LOOKING BACK

DSC_1207

Just one of those cool cloudy routine stay at home days with not much going on.  Clouds did begin to clear mid afternoon & I was able to charge my batteries enough to walk around the house a couple times.

CHECKING OUT OUR NEW ‘ROLLER FEEDER’

With not a lot to write about I looked back in my blog to see what we were doing a year ago at this time & I see we had just returned from Borrego Springs.  A week ago yesterday Kelly & I climbed Ghost Mountain.  I generally like make an annual trek up to the old Marshall South homestead.

THE DESERT IS BEGINNING TO SHOW SOME COLOR

Our trip to Borrego Springs last year was a short one for several reasons.  It was our first venture out in our recently acquired 2012 Sunseeker Class C.  Only took us a couple boondocking days to realize we had made a mistake & it was just simply too small for us.  Despite getting a super deal on it In Quartzsite we just couldn’t make the smaller size work for us.  We poured over ideas to take the horseshoe dinette out but in the end just had to accept the fact we were not going to get accustomed to the small bathroom or the corner bed.  Best driving & handling RV we’ve ever had but if one’s living quarters are not satisfactory nothing else matters.  With a big wind storm headed into the Anza-Borrego area we decided there was no point in just ‘toughing it out’ for the sheer sake of just ‘toughing it out’.  We’ve toughed out enough big winds east of Borrego over the years to know we didn’t need to do that again so we made the decision to make a quick dash for home one year ago today.

We were once again lucky enough with the Sunseeker to get a great trade in deal about 6 weeks later back in Canada when we traded it in on our larger 26’ Winnebago Class C.  Our Winnie is a big improvement over the smaller Sunseeker but we still have not adjusted to the smaller space like we thought we would.  No doubt about it, we really miss the roominess of a Class A.  Will we sell the Winnie or trade it in for another A??  Who knows, our plans are always fluid & we’re the type of people who believe if something isn’t working out the way you like it…….change it!!

Are you thinking of replacing that carpet in your RV?  Maybe it’s just time for a change & you want to put some different tile or laminate flooring in.  PETER is helping JIMBO with that very job right now & Peter has some experienced helpful tips for you do-it-yourselfer folks.  My idea of installing a new floor is to throw a few Walmart scatter mats down:))

GROANER’S CORNER:(( Q: Who has the right of way when four cars approach a four-way stop at the same time?
A: The pick-up truck with the gun rack and the bumper sticker saying, "Guns don't kill people. I do."

  1. I just love your flags on the back of your former Damon!

  2. You seem to be doing a lot more local travel this year, which is nice. Having the house in Congress is a brilliant idea so that you could come "home" and unwind from your explorations.

  3. Hi Al and Kelly

I got some help from Randy today and passed on your Howdy to him. He still remembers when he met you in Canada. Howdy back.
They are staying here and have family visiting.

Perhaps the old RV will make it up to Congress next Winter, via California. Not doing That big city south of you again.

  4. Absolutely with you on if something isn't right fix it. Have it your way if you possibly can and nobody gets hurt. :-) Life is short, be happy!

  6. You're not alone, Al. I'm on my fourth RV and I'm always on the lookout for number 5.

It's an incurable disease, I know. (At least that's my story and I'm sticking to it!) ;c)

  7. I can well understand. A few months ago traded our 2009 Montana fiver for a 2014 Cedar Creek. After four years on road could not take RV size fridge anymore. Also love the self leveling jacks. This is our 4th RV. Is it the last? Hard to say, isn't it.

  8. One of our friends said to us, "you change RV's more often than people change their underwear." But we subscribe to your statement, "if something isn't working out the way you like it…….change it!!"

  9. hey there, your groaners corner gun rack joke made me wonder....... Im new to your blog, so you may have talked about this before, but have you ever come across any kind of trouble where you felt having a gun around might be a nice addition? Or have you heard any stories from other RV'rs who have?

  10. I am torn by the carpet decision. It seems every RV I have ever looked at has similiar ugly gray carpet. It is almost impossible to get it clean. I have also covered it with Walmart rugs, and am almost in the mood to splurge on a new set. The ones I have are only a few months old, but could be put to use outside. Costco had some really pretty runners the last time I was there.

One of the top things on my list after the house closes is to get an estimate on new carpeting. Laminate doesn't apeal to me very much.

  12. I think your old Sunseeker is like mine. Mine is older of course, a 2006, and is 24 feet, but I think that is from bumper to bumper. I measured it once, and I think the 24' was to the back ladder. Anyway, I LOVE mine, as you know, but I'd sure never want to live in it with another person. Just not enough room. I don't have a down bed, though, so all my interior is livable space. I didn't want to waste any of that tiny space on a bed, so I'm sleeping in the cab-over bunk.

I'm thinking if I ever DO upsize, I might look at the smaller Class A rigs. Like 26 or 28 feet, if they make them that small. My next one, if there is a next one, will probably have a down bed and I'd want more outside storage. But for now, mine is perfect and I might never want to upsize. I hope not! :)

  13. Then it was a year ago that we met at Anza Borrego State Park. We haven't even made it that far this year.

Go with your heart regarding a class A. You only live once.
