GLAD WE HAD LAUNDRY TO DO TODAY…..SURE BEATS THAT RELAXING STUFF…..OH REALLY!!

A FEW PHOTOS FROM TUESDAY NIGHT

QUARTER MOON AND PLANET VENUS

Tuesday was a day of relaxation.  A day for me to stop and take stock of where we are in the grand scheme of things, to consider future travel plans, our summers in Bayfield, where and what are our priorities and now that we are back on the road RVing the winter months again just how the heck are we doing anyway.  Some easily answered questions while others give me cause to stop and ponder.

Nice scenic morning walk under clear blue sunny skies with a cool breeze from the west.  That breeze was very welcome later as our temps soared up into the low 70’s which for me was about perfect.  We have been reveling in the desert’s majestic scenery and ear ringing silence.

Laundry had built up to epic proportions again so it was off into Borrego Springs we went.  Hadn’t been to the ‘Red Star Laundry’ before and happy to report it’s a nice clean little laundromat at the west end of Borrego’s main street on the south side.  The laundromat is actually a part of the Palm Canyon Hotel & RV Resort and I was really impressed with this whole complex.  I intend to go back there to take some photos of the Westernesque buildings and accompanying RV Park facilities.  Not too often I get excited about an RV Park but I did like the looks of this one and judging from what I saw I would recommend it.  By the looks of the high end coaches in there it could be a little ritzy for we local yokel Bayfield Bums.

While waiting for laundry to dry we popped down the street to Calicos for a couple egg pockets and coffee.  A quick swing through the Frugal Coyote Thrift Store netted us a quality Revere Ware Drip-O-Lator Coffee Drip Stovetop Stainless Steel 8 Cup Percolator for $10 and another Junior Elephant belt for me.

THIS IS AN EGG POCKET…..PASTRY WITH EGG, BACON, AND CHEESE INSIDE

I purposely had it in my mind Tuesday to keep my photos down to a dull roar and ended up not taking any photos at all except for a few late Tuesday night.  My problem is I see so many interestingly beautiful things around me wherever I go every day and I just get myself a little too camera crazy.  Even after all these years.  I guess there must be a long lost photo journalist type person in me somewhere trying to squeak itself out at every opportunity which for the past 10 years seems to be almost daily.

I think manufacturers make RV’s way too comfortable these days and if they don’t make them comfortable enough we buyers see to it that they are as comfortable as we can make em.  Well especially we older folks needing more and more comfort as we go along it seems.  For example looking out my window I see it is a beautiful day and yet here I sit tipped back in my comfy squooshy leather recliner.  A warm sun comes in through a side window alighting on my left shoulder making me sleepy while relaxing ambient music floats through my mind with long soft sinewy fingers lightly touching upon memorable moments and reflections of long ago treasured memories.  Laptop open on a table to my right with more nostalgia and endless info to no end at my finger tips.  Doggy sound asleep on our her couch and Kelly reading a favorite book in her favorite Horton chair.  Oh and did I mention the refrigerator is just 3 steps away……..:))

DESERT NIGHTS ARE JUST THE BEST

Looking ahead to Borrego’s weather Kelly says we might have some 80 degree days headed our way.  ‘OMG’, is it time to head further north for cooler weather already.  Nawwww, down here we don’t have to head north yet we just have to head up.  Altitude I mean.  Cooler weather always lurks in higher altitudes.  Of course I’m getting way ahead of myself again so maybe I had better lay down, stay very still and relax some more.  That is how people relax, isn’t it??

There seems to be a very thin line between relaxation and boredom.  Always has been for me and in my case true relaxation is rare unless something has traumatically stretched me out to where I am totally drained either physically or mentally.  I waffle as if lost in a fog never knowing if I am truly relaxing or just trying to outlast my recent spate of boredom.  Every once in a long while though I do seem to have a truly genuine relaxing day but for the most part I am better off challenged each day with some kind of something to do.  Sit and read day after day? Nope!!  How about flopped in front of TV for hours?  Nope!!  Computer games, idly surfing the web?  Nope!!  Going into town this morning to do laundry?  Yes:))  Why?  Something to do.

GROANER’S CORNER:(( Finding one of her students making faces at others on the playground, Ms. Smith stopped to gently reprove the child.  Smiling sweetly, the Sunday school teacher said, "Johnny, when I was a child, I was told if that I made ugly faces, it would freeze and I would stay like that."  Johnny looked up and replied, "Well, Ms Smith, you can't say you weren't warned."

A drunk driver is stopped for heading the wrong way on a one-way street.  The police officer asked the driver, "Didn't you see the arrows?"
The drunk responds, "Arrows? I didn’t even see the Indians."

  1. Love the night pictures but my Eyes won't focus on the Dipper. Glad you found your peaceful place.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

  2. I have a Revere coffee pot that is similar, but electric. The bottom is for the water, then it goes through the coffee in the top, and collects in a middle reservoir. I'm going to dig it out and try it, haven't used it in 30 years. Thanks for reminding me.

  7. Based on your first paragraph I'd say that wasn't so much relaxing as heavy duty thinking! Beautiful night shots.

  9. Al your night shots were fantastic. Enjoyed every one. We are makiking coffee in 1950's Wearever
made in Canada coffee pot. Got it on e-bay. So excited because I can use it in our trailer this summer instead of instant. So simple! Boil water in the pot, coffee in middle, pour the boiling water in the smaller top container, drips through....it will serve as kettle, coffee pot & teapot in our small 15 foot Taylor Coach, also made in Canada. We hope to take it to the Southwest next year

  10. Sometimes ( actually,MANY times), I just sit outside and revel in the wildlife and views,no matter where we are...I am having trouble the past 2 years with severe anxiety and panic attacks...But I have NEVER had one when we were "on the road"...This tells me that I am more peaceful away from our house and on the move in our Hiker..I sure do miss it this year.

  11. Al, I truly LOVE your night photos. I need to get back and do that again...it's probably been 10 years since I've taken any night photos!

We, too, have our "errand" days. Wednesday seems to be one of them. Otherwise, we just rest and SIT (we don't have recliners)!!!!!

Take care. We may drive over to Joshua Tree this afternoon and hike to Barker Dam.

  12. Great night shots! I gotta learn how to do that :) Your shout of the moon and Venus also captured Mars (upper right of the moon). Under the previous owners Palm Canyon RV was pretty bad, I'll not go back. For upscale try The Springs or for a more local atmosphere we like Borrego Holiday Home. Lots of trails to explore in the Jeep, looking forward to what you discover.

    1. Don't know what Palm Canyon RV looked like before but it's as neat as pin now. Very well maintained with everything up to snuff by the looks of it. I hope to slip around that way and grab myself a few photos. I wrote up and took some photos in the Springs years ago and they somehow found my blog and sent an email inviting us to come and stay there. As super nice as it is we the Bayfield Bunch Clampetts would not be comfortable in a high end park like that. Yep lots of Jeep roads in this area and we've logged a fair few bumpy miles on half a bunch of them.

  13. Al, I love your night time photos as they are spectacular. I haven't done much with night photos, but after seeing yours I might have to work on learning some of those techniques. By the way that was a really upscale laundry mat.

  15. Beautiful night photos, Al. I've sat right on that bench at the laundromat a number of times. It is a nice place and I'm sure I have photos of the whole area in my archives.

I know how you feel. Kind of hard to "relax and do nothing" when there is so much to see and do in this area. There are pictures waiting to be took and time is a wastin'!
