THE TRANSITION FROM MILLENICOM TO VERIZON WENT SMOOTHLY THIS MORNING

SOUTH OF CONGRESS IS WICKENBURG’S VULTURE PEAK ON THE HORIZON

Thank you to readers for your concern, good wishes, & suggestions for Kelly’s health.  She did feel better this morning & actually made 2 trips to the library & on one of those trips took Pheebs in for a $5 nail trim.  We’re just taking things one day at a time right now.

WE SURE DO LOVE OUR DESERT PLAYGROUND

Had we forgot about it being Halloween we were certainly reminded of it while driving out to our walking point in the desert this morning.  Bobby (Boris) Pickett came on the radio singing…NoteTHE MONSTER MASHNote. Groovy:))

Unlike the problems Paul & Marti Dahl from RV SANITY had our transition from Millenicom back to our previous service provider Verizon went smoothly.  Kelly had less than a 10 minute wait before Verizon personnel answered her call.  Took about 20 minutes with questions & answers going back & forth both ways.  Minutes after Kelly hung up the phone we were all set up with a new Verizon account, all was well & it was internet as usual.  With the multitude of problems we & just about everybody else seem to continually have with phone companies, internet providers, electric bills, insurance companies, garages, etc. etc. & etc. it is always a very welcome & appreciated ray of sunshine to have something go smoothly with no complications or screw ups for a change.  It was our turn to have a lucky roll of the dice.  Nice:))

AM GUESSING THIS LITTLE FELLOW IN OUR BACK YARD AS A HORNED LIZARD

RV West magazine says Arizona RV Parks are reporting the arrival of NORTHERN SNOW BIRDS two to four weeks earlier this year.  Says the Farmers Almanac prediction of a cold hard winter could be driving the Birders south earlier than usual.

More helicopters west bound over the Date Creek Mountains today so I took a compass reading & estimated their direction of travel as west/northwest.  Hauled out my Atlas & guestimated a straight line of travel & that took them in the direction of Lake Havasu & beyond into California’s Mojave Desert area & Death Valley.  Drawing a line to the east/south east from their direction of travel I could not see any cities for hundreds of miles where these choppers might have departed from.  Figured with the amount of fuel those things burn they would fly the shortest route possible between points A & B so would not likely be headed for the Chocolate Mountains east of Niland Ca. or the Barry M. Goldwater range northwest of Ajo Arizona.

Noticed this morning we have a new Blog Follower.  We welcome MYSTIC2AWESOME to the workings of our inner lives here at the Bayfield Bunch.   Things are a bit slow at the moment but hope you stick around until we can get the big RV wheels rolling again & head ourselves off on another journey somewhere soon.

AND THIS SAGUARO CACTUS IS RIGHT IN OUR FRONT YARD:))

A nice drop in temperatures headed our way accompanied by a 50% chance of rain this week-end.  A welcome change as temperatures are predicted to drop into the low 70’s & high 60’s.  A welcome break from upper 80’s & low 90’s.  May only last a couple days before returning to mid 80’s but we’ll sure be glad for a couple cooler days:))

LOOKING EAST TO THE SOUTHERN END OF THE WEAVER MOUNTAINS

GROANER’S CORNER:((  "This house," said the real estate salesman, "has both its good points and its bad points. To show you I'm honest, I'm going to tell you about both. The disadvantages are that there is a chemical plant one block south and a slaughterhouse a block north."  "What are the advantages?" inquired the prospective buyer.  "The advantage is that you can always tell which direction the wind is blowing from."

A Sunday School teacher was telling the story of the Good Samaritan to her class of 4 & 5 year-olds. She was making it as vivid as possible to keep the children interested in her tale.  At one point, she asked the class, "If you saw a person lying on the roadside all wounded and bleeding, what would you do?"  A thoughtful little girl broke the hushed silence, "I think I'd throw up."

  1. Al, I grew up in West Texas and the little guy is a Horned Lizard we always called them Horned Toads. We don't have them anymore in my part of the country because of fire ants. Enjoyed the memory.

  2. So...Your sharing about the many Helicopters, and watching PBS about possible Solar flares coming our Earthly way has me worried....Oh, but I am a bit of a conspiracy theory freak anyway! LOL!

So glad to hear Kelly is feeling better, as always your pictures are great!

  3. Here's hoping some of your good luck with the Millenicom transition rubs off on your readers. I need to make the call to Verizon this next week.

  4. Glad Kelly is feeling a bit better.
They are calling for rain here too, but I like the heat so I am not too happy about that.

  8. Phoenix news on Wednesday night said a formation of 9 helicopters stopped at Scottsdale Airpark on a training mission. I think they said they were from Dallas area. I think they were Black Hawk helicopters. I can't find any info to verify.

  10. I just love that header photo. Gorgeous place!

Glad your experience with Verizon was a great one. Seems not everyone is having the great service that you two received.

So glad Kelly is feeling better and pray she continues to improve.

  11. Your 'Groaner' reminds me of a very brief conversation I had with our eldest daughter when she was looking to buy a place. I said, as we had just left the GO station off Fairview street, "Look, these places look nice", (there were some brand new condos that had gone up) to which she replied, "One word, 'Fearmans'!" which is the older term for what is now Maple Leaf Foods, a rendering plant for pork. And yes, you can definitely tell which way the wind is blowing. Bleah!

  12. Given the direction of flight of your helos I'd say that they were headed for the National Training Center at Ft. Irwin, NE of Barstow.

We live in a Military Operations Area and had a lot of military air activity while we were building the house, but now we have very little. We sure could use the entertainment. ;)

  13. Your little horned toad brought back great childhood memories for me as well. Had a lovely rain last night - hope it makes its way to your place today!

  14. I'm glad that Kelly is on the mend. I had Verizon service for years and it was excellent - never had any problems dealing with their reps and getting problems solved. The last couple of years it all went downhill for me and I finally dropped them entirely. I think all those companies have service that ebbs and flows.

  15. The next time I have to tangle with Verizon I'm going to need Kelly on speed dial! ;c)

Fire ants (Solenopsis invicta) are sometimes cited as a culprit in the ecology of the horned toad. There is a correlation in parts of Texas where the fire ants appear and the horned toads disappear. However, there seems to be a decline in the numbers of horned lizards in the Panhandle, where fire ants have not appeared.

Cause and effect or effect and look for a cause?
