROM THE GRAIN ELEBATORS YET

DSC_6717

THAT SHARK LIKE FIN IN THE WATER IS ACTUALLY THE TIP OF A LARGE PROPELLER

I THINK THIS FREIGHTER IS CALLED A ‘SALTY’ BECAUSE IT ALSO SAILS THE WORLD’S OCEANS

THERE’S A LOT OF ELECTRONIC GEAR ATOP THE BRIDGE AND WHEELHOUSE….THE CAPTAIN’S QUARTERS ARE PROBABLY RIGHT UNDER THE BRIDGE

Lake Huron waters had calmed themselves after last week’s big winds whipping it into a frenzy.  Today’s winds were light so standing on the shoreline with cool temperatures upon us felt comfortable.  Noticed a departing lake freighter far out on the horizon  along with a few fishing boats.  I think the freighter may have been the ‘Algorail’ which had just taken on a load of rock salt at the Sifto Salt Mine.

Cruised around a few Goderich backstreets looking at Halloween decorations before setting a slow scenic course for home.  Skies partially cleared for awhile before clouding over again but at least we were rain free for the rest of the day and Pheebs and I did manage to get in a short afternoon walk between raindrops.

Dust had settled a bit this morning after yesterday’s Doctor call and we were able to talk over a few travel options with clearer heads.  We discussed going to Florida but the monkey wrench in that plan is Kelly’s abdominal scan which may be the end of December or early January.  Driving back either in the Jeep or Motorhome for a half hour scan didn’t make a lot of sense and for Kelly to fly back to either Detroit or Toronto then take a shuttle bus to London for her scan then wait for the results didn’t make much sense either.  Kelly wasn’t keen on that idea and I wasn’t either.  Most sensible thing for us to do is stay here and sit tight until after the scan results are in.  Depending on when the endoscopy bi-opsy procedure is done and the results known we will at that time decide if we have a chance to head for the Southwest sometime early in the new year.  Until we get that date nailed down we are again in a state of limbo.  With the slowness of our health system it could be weeks or longer before we even hear back about any appointment regarding the endoscopy bi–opsy procedure.  Nothing we can do about it, it’s just the way it is here……………

THIS FARM DOG FELLOW SURE GAVE US SOME MIGHTY BIG BARKS WHEN WE WENT BY

And a big thank you from both Kelly and I to all our friends and readers for your comments and concerns.  Very much appreciated here at our house.

THIS IS THE ROAD LEADING TO OUR PARK AND THAT TINY WHITE SQUARE ON THE LEFT SIDE DOWN THERE IS OUR PARK’S SIGN AT THE ENTRANCE

GROANER’S CORNER:((  A man wanted to become a monk so he went to the monastery and talked to the abbot (the head monk). The abbot said, “You must take a vow of silence and can only say two words every three years.” The man agreed.  After the first three years, the abbot came to him and said, “What are your two words?”
– “Food cold!” the man replied. The abbot made sure the meals are not cold.  Three more years went by and the abbot came to him and said, “What are your two words?”
– “Robe dirty!” the man exclaimed. The abbot ordered his robe be washed.
Three more years went by and the abbot came to him and said, “What are your two words?”
– “Bed hard!”. The abbot made sure the mattress got re-stuffed.
Three more years went by and the abbot came to him and said, “What are your two words?”
– “I quit!” said the man.
“Well,” the abbot replied, “I’m not surprised – you’ve done nothing but complain since you got here!”

Q. Why are married women heavier than single women?
A. Single women come home, see what's in the fridge and go to bed. Married women come home, see what's in bed and go to the fridge.

  1. A working harbour always has something interesting going on. Maybe you two should plan some little local adventures while you're waiting.

  2. First and most important: I am very sorry that Kelly has to have more procedures but glad the medical folks seem to be paying attention.
Second and making the best of a not great time: This will give us readers a chance to see Bayfield in winter attire. I love your pictures from your day trips and think you will be able to make the winter trips shine spectacularly with your artistic camera compositions.

  4. Get the bird feeders out and get set up for birds in flight again. A cardinal in the snow will be stunning. Maybe a heated birdbath.

  5. You and Kelly have many friends here on your blog to keep up the well wishes and prayers and try to get you through winter. Medical here isn't much faster believe me.

Like the others I bet you will take some really beautiful winter wonderland pictures to share. So yes fill the bird feeders and keep the birds happy.

  6. We can imagine how disappointed you must be having to postpone your winter travels, on top of worrying about Kelly's health. Hope all turns out well.

  7. That Helena G sure is looking pretty new or a new paint job.
Ya gotta do what ya gotta do, at least the Jeep has the aggressive winter/desert tires on and is undercoated.
Hope the scans go well and that you can get away for some southern warm weather this winter.

  9. I, too, am sorry that your plans had to change this winter. Some daily adventures just might pop up over the waiting period. My thoughts and prayers are that the scans go well and also will watch for your take on winter in Bayfield areas.

  11. on the bright side...I am sure if something was dangerously wrong the doctors would have Kelly scheduled in no time. So hopefully they are just being over cautious...
