THIS TERRIBLE NON STOP COLD BEATING RAIN HAS TAKEN A TOLL ON US:(((((((

DSC_0018-001

The rain has basically not stopped since starting early Thursday morning.  Heavy at times with the rain front seemingly stalled over top us.  We are parked on grass and by Thursday evening ‘getting stuck’ began to become a worrisome concern.DSC_0025DSC_0026

LESLIE TOOK THIS PHOTO AND IT’S ONE OF THE FEW PICS OF ME THAT I ACTUALLY LIKE.  FOR ME IT SUMS UP IN ONE PHOTO WHO I AM AND HOW I SEE MYSELF Most of tonight’s photos were taken Wednesday when we had our last nice day and they were taken around Kelly’s Mom’s house especially in the back yard.  It’s a deep treed lot with a small creek at the far end.  Walking around back there with Pheebs I noticed a lot of mushrooms growing. As any RV’er knows it’s quite a clattering racket on the roof with rain pounding down on it.  It’s loud enough inside to make one have to crank up radio, stereo, and TV volumes.  Nice and comfy cozy but after awhile all that comfy cozy stuff begins to wear a little thin.  Needless to say we are very much looking forward to getting out of this nasty bit of bad weather we are stuck in.DSC_0023

As readers know I am not a phone person and don’t expect to ever be one.  Always thought having a camera in a cell phone was a great idea but the quality of the photos never interested me much and i never really paid any attention to them.  Well that is until Kelly got her new Blackberry a month or so ago.  I have been amazed and impressed with the quality of photos she has been taking with it.  At Hurd Orchards Wednesday I was using my Canon point and shoot for darker inside shots and ended up scraping most of them.  There was no comparison between my point and shoot shots and Kelly’s Blackberry photos.  The Blackberry’s colors are right on.  Photos are clear and sharp with exposures being about as close to perfect as one can get.   The camera and technology in that Blackberry is far superior to my older Canon Powershot for sure.   Now how can I get that savvy camera technology into a wafer thin lightweight format without having to have a silly phone attached to it.  Below are some of Kelly’s Blackberry photos from Hurd Orchards.

Below are 4 Hurd photos I had left over from Wednesday and that wraps up all my photos from that day.  Now, unbeknownst to me Kelly sent Hurd Orchards a link to my Thursday night post and we received a nice response this morning.  I saw right away I had Aimee’s name spelled wrong and it should have read Amy. I have no idea where I pulled that other spelling from.  I’m tellin ya folks it’s not easy being me.  Oh and remember the photo of Susan Hurd I had in Thursdays post.  Commenter QUILTINGISBLISSFUL said in part, “wonderful photos--but there is one photo that I had to go back to and re-see and that is the one with Susan holding a marker”…..  Well Di I can tell you why she is holding that marker.  While pointing out the many varieties of apples near the door a pick-up truck rolled in and some farm workers hopped out and carried in more bushels of apples.  Some of those apples were a new breed and with her marker Susan wrote the names of each bushel on a small piece of white paper then placed those apple names on the correct bushels:))

MY LAST HURD ORCHARD PHOTO

Becky and Norm flew in from Florida this morning landing in Rochester about 11:20.  From there it was straight here to Kelly’s Mom’s house to drop their luggage then the whole eating gang saddled up again and rode off to another big food feed round-up.  Well except for Kelly’s Mom who wasn’t feeling well.  By the way it was Gene who paid for everybody’s great day at Hurd Orchards Thursday.  Now how’s that for nice.DSC_0002

Luckily the Bad Apple Bistro was only a few blocks away but no matter we all got cold and wet getting in and out of cars in the non stop drenching rain.  Enjoyed my fish ‘n’ chips.  What absolutely miserable weather this has been these past couple days.  Cold, wet, and damp.  Reminds me of November which in my books is the very much most miserable month of the year up here in this climate zone.

Nice to see Becky and Norm again and some long time readers may remember them when we all met in New Mexico’s ‘Truth or Consequences’ a bunch of years ago.  They were full-timing in their Damon Challenger Motorhome at that time and working at T&C’s Hot Springs Resort for awhile.  They now live in Largo Florida. Today was Norm’s 80th birthday and they brought him out a small molton chocolate cake complete with a single candle on top.  Maybe they will give you 2 candles on your second 80th Norm:))thumbnail_IMG_20161021_1352225

I’m a little concerned about our early morning departure Saturday morning.  We are parked on grass here and with all this rain saturating the ground it probably wouldn’t take much for us to dig into the soft lawn leaving us stuck in the mud.  Toyed with the idea of maybe trying to move the rig over onto the paved driveway but I think we’ll just wait and take our chances in the dark cold wet morning.  I haven’t slept well the last 2 nights, been eating way too much and with this constant non stop rain I’ve had no exercise and my legs are aching.  Just not feeling myself tonight. Kelly has been very tired as well so we’ll see how far we get Saturday.  Really looking forward to some real live warm sunny weather.

DSC_0016-001

Assuming we don’t get stuck in the mud Saturday morning I have no idea where we will end up Saturday night.  Think we’ll see if we can make our way down to Harrisburg Pennsylvania and maybe climb aboard 81 for awhile and see how it goes.

THIS SMALL CREEK RUNS THROUGH BEHIND KELLY’S MOM’S HOUSE

GROANER’S CORNER:(( Each evening bird-lover Tom stood in his backyard, hooting like an owl. One night, an owl called back to him. For a year, the man and his feathered friend hooted back and forth. He even kept a log of the "conversation."
Just as he thought he was on the verge of a breakthrough in interspecies communication, his wife had a chat with her next-door neighbor.
"My husband spends his nights... calling out to owls," she said. "That's odd," the neighbor replied. "So does my husband."

  1. You always wear yourselves out on the way down. Take it easy and get a day of rest. You both will feel better.

  2. You will pass thru our neck of the woods tomorrow. After Williamsport PA, you will eventually come to Lewisburg PA on route 15. If you need a break there, look for the Sheetz gas station on the right. Behind it is a Walmart that is RV friendly. A stones throw away is The Country Cupboard Restaurant and Store at 101 Hafer Road, Lewisburg PA 17837 which is also RV friendly. We love their buffet! It's another hour or so from there to Harrisburg. When we head south, we take 81 South to Charlotte NC. We are heading to western PA in the morning for our grandaughter's college soccer game or we would of enjoyed meeting up with you guys. Have a great trip to see your Aunt Jean! Love your blog!

  3. Have you thought about an inexpensive pair of noise cancelling headphones? I have a pair I used once while cutting the lawn. I was amazed how well they did cancelling out the sound of the engine, but I felt it was unsafe.
Al, I like that picture of you behind the wheel of the EEE just before leaving Bayfield. Your mind was on one thing, getting out of Dodge.

  4. Time to get outta dodge, same here but we gonna hang out till; Monday. Hope ya don't get stuck and are on the road in good time. Safe travels.

  6. Looking at the radar the rain stayed south of us most of today, unlike the forecast, but I can understand how it was stuck over you. Sorry about that. Long cold days of rain at this time of year are a pain, I'd rather have snow! That must have been a wonderful yard for akelly to grow up with.

  7. I have never seen anything like those black mushrooms. Great find, and great photos!

  8. That owl joke was FUNNY! Kelly - you sure grew up in a beautiful place, lucky girl. The photos are gorgeous, and I loved the mushrooms, many of which I've never seen.

So, drive slow, drive safe, have fun and take your time. We're saving the warm weather for you for at least a month after you get here, don't worry. It should be just about perfect when you arrive. :)

  9. The mushroom pics are really lovely - that black one is so unique! I'm always impressed by the quality of some cell phone cameras. I also see that a few advertise the camera over the phone! It's delightful to see you in so many photos here. I agree that Leslie really captured the "essence of Al" in her photo.

  11. That photo looks like the real you. I know it is important to visit family, but I bet you three will be glad to be on the road again. Hope you leave the rain behind very soon.

  12. Come to Apalachicola Florida if you want beautiful weather! 50's at night and low 80's to mid 70 days and abundant sunshine! Chuck and I would love to show you around! Grin, I know we are not anywhere near your destination, but I just wanted to send you some sunny weather!

  13. I also loved the black mushroom--had not seen one like that one before--my second favorite one is the tree trunk with the single vine of yellow leaves growing up it--love tree photos and my 3rd one is the pink roses--all are great though--sure hope you got out of the yard and well on your way by now--rest tonight--
    love and laughter, di

  15. Al;
I really enjoy reading your blog. My wife and I really enjoy your thoughts and comments. Maybe one of these days we can lock an eyeball and shake a hand if we ever get close enough, or you come to So.Cal. In the past couple of months I was following the sale of your house in AZ. I guess the sale fell through. Do you plan on going to your house there in AZ?
I really like the pictures that you posted. Have a safe trip. I hope that you send a lot of that rain our way we need it.

  16. Must have been a great place to grow up, run around the woods, and play in the creek. Kelly got some really good phone shots. My phone surprises me too, when I remember to use it. The blackening mushroom is a delicious edible Shaggy Mane, except when it "inks" out too late to bother. Hope you can get out of the rain, and the driveway. In the 80s today in Kirkland.
