WE LEFT THIS MORNING WITH OUR DAMON MOTORHOME & RETURNED THIS AFTERNOON……WITH OUR DAMON MOTORHOME:((

IMG_3411

“OH NO, MOM & DAD JUST TOLD ME WE DIDN’T GET THE NEW RIG”

Well, I guess the phrase, ‘some days you win & some days you lose’ applies to us today.  In the past 20 years, Kelly & I have sure had our share of winning a few but today it just wasn’t to be.

---

I had a feeling all week the deal might just fall through, & it did.  Nothing to do with finances & everything to do with our kinda wild southwest interior paint & décor & the fact we had got rid of all the rig’s uncomfortable furniture years ago etc. etc. (I’m sure some of you already expected that) I may write more about today’s ordeal in the coming days but for now it is what it is. My biggest regret is that we missed out on the super good deal with that particular low mileage & upgraded 2013 Chevy Sunseeker we were after.

---

Off to plan B now.  I have absolutely no idea what plan B is yet but I’m sure we’ll think of something.  We usually do.

NOTHING LIKE A FEW UPSIDE DOWN PHEEBER PICS TO CHEER UP ‘THE BUNCH’

And a big apology to Ivan & Wandering Willy who, coincidentally were in Quartzsite’s McDonald’s this afternoon when Kelly went in to get us a bite to eat & coffee to go.  It was right after our deal fell through & we (especially me) just weren’t in the mood for talking to anyone.  Just wanted to get out of town & go home.  Sorry guys………

---

I may be back with a post tomorrow or I just may keep it simple & relaxingly scratch around outside with my little shovel & rake for a few days & let today’s events just quietly fade away…….10-4.

“OHHHHH,  I JUST CAN’T BELIEVE IT”

GROANER’S CORNER:((   A young minister sitting down to dinner was about to say Grace when he opened the casserole dish that his thrifty bride had prepared from all of the refrigerator leftovers.  "I don't know," he said dubiously, "but it seems to me that I've blessed all this stuff already."

WE COULD END UP HAVING OURSELVES A LONG DAY THURSDAY……..

DSC_8166

SOME OF TODAY’S BIRD PICS ARE A TAD FUZZY BUT HAVE DECIDED TO INCLUDE THEM ANYWAY

The steady rains of a few days ago pointed out to me where the low spots in our crushed stone gravel were.  This morning I was busy with the wheel barrow filling in a few low spots.

My Aunt Jean is coming to Arizona:))))))  It was a tough call for her but she thinks her health has improved to a point where she can make the long journey from Sarasota Florida.  Jean will be flying into Phoenix on February 8th & hopping aboard a Shuttle Bus to bring her to Surprise Arizona.  We will meet her there in the parking lot of the Golden Corral.  Looking forward to some exciting new adventures shortly:))

IVAN is asking, ‘Has anyone lost this dog’.  He has a photo of a little fellow who may have wondered away from somebody’s site in Quartzsite.  Currently being held by the Quartzsite police……the dog that is, not Ivan

TAKE-OFF

Merikay says, “I find planning a next trip goes a long way toward keeping me from getting too depressed”!  I couldn’t agree with Merikay more & I know when all the excitement settles down from our house fun here in Congress, I will once again be restless.  MERIKAY is also now officially retired & deciding on what to do about all her arts & crafts supplies.  Some have already made the trip to the dump but what about all that ‘fake fur in the closet’:))

DSC_8202

What would you pack if you were traveling off to another country & roughing it a bit?  Gaelyn, over at the GEOGYPSY is heading out for a 6 week trip to Africa in a few days & is traveling light.  Check in to see how she is going about figuring what to take & what not to take.  She has had to do some clever thinking here & what about taking a camera tripod?

DSC_8183

These recent rains sure have kick started our grass & weeds to growing. I’m already seeing green grass & weeds sprouting through the crushed gravel I recently put down. Oh no, are we going to have to buy a darn lawn mower now. Surely not in the desert………. say it isn’t so:((

It has been nearly 25 years since I first came across the hauntingly melodic guitar sounds of WILL ACKERMAN & to this day when I hear any piece of his music, I am still immediately drawn to this man’s beautiful guitar styling's. PASSAGE, one of Will Ackerman’s early albums turned out to be my first journey into his music & to this day remains one of my all time favorite albums. Sirius Satellite Radio’s ‘The Spa’ 068 frequently plays Will & anytime I hear his music it brings a calm comforting smile to my face.

A year ago today we were in Slab City California for a few days.  Had a charging problem with our solar system so stopped by Solar Mike’s & he installed a new heavier duty fuse for us.  That solved the problem.  Mike is the fellow who originally installed our solar system back in December of 07 & we highly recommend him & his work.  Darn nice easy going fella too:))  SLAB CITY ONE YEAR AGO TODAY.

OOOOPS, GOT A LITTLE CACTUS STICKER THIS MORNING

And finally, with a bit of luck, we will be off to Quartzsite in the morning with our 33’ Class A Motorhome & returning later in the day with our 23’ Class C Sunseeker…:))

HEY, WATCHA DOIN WITH THAT CAMERA MISTER!!

GROANER’S CORNER:((  Dan was a single guy living at home with his father and working in the family business. When he found out he was going to inherit a fortune when his sickly father died, he decided he needed to find a wife with whom to share his fortune. One evening, at an investment meeting, Dan spotted the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Her natural beauty took his breath away.  "I may look like just an ordinary guy," he said to her, "but in just a few months my father will die and I will inherit $200 million." Impressed, the woman asked for his business card, and three days later she became his Stepmother. Women are so much better at financial planning than men.

COOL DAY WITH SUNNY SKIES

Clear skies this morning but our overnight temps dropped to 36 degrees.  Only 2 degrees warmer than back home in Bayfield Ontario.

JIM & SANDIE are finally rolling out of Quartzsite, but not before a little something important has to be taken care of first.  Be sure to check out, ‘the potty line-up’:((

GROANER’S CORNER:((  I don't think I'll ever have a mother's intuition. A friend left me alone in a restaurant with her 16-month-old kid.  I asked, "What do I do if he cries?"  She said, "Give him some vegetables."  It turns out that Jalapenos are not his favorite vegetable and I will not be asked to babysit again.

AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS MY TUMMY RUMBLING

DSC_0023
ONLY PICS I HAVE TODAY ARE A FEW OF THE RIG I TOOK THIS AFTERNOON
I stood for awhile with my elbows resting on my bedroom window sill last night watching banks of darkened clouds move silently across a rising Moon.  Truly a mystical scene remembered from early day childhood story books.  A nice way to remember a long ago day.
---
In a semi-sleep I thought it was my tummy growling, but no, sounded more like the wheels of our recycle bin being reeled past my bedroom window.  But wait, I have the bin full of yard waste so it couldn’t be making that hollow rumbling sound.  Rousing a tad bit more from a sound sleep I was suddenly aware of a flash in my room followed by a loud rumble.  Dam those F-16 fighter jets & why are they dropping bombs at night!!  Another flash & another rumble.  Nearly fully awake now.  Hey, wait a minute, that sounds like rain on our roof again.  Flash-boom!!  Yikes, it’s a big thunderstorm going on & I have things from the Motorhome sitting outside!!!!!!!!
DSC_0013
Pheebs & I were on our feet in a flash & out the door.  Her in her fur coat & me in my pajamas.  Quickly moved a few things inside off the porch & then headed out into the front yard to grab the wheelbarrow.  I had thrown a tarp over things near the Motorhome but with the accompanying storm winds figured that was probably blown off.  Piece of luck, tarp was still in place so I hastily tipped the wheelbarrow upside down over it to hold the tarp in place.  Pheebs of course was running along beside me helping but by the time we got back in the house we were a couple a soggy doggies, & of course, wide awake now.  Changed jammies & turned on the TV for awhile.  Nothing like late night television to put one to sleep.  It was 11 o’clock & by 11:15 I was once again well on my back to la la land.  Pheebs too:))
DSC_0016
Sunny morning with big white fluffy clouds but a brisk breeze made for a ‘dressing warm’ day.  With our 6 years of processions coming out of the Motorhome it all needed a place to temporarily go.  Most of it ended up in Kelly’s office but a good portion was hastily dumped in the garden shed.  I’m not a fan of clutter so I busied myself this morning reorganizing the whole shed & vacuuming the Motorhome.   Kelly was busy manning the phones looking after the business end of things.  Monies have to be shifted around in Canada, financial transactions have to take place, faxes have to be sent, phone calls made, & monies transferred etc. etc.  And why does Kelly do all that ‘taking care of business stuff??  Easy, she’s the one with the patience & most good brains for all that:))
---
Quartzsite’s ‘RV’s For Less’ emailed today wondering when we were bringing the Motorhome over.  Kelly emailed back saying not until the money is transferred from our facility to their facility which could be maybe Tuesday or Wednesday.  We do not want to be driving all the way over to Quartzsite twice just for the sake of a couple days.  I did re-attach the hitch-up gear to the Jeep today in anticipation of us heading for Quartzsite as soon as we get the green light.
DSC_8135
Had a reader take me to task in an email for my statement in last Fridays post about not saying too much about this whole Quartzsite deal & then turning around in the past couple days saying too much about this whole Quartzsite deal.  Well, she’s right of course.  For me, anything going on in my life is like riding on a crowded bus after spending a whole day at a bean eating competition & trying not to let anything squeak out on the way home.  Maybe not the best analogy but some folks might get my drift.  Say, do I smell something funny around here somewhere….
---
By mid afternoon we had a darkening cloud cover move in, winds picked up & temperatures' dropped.  Disappointing, but weather people say 74 by Friday with lots of sunshine:))
 DSC_0017
Almost afraid to mention this because I have before & then it seems to jinx me.  But, my right leg is feeling much, much, better than it has for a very long time.  Not going to say anything more, because sure as heck….
---
For anyone out there having had or about to have hip surgery, you might find Mike’s post over at PHANNIE & MAE quite interesting as goes from pre to post op surgery & mentions how he feels about the medical profession.  I am inclined to agree with him.  Also recovering from a recent surgery is Judy over at TRAVELS WITH EMMA.  Judy, commonly referred to as the ‘Birdlady Of Blogland’ & a daily blogger has not posted since January 23rd so if you have a minute you might want to drop by her site & see how’s she’s coming along.  A word of encouragement or two always goes a long way after a grinding surgery.
DSC_0026
GROANER’S CORNER:((  Did you know when a man opens a car door for his wife, it's either a new car or a new wife.  And of course we all know that lawyers believe a man is innocent until proven broke.  Some may think we are here on earth to do good unto others.  But what the others are
here for, we have no idea.

RAIN RAIN GO AWAY… AND IT DID:))

DSC_0006
YAAAAAAY, BLUE SKIES AT LAST THIS AFTERNOON:))
I sometimes start the day’s post early in the morning when I first get up.  By the end of the day I have to sometimes come back & re-write what I have written & sometimes I can let it stand.  It is 4:10 a.m. Sunday morning as I begin this & I can still hear rain beating on the roof.  This kind of starts me off in a blue mood, but maybe that will change by the end of the day.  (and it did:))

PHEEBS LOVES TO STOP ON OUR MORNING WALK & HAVE A LITTLE NOSE TO NOSE WITH HER PALS
There was a time when I could sit down at the keyboard after supper & simply put the whole post together, including photos, in a relatively short period of time.  Haven’t done that for a few years now because I am usually too tired.  When tired, I make too many mistakes & have a tendency to hurry things along & not re-check anything.  So, now I’m in the habit of starting my posts in early morn & simply adding a paragraph or two as I go along through the day.   I think this may explain why my posts sometimes swing like a moody pendulum. Some parts happy, some parts not so much. Topics can jump around during the day as first the pendulum swings left, then right, then maybe not at all.

THESE FELLOWS JUST MIGHT END UP BEING OUR WEED CONTROL CREW THIS SUMMER
From my computer chair this morning I look to my left & see a furry little Rascal Buns all curled up on my pillow sound asleep.  And, for right now, at this moment, all is well with the world.  And, I like that:))
IMG_3407
Okay, let’s get on with the day & see what’s been happening.
DSC_8129
LOVE WATCHING THESE F-16 FIGHTING FALCONS IN MOCK COMBAT OVER OUR HOUSE…THEY ARE BASED AT LUKE AFB NEAR SURPRISE
We are cautiously optimistic our RV deal is going to go through this week but nothing will be final in my mind until we are in possession of the vehicle & on the road heading home.  Then, & only then, will I open the door marked…'Excited’. There can always be last minute glitches in final negotiations.  However, despite some slight pessimism on my part we are going ahead full tilt in cleaning out & cleaning up our Motorhome.  After 6 years, there is a lot of cleaning out & cleaning up to do too.  We just could not believe all the stuff we had squirreled away in there as we carried item after item into the house.
DSC_0003
The Quartzsite dealer is anxious for us to get the rig over there & the pressure is on.  I did manage to get a few bins cleared out in the pouring rain Saturday & Kelly did make a start on the inside.  By cleaning, we are actually making quite a mess of things with all this rain water mixed with red crushed stone dust on our shoes.  Like one cleaning step forward & 3 messy steps back:((  Monday a.m. we will be doing a lot of vacuuming.
DSC_0009
LATER TODAY >>>
Noticed the rain had stopped for a bit this morning so headed out early & continued the clean up.  Managed to get all the basement bins on the passenger side emptied, vacuumed, & washed out before another series of drizzly rain showers rolled through the neighborhood.  Kelly made a lot of headway inside & we had the Pheebs encouraging us on…...and dragging more muddy paws inside.  By early afternoon I had finished the entire basement of the Motorhome & Kelly was coming down the home stretch inside the coach.  We were at last beginning to see some light at the end of the tunnel.  Some might ask, ‘why clean it all up if your just going to trade it in anyway’?  My short answer to that is simply….because it is the right thing to do.
DSC_0001
DODGING AROUND BETWEEN SHORT LIGHT RAIN SHOWERS THIS MORNING I WAS ABLE TO FINISH CLEANING THE BASEMENT BINS
We should be able to finish the Motorhome up in the morning & that will be it.  And, here’s the best part of the whole darn day……THE SUN FINALLY CAME OUT ABOUT 2 P.M. THIS AFTERNOON)))))))))))))))))))))))))

WOW, STARTING TO LOOK LIKE ARIZONA AGAIN

RAIN, RAIN, & MORE RAIN…WOULD HAVE TO CHALK THIS ONE UP AS A LOST DAY

DSC_0003

AND, THIS KIND OF SUMS UP OUR RAINY DAY

Had ourselves a steady rain all day long with no let up.  Temps dropped & tonight we have our small space heaters going full tilt.  This newer 3/8 inch red crushed stone isn’t working out the best though.  As feared, it sticks to shoes when wet, tracks inside & has a habit of leaving smears on the floor from the reddish dust.  Wipes off & wipes up easy enough, but…..  Maybe all this rain will wash that dust down into the stones more.   I did use the Jeep to try & pack it down harder in the wet ground today as well but ended up making some ruts.

DSC_0001

THAT REDDISH ORANGE WATER IS FROM OUR CRUSHED RED GRAVEL

Well, we are over the half way point now in this years stay in the southwest. Hard to imagine in another couple of months we will have to leave this all behind for half a year again. It’s always a worry for we Canadians whether we will make it back across the border for another Snow Bird season in the fall. We know of RVers who have left home heading south, only to be turned back at the border on some kind of technicality. With ever tightening border restrictions, changing laws, & border guard personality flaws, one’s winter lifestyle can end in an instant. Only takes one grumpy boarder guard to take a dislike to the cut of your Jib (nautical term) & decide you have a tire on upside down & should not be allowed entry into the United States. Always one of those little worries that kind of simmers away on a back burner somewhere.

DSC_0006

DSC_0015 DSC_0016

We have had our Motorhome since April of 2007 & it has served us well.  No major problems with it at all except for the usual little glitches here & there.  The engine, transmission & drive train never caused us one bit of trouble in all that time.  We did have to put all new tires on it a couple years ago though.  But, it’s 10 years old & we didn’t want to reach a point where we had to begin pouring money into it for aging repairs, etc.  The rig is still worth some money but in another 3 or 4 years it may very well be worth nothing.   We will miss our solar set up for sure & we will miss the larger living quarters & full basement storage.  But, we have to roll with the changing times & for us it is time to downsize into something smaller & more practical for our needs.  We’ll see how things shake out over the next few days & if we have ourselves a deal on something.

The south-west has always been my favorite part of the country for scenery & if you drop by Mark’s blog over at BOX CANYON BLOG he can show you better than I what it is I like about the big swirling rock formations, the myriad of colors, & the overall magic of the land.  Mark’s got himself some nice photos over there again.

IVAN is still lost somewhere in the downtown shopping maze of Quartzsite Arizona.  He has been sending his model helicopter aloft in an attempt to take photos of where he is.  Thought I saw it fly over yesterday towing a banner saying…HELP!!  To get a true idea of just how big an event this is at Quartzsite every year, just slip on over to Ivan’s blog & check out the Q from a few hundred feet up.  You’ve heard of, ‘Where’s Waldo’, well now I think it’s………… Where’s Ivan:))

NO CAMPFIRE OVER THERE IN THE CAMPFIRE PIT BEYOND THE TREE EITHER…HEY, IS THAT A UFO THERE IN THE UPPER RIGHT

And, speaking of Ivan, it was one year ago today that Ivan & I were out in the desert near Bouse, bumping & jolting our way over some old dusty Jeep roads & stopping to look at a few mine shafts here & there.  HI-HO HI-HO IT'S A JEEPIN IVAN & I DID GO  Kelly had slipped over to Parker with Wandering Willy to pick up some groceries & a fiber glass kit to repair our busticated satellite dish.

EVEN THE PHEEBS IS HAVING A BORING INSIDE DAY

Well, it’s the end of a frustratingly bad weather day.  All of a sudden we have a ton of stuff to get organized & most of it involves being outside.  Today was a total loss & if it rains again all day Sunday we are really going to be crammed in behind the eight ball on a possible heavy schedule for next week.  Oh Dear…..  And thanks to everyone for your Verizon/Millenicom thoughts & suggestions:))DSC_0007

HAD OURSELVES A ‘LOOOOONG DAY’ IN QUARTZSITE ARIZONA

DSC_8125

MORNING WALK SUNRISE

I think it was somewhere about halfway through our morning walk that we decided to take a drive over to Quartzsite today & have us a look at what the dealers had in stock for smaller RV’s.  We have pretty much decided it is the right time for us to deal our Motorhome.  It’s 10 years old with 50,000 miles on it & we just do not need to haul all that space around anymore.

DSC_8126

DESPITE OUR HEAVY OVERCAST MORNING, HARQUAHALA MOUNTAIN TO OUR WEST WAS BATHED IN SUNLIGHT

Under a second day of overcast skies, we headed west for Quartzsite.  Nice to get out of the house & see some new scenery.  As we neared our destination that scenery began to look familiar to us & that gave me a homey feeling.  Our first time in Quartzsite was in January of 07 & we were driving a truck & fifth wheel at the time.  I think we have been back to Quartzsite pretty well every year since & actually boondocked there 3 or 4 times.  Last year, boondocked in Bouse, we Jeeped over to the Q for a few hours one day.

DSC_0001

HEADING FOR QUARTZSITE ARIZONA

Really enjoyed seeing the Kofa Mountain range again & my mind was flooded with many pleasant memories.  As much as I do grumble about all the people & traffic congestion & general chaos, I do have a special place in my heart for the Q.  And, just as we rolled into town, the sun came out.  Nice:))

DSC_0004 DSC_0008

DSC_0017

YEP, LOOKS LIKE WE ARE IN QUARTZSITE ALRIGHT

We were in town over 6 hours today & not one minute of that time was spent in the big tent or dragging ourselves up & down the many vendor rows.  Been there & done that too many times before.  Our mission today was RV dealerships to look at vehicles & get ourselves an idea of what it was we were looking for, if indeed we should be looking for anything at all.

DSC_0010

FIRST STOP WAS AT THE LE MESA DEALERSHIP

DSC_0011 DSC_0013DSC_0021 DSC_0022

Quartzsite has it’s main intersection on the north side of I-10.  On one corner there is a gas station & on the other 3 corners are RV dealerships.  We hit the biggest one first.  Le Mesa out of the Tucson/Phoenix area generally has the biggest selection & today was no exception.  Except, not much in the way of what we were looking for.  We kicked a few tires, gasped at the sticker prices, & clambered our way through maybe half a dozen small rigs.  Nothing caught our fancy.

DSC_0035

DSC_0020 DSC_0025

DSC_0028 DSC_0029

Made our way to the northeast corner of the intersection & looked at a couple rigs over there, but again, nothing.  Spotted another dealer on the southwest corner & saw they had some smaller units right up near the road.  It was here at ‘RV’s For Less’ that we spent the majority of our time scrambling in & out of 4 smaller Class C’s.  One of those C’s was a 2013, one owner with only 3,255 miles on it.

RV ALLEY

Now, you all know how Mr. Blabberfingers here can get kind of over the top about things & get the cart before the horse.  So, with that in mind & orders from the Boss, I can’t tell you too much more about what we decided on today until we ourselves know for sure what we are doing.

It was under rainy skies that we finally rolled out of Quartszite around 5 o’clock this afternoon heading for home.  We were both sooooo tired.  I had been up since 2:30 this morning.  Lots to talk about on the way & it was nearly 7 before we made it home.  Think it was the first time we had both been out after dark for maybe a couple years or more.  We sure had one happy little doggy waiting at the door for us…………..
