WITH WINDS ROARING IN THE TREE TOPS PHEEBS AND I HAD OURSELVES A QUIET MORNING WALK IN THE FOREST

DSC_0032

With a strong southerly wind blowing out of the south for a second day in a row we had an absolutely beautiful morning before the heat later rolled in.  Thank heavens for the gusting winds which were so strong they kept blowing my hat off.  When we were driving in a westerly direction with the windows down I had to hang onto Pheebs and the steering wheel or those southerly crosswinds would have blown us right out the passenger side window.

Cold air and wind are not a good thing but warm air and wind can make a morning like this morning so perfect in every way.  Hot air and wind can be Okay but can also make one feel like one is inside a blast furnace.  Not so good.

Pheebs and I headed on over to our favorite spot in the Hullett Marsh, parked the Jeep and headed off down a marked forest trail.  With winds roaring in the tree tops above we thoroughly enjoyed our morning walk along the twisting and sometimes swampy forest pathway.  There was just enough of a breeze through the trees to keep the bugs on their knees and we never once had to slap or swat at anything.  I saw flying insects but they stayed low to the ground.

THAT RED TRIANGLE ON THE TREE IS A TRAIL MARKER HELPING HIKERS TO FIND AND REMAIN ON THE TRAIL AHEAD

IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY YOU CAN SEE TWO MORE MARKERS AHEAD ON THE TRAIL

I’M CONFUSED DAD HOW DO WE KNOW WHEN TO TURN LEFT OR RIGHT ON THE TRAIL

DSC_0009

WELL PHEEBS WHEN ONE SEES TWO MARKERS ON A TREE THE TOP ONE IS EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT OF THE BOTTOM MARKER AND POINTS IN THE DIRECTION OF THE TURN…IN THE PHOTO ABOVE THE TRAIL TAKES A TURN TO THE LEFT AND IN THE PHOTO BELOW THE TRAIL TURNS TO THE RIGHT

IN THIS PHOTO 3 MARKERS ARE VISIBLE ON 3 SEPARATE TREES

I THINK WE’RE GOING TO END UP WITH SOME MUDDY PAWS IN THE JEEP

LEADING THE WAY ACROSS A  WOODEN BRIDGE OVER A SMALL CREEK

Spring is a time of many lovely smells with so many blossoms in the air and this morning was no exception as we wandered among sweet smelling lilacs, cherry, and apple blossom trees.  The aroma carried by the wind was everywhere and it felt like magic in the air as we made our way along.  No hurry to go or be anywhere so we poked along getting both paws and shoes muddy along the way.  By 10 o’clock though I was aware of the heat building so we moseyed ourselves on back to the Jeep.

THE AMAZING LY SWEET AROMA HERE BESIDE THE LILAC BUSH ON THE LEFT AND THE APPLE TREE ON THE RIGHT WAS A TOTAL DELIGHT

I BELIEVE THOSE TO BE CHERRY BLOSSOMS ABOVE AND APPLE BLOSSOMS BELOW

Took our time heading home and noticed more farmers out working their fields.  With these strong southerly winds upon us at the moment open fields are drying out quickly and even some of the gravel country roads are already very dusty.

All trees, plants and shrubs are now mostly leafed out as we close in one of the prettiest months of the year.  June is the month between the colds and cools of winter and Spring and the month before hot and dry July and August days begin.  In my opinion June is when flower beds, forests, the whole country side, and gardens are at their prime natural best here in our neck of the woods in southern Ontario.

FOR PHEEBS AND I THIS IS OUR FAVORITE ‘GO-TO’ SPOT IN THE HULLETT MARSH

WINDS WERE REALLY RIPPLING UP THE WATER AND I HAD TO HANG ONTO MY HAT WHILE TAKING THESE PHOTOS

I did spend the afternoon inside enjoying our artificially produced cooler air but weather forecasters are calling for cooler air to roll back into our neighborhood so I’m very much looking forward to that and getting back outside in the afternoons again to continue with my yard projects.

OUR ‘RED BUD’ TREE IS DOING VERY WELL THIS YEAR AND HAS THE MOST BLOSSOMS WE HAVE EVER SEEN ON IT

- So it's a wrong number?" Sorry
- No sir, Google bought it.
- OK. Take my order please
- Well sir, you want the usual?"
- The usual? You know me?
- According to our caller ID data sheet, in the last 12 times, you ordered pizza with cheese, sausage and a thick crust.
- OK! This is it ...
- May I suggest to you this time ricotta, arugula with dry tomato.?
- What? I hate vegetables.
- Your cholesterol is not good, sir."
- How do you know?
- We crossed the number of your fixed phone line with your name, through the subscribers guide. We have the result of your blood tests for the last 7 years.
- Okay, but I do not want this pizza!,I already take medicine.
-"Excuse me, but you have not taken the medicine regularly, from our commercial database, 4 months ago, you only purchased a box with 30 cholesterol tablets at the Drugsale Network”.
- I bought more from another drugstore.

  1. It was good day here for a few walkabouts and reading in the shade with the wind keeping us cool. But yes it will cool down for the next few day and you will enjoy that much more.

  2. Looks like a great walk in the woods, and that wind would have made a big diffeence! I didn't realize you had a Redbud, one of my favourite. They grow but never bloom up here. Like you, I'm looking forward to a little less heat the next few days! The leaves are just barely started unfolding here.

  4. Looks beautiful there, still brown grass, sprouting leaves and no blooms here. The Groaner might be close to the truth now. Enjoyed the pics.

  6. Not being a hiker, am wondering if trail markers like those above are used elsewhere... They are a good idea. We have lots of hikers in the mountain forests here in Oregon and people are always getting lost. Many are not found in time. The markers don't look like they hurt the trees.
