I LOOK FORWARD AGAIN TO REACHING UP AND TOUCHING THE STARS

DSC_5306

Work is progressing on our shed roof.  There was more rain damage to the roof than previously thought.   However, Mike has the repairs and re-shingling coming down the home stretch.  Our other friend and neighbor Bruce is making a couple of wired ventilation frames for underneath our mobile to be used in the warmer months for circulating air.  We are sure lucky to have a few handy fellas like Mike, Bruce, and Richard in our Park.

A short drive for Pheebs and I this morning.  Goderich and back.  With this heavy humidity upon us again anything I have to get done outside I have to get done early.  Friday afternoon I had to kick on the A/C by 3 p.m.  Noticed a couple neighbors had their air on this morning by 10.  I wasn’t too far behind.  News tonight said these are record breaking temperatures for this area this time of year.  I believe them.

I did manage to haul my 200+ pounds up onto the Motorhome’s roof to clean the 4 solar panels.  Roof itself looked good and the caulking appeared to be in fine shape as well.  Aside from the usual pine needles on the roof all was A-OK.  Just as leaves fall from trees in Autumn so do pine needles and over the next few weeks our roads in here will be covered giving our Park an Oz like ‘yellow brick road’ look.

Despite the day’s sticky humidity I did manage to make a start on cleaning some Motorhome glass but by 12:30 my outside activities were over and it was into the cool air conditioned house with me.

YELLOWING BEAN FIELDS

It has been well over half a year since I last stood under a starry night sky and tonight that is just exactly what I plan to do.  I will load up the Pheebs and we will drive a few miles east or our place to a favorite spot on a dark country road where I can look up with an unobstructed view of the vast heavens stretching above.  With an interest in Astronomy nearly 20 years ago and while living in the old farm house near Fullarton Ontario I was able with the help of my books, maps, and star charts to figure out where the locations of most of the night sky’s constellations were.  Oh how I loved to step out the door at and peer skyward looking for and locating what soon were to become like so many new and old friends.  I still do that most every night while we are in the southwest for the winter but here in the pine forest I can’t see the night sky clearly and it seems I’m too lazy to get in the Jeep and drive the short distance out into the countryside each night.  Well except for tonight that is but with a little bit of luck next month maybe around this time or a bit later we will once again be heading for the great American Southwest where I can stand transfixed under that black velvety canopy of glittering diamonds stretching over me from horizon to horizon, mountain top to mountain top.  The night sky has always felt like an old friend to me and I have always taken great comfort in the feelings of calm it brings me.  I again look forward to reaching up tonight and touching the stars…….

DSC_5265GROANER’S CORNER:((  While enjoying an early morning breakfast in a northern Arizona cafe, four elderly ranchers were discussing everything from cattle, horses, and weather to how things used to be in the "good old days."   Eventually the conversation moved on to their spouses. One gentleman turned to the fellow on his right and asked, "Roy, aren't you and your bride celebrating your 50th wedding anniversary soon?"   "Yup, we sure are," Roy replied.   "Well, are you gonna do anything special to celebrate?" another man asked.   The old gentleman pondered this for a moment, then replied, "For our 25th anniversary, I took the misses to Tucson. For our 50th, I'm thinking about going down there again to pick her up."

  1. One handyman is great, but three of them nearby is a blessing!! Your little bee has a most beautiful home, love that color!! We've had evening clouds since we got back to the desert but I'm hoping to see some starry skies in the next couple weeks!

  2. I love the way some of the things on an RV roof look like stuff that was just left laying around!

Imagine what we would look like with a plastic tag hanging from each ear! I would photograph cattle "au natural" but not with plastic tags.
