MADE A DECISION TODAY ON THE 2004 PONTIAC SUNFIRE

DSC_0010

YES IT WAS A RAINY DAY

Turns out we had ourselves a big old wet rainy day going on so not a lot of activity at our house today.  Fred, the 04 Pontiac Sunfire owner called & said the A/C is working fine in the car & if we're still interested in it to come on over.  Kelly wanted to drive it again before we made a final decision so we went over & had a talk with Fred.  Kelly took the car for a drive & yes we will buy the 04 Sunfire.   Now we have to sell our 03 Hyundai Santa Fe.  The Sunfire goes in to the Bayfield Garage Thursday morning for it's safety inspection & the Santa Fe goes in for It's pre-safety inspection Friday morning.  Might be a good chance the Big EEE will be ready for pick-up late Wednesday afternoon after it’s detailing job.  I like when things are happening:))

TALKING TURKEY IN THE DRIVING SHED & FRED’S 36’ FRONT ENGINE DIESEL ALLEGRO MOTORHOME…THIS IS WHERE THE SUNFIRE SPENT IT’S LAST 7 WINTERS

Thought this following recent comment from a reader in our Shout Box was interesting & brought up a good point.  Reader said,  “What made you buy yet another RV? I missed all that. Do 2 houses + a big Class A = a simple life? We're retired and trying to downsize and get rid of 'stuff”. The short answer to the question of why we bought ‘yet another RV’ is simply, our previous 2 RV’s turned out to be too small for our changing comfort levels.  The long answer to that question is 'no it does not = a simple life'.  It's true, life definitely would be simpler if we followed the route our reader has chosen.  Downsizing & getting rid of stuff would for sure make things easier & less stressful.  But is that where we are at??  There is another side to this coin.  Again it is imperative we understand the fact we are all wired differently.  Okay that said here's where we are & how I see it.

I have found over the years it is harder to get excited about things the same way I did when I was younger.  Those excitable years of childhood where just about anything & everything was new & thrilling are long gone.  As years passed & interests changed more things became less excitable.  For me change & unpredictability have become the two new main ingredients in the making of excitement.  In these latter years it has been the RV lifestyle which has been the biggest factor in keeping healthier both mentally & physically for both Kelly & I.

The whole process of attaining ourselves a home base in the South-West in itself was hugely exciting simply because it was mixed with a healthy dose of uncertainty, stress & apprehension.   Yes it was a step in the opposite direction of simplicity alright but for me all the emotions involved are far more interesting & challenging than the alternative.  I feel it is important to always have something to look forward to & especially now in these Senior years.  At least it is for me.  Some folks look forward to a home-style life while others look forward to a combination of traveling & home life.  Still others prefer the lifestyle of full time RVing & that is yet another level of excitement also filled with uncertainty.  We live our lives somewhere between the extremes of a stationary home life & the freedom of mobility full time RV'ers enjoy.  And in my opinion it is more complicated living between those two extremes as Snow Birds simply because of the additional assets one is required to have.  But it is our preference, our choice of lifestyle & a level of excitement I/we prefer.

For a restless soul like mine change is the key.  And change is definitely more complicated than same-same simplicity.  But as I approach my 70th birthday it is in change where I can still find the ever elusive excitement factor.  Yes owning a home in Arizona as well as Bayfield Ontario makes for more complications alright.  Throw a Motorhome in plus a couple vehicles & yes the stress factor goes up & some days it goes waaaay up.  But so do the rewards.  Over the past 8 years we have always seemed to be in some kind of transition.  Lots of changes going on, always something to look forward to, somewhere to go, something different to do.  Buying this & selling that.  Trading in older for newer & newer for older.  It is an energizing formula that has worked for Kelly & I ever since the day we met.  Our minds have always been together on often doing & thinking things different from the norm.

The time will come soon enough for us when our days of excitement will change & we will be forced into another phase of our lives with different priorities but we're not there yet.  Downsizing & simplicity are not yet a voluntary option for us & until the day comes when they are we will continue to pursue that ever elusive sense of excitement & challenge that has been instrumental in landing us where we are today………………….

GROANER'S CORNER:((    Upon receiving an award, Jack Benny once remarked, "I really don't deserve this, but I have arthritis and I don't deserve that either."

Two paramedics were dispatched to check on a 92-year-old man who had become disoriented. They decided to take him to the hospital for evaluation.  En route, with siren going, they questioned the man to determine his level of awareness. Leaning close, one asked, "Sir, do you know what we're doing right now?"  The old man slowly looked up at him, then gazed out the ambulance window.  "Oh," he replied, "I'd say about 50, maybe 55."

  2. You said it all when you said it has always worked for Kelly and you. Who else does it have to work for? The Pheebs doesn't complain. I hope you can keep traveling and living in your houses east and west, and enjoying life as long as you can. And doing it your way.

  4. The Sunfire is really nice. You've found what works for you, when it doesn't work you'll move on. That's a whole lot of yard work!

We will stick with this Snow Bird life for a few more years and then re access.

  7. In many ways you inspire me to take the path I choose. Thanks to blogging I have learned from many who have done things their way, and by taking from all, hope I can drive a new path. We have yet to find our way, and will probably chane it when we do. We are not boondockers, but that doesn't make us bad RVers. Weon't workcamp, but might volunteer some day. Who knows.LIFE IS SHORT, WE ARE TRYING TO LIVE EVERY DAY WITH ADVENTURE.
