KIND OF A LONG DAY….TIRED

IMG_3619

Every morning I sit in my Ikea chair, laptop on my lap, heater going, & soft music on my Sirius Satellite radio boombox beside me.  A day’s quiet beginning works best for me.  Greatest start to the day though is what I see on my bed.  A little Pheeber dog all curled up with her head on my pillow.  Sometimes she has some big upside down stretches going on, other times she twitches & whimpers as Bunnies chase her through her dreams.  Quite often she will have one of her toys beside her & other times she snorts a wee bit, her nose twitches, & her tail gives a little wiggle.  How truly fortunate I am to have such a great little Pal start each & every one of my day’s off with a little snort, a nose twitch, & a little tail wiggle………………….

We had ourselves a long day & I’m really tired tonight .  Let me just keep it short by saying we were down bombing around in the northwest end of Phoenix for a few hours.  Hit a Target store in Surprise on the way back along with a stop at 5 Guys Burgers.  And I never did find any PJ’s…………

I did watch Jay Leno’s last show a couple night’s ago & for me that ends an era that began many, many, years ago with Johnny Carson.  Rare for me to watch the whole show but I did always enjoy the monologues.  For me both Johnny & Jay’s humor was simple, easy to follow & easy to understand.  Unlike the new breed of late talk show hosts.  NBC turfed Jan Leno for the newer humor so prevalent in situation comedy’s & younger talk show hosts these days.  We one time cutting edge Baby Boomers are the aging Dinosaurs now & as per human trait it is out with the old & in with the new.  I’ve tried watching John Stewart & that other Gilbert Report guy or something like that but they all leave me sitting poker faced.  I just don’t understand their humor.  Jimmy Fallon will be taking over the ‘Tonight Show’ from Jay but again this is another fellow, although talented, I have just never thought of as funny.  I just don’t get the humor or understand the style of these new newer age comedians.  Simply put….I just don’t find them funny.  I was once a ‘Saturday Night Live’ fan but that show left me in the dust a long time ago as well.  And there isn’t one newer single TV situation comedy that grabs or holds my attention for any longer than a few seconds either.  I guess in some areas of my life I am just not changing with the times like I once did.  And maybe that is a good thing in this day & age for this old lumbering Tyrannosaurus Rex…………

GROANER’S CORNER:((  A traffic cop pulled alongside a speeding car on the motorway. Glancing into the car, he was astounded to see that the young lady, who was driving, was knitting.  Realizing that she was oblivious to his flashing lights and siren, the policeman wound down his window, turned on his loudspeaker and yelled, 'PULL OVER!'   'NO', the young lady yelled back, 'IT's A SCARF!'

  1. I'm with you on the newer commedians. How could SNL ever top the 1st two years, and the unbelievable talent they had.

  2. I have exactly the same feeling about Jimmy Fallon. He doesn't do it for me. I much preferred Jay. Also, I don't like Jimmy's band Roots.

  3. Never could stay up for any of the late shows very often but did like both Leno and Letterman. Both down to earth and funny. Hate to see Jay leave.

  4. "He who laughs last . Laughs alone."
Nana liked late night shows, as a visiting grandkid I would hear the laughter upstairs and would end up watching her and Jack Parr Tonight Show having a good laugh about things I didn't understand.
Those days of black and white TV humor included: The Three Stooges, Groucho Marx, Red Skelton, Jackie Gleason, Jack Benny and of course Lucille Ball.
The last Jack Parr show he symbolically entertained to an empty studio.
I guess there is still a lot of humor I don't get but the jokes I do get are the best ones.. I know I always get a laugh from your Groaner's Corner good ones.

  5. Totally agree with you Al about Carson and Leno....Leno never made it to the Carson level, but he was close enough. These others, well, they just don't do it, and since they are not very funny, they normally bring crude lewd and rude humor, or attempt at humor, into the show. Sure wish Leno would have had Carol Burnett on as a real guest instead of just a "show" at the end with others....now that lady was funny, especially with the crew she surrounded herself with. --Dave (GoingRvWay.com)

  6. I told Russ just this morning that I am so happy to get up in the morning now so I can hug and play with my dogs. I love just sitting in my chair and watching them - whether they are just sleeping or wrestling around with one another. I just like seeing them and knowing they are a part of our family.

I've heard it said that we have to change with the times and keep up with the way life is now. To that I say "poppycock!" There is nothing wrong with liking some of the older ways. It's all a matter of taste and liking old comedy or old music is just as valid as enjoying the "new" stuff. If we are going to dismiss everything from the past as irrelevant, then we are going to miss a lot of great history and forget a lot of important lessons. Just my opinion of course ;)

  7. Carson was the last time I watched that show, and that was a while ago. Since then never did even watch Leno.
    Watch very little tv now,
Then next generation is taking over, just like we did in the past.

  8. Yep, I agree too! There will never be another Johnny Carson!

I love watching our pups....what a way to get the day started!

  9. Some folks, maybe most folks would say I am weird, I've never watched an episode of Johnny Carson or Jay Leno, or many of the other shows many people like. Al--you are in AZ and flannel is hard to come by. I needed some flannel to finish a quilt one time and could NOT find any flannel fabric in the Tucson quilt shops. Have you tried online??

  10. Janna has the answer - online. There are plenty of flannel pajamas for men available at L L Bean (free shipping) or Amazon. You could have been wearing a pair if you had ordered when you first started looking in retail shops on February 3rd.
But then again I think you like to shop so buying online would deprive you of that.

  11. Hi Just started following u after seeing a post by a friend, Denise (Sass) Murrin. You folks are livin' the dream I plan to fulfill post-retirement in a few years. On the subject of late night entertainment...loved Johnny Carson; not so much Jay Leno;Big fan of early years of SNL; Jimmy Fallon is Bruce Springsteen fan so that makes him a soul mate for me. See ya Out There!...Highwayman!

  13. Al, we hardly ever watching anything on American TV channels like CBS, ABC, or NBC. Instead, we watch shows on either BBC America, HBO, or Starz. I especially enjoyed The white Queen (historical drama). Once in a while, hubby will connect his laptop to the TV and we watching something from Amazon prime.
Cheryl Ann~~Like you, most TV shows bore us!

  14. I was a TV addict for many years. Then about four years ago the big dish sattelites all shut down and we could no longer get anything. I diswaded Craig from getting a small dish system, because I wanted to go full timing. Well, as you know that has not yet happened, but somewhere along the way I lost all interest in TV. We watch an occasional movie on Netflix, but that's about all. Craig replaced the rear TV with a new one , and has a second new one in the bay for the front. I think it will be a waste of money, but I guess once he gets sattelite he can watch more sports. Each to their own. I just don't want to have it on all of the time anymore.

  16. I really like the layout of your blog. The content is a great read but it's also nice to look at too. I'm a few years away from full time RV/motorcycle life so I'm livin' vicariously through you folks. Thanks!

  17. I will miss Jay Leno... hope he finds something new to fill the gap and entertain folks again.

As for tv, there is one show Steve makes a point to watch "Person of Interest" and one I either watch or record for later "Revenge" ... that's about it.

but early Sunday mornings the old rerun shows on Antenna TV station is "Here Come the Brides" .... my guilty pleasure of watching Bobby Sherman, David Soul and Robert Brown as loggers out in Seattle ... LOL
