FRIDAY RAINS BROUGHT IN SATURDAY’S COOLER TEMPERATURES AND I AM A HAPPY GUY BECAUSE OF THAT:))

It is actually radar which sometimes determines our direction of travel in the morning and so it was today.  Woke up to overcast skies and rain.  A quick check of our real-time Exeter radio site showed rain cells forming up out over the lake and mostly coming ashore north of us up around the Goderich area.  Well the decision was easy and after picking up a coffee and muffin at Bayfield’s Charles Street Market and Bistro we headed south dodging through a few sporadic rain showers as we went.

Friday mornings rain pushed by blustery winds brought in a welcome cold front to our area and temperatures this morning were in the low 60’s.  A T-shirt, long sleeve shirt, and a light jacket was my starting apparel for the day and that was just right fine with me.  Relief from the heat and humidity at last as we wandered around some country roads with Pheebs window down and a touch of heat on in the Jeep at times.  A few rain drops in the Jeep as well but Pheebs did not want me to wind her window up.

Gravel roads were muddy but no matter.  A dirty vehicle comes in a far distant second to soaking up that relaxing country atmosphere every morning.  In a now rare move I did hose the Jeep off when we got home.  Wash it??  No not much point in expending valuable energy in that endeavor when we’ll probably be right back out on the gravel roads again in the morning kicking up more mud and dust.

‘YA SO WHAT’S IT TO YA EH’

Because of the hot weather this summer I haven’t been doing much work on my backyard project but invigorated both mentally and physically by todays refreshingly cooler temperatures I wasn’t long in getting myself re-interested and on the end of my shovel and rake again.  With a cool stiff breeze and a mixture of sun and cloud overhead it was my kind of enjoyable outside day.

It’s a long week-end here in Canada and for us that means sticking pretty close to home.  Not that we venture too far in the summer anyway.  Living where we do near the shores of Lake Huron just outside of Bayfield Ontario roads can get a bit busy with all the in-land week-enders piling into the area.  Bayfield is a popular destination for many folks from far and wide.  Campgrounds and RV Parks are full to overflowing so we just kind of hang out in our quiet little hidden away slice of serenity here in the pine forest.  We were so lucky to find this place way back in 2002 and this coming October’s Halloween night will mark our 15th year of moving in and living here.  This is the longest period of time I have ever stayed put in one place since the day I was born.   And sticking with statistics it was 24 years ago this week-end I met Kelly and it marks the fact that this is the longest period of time I have ever been with one person since the day I was born also.  Doesn’t say a lot about me of course but it sure says a lot about Kelly:))

GROANER’S CORNER:(( Jim and Mary were both patients in a Mental Hospital. One day while they were walking past the hospital swimming pool, Jim suddenly jumped into the deep end. He sank to the bottom & stayed there. Mary promptly jumped in to save him. She swam to the bottom and pulled Jim out.  When the medical director became aware of Mary's heroic act he immediately ordered her to be discharged from the hospital, as he now considered her to be mentally stable.  When he went to tell Mary the news he said: "Mary, I have good news and bad news. The good news is you're being discharged because since you were able to jump in and save the life of another patient, I think you've regained your senses. The bad news is, Jim, the patient you saved, hung himself with his bathrobe belt in the bathroom. I am so sorry, but he's dead."  Mary replied: "He didn't hang himself, I hung him up there to dry."

A tourist is traveling with a guide through one of the thickest jungles in South America, when he comes across an ancient Mayan temple. The tourist is entranced by the temple, and asks the guide for details. To this, the guide states that archaeologists are carrying out excavations, and still finding great treasures. The tourist then queries how old the temple is.  "This temple is 1503 years old", replies the guide.
Impressed at this accurate dating, he inquires as to how he gave this precise figure.  "Easy", replies the guide, "the archaeologists said the temple was 1500 years old, and that was three years ago"

  1. Loved the photos tonight. Liked your comment on "in-land weekenders." Living high in the mountains, our area is a weekend destination for many tourist. Locals here call them the "flatlanders" since they come from the flat land below up to our mountains.

  2. These cooler temperatures sure are nice. Here, driving into town on Friday evening or Monday evening of a holiday weekend is almost impossible because of all the city folk racing up the highway!
