SOME GREAT EGRETS, SOME FIERY COLORS, & RESPONDING TO EMAILS

NICE MORNING FOR A HIKE IN THE HULLETT MARSH

DSC_0020 DSC_0032 DSC_0015

Our nicest weather days of the year are upon us.  The air has a touch of coolness in it while the sun adds it’s warmth.  Much like Arizona weather in the winter.  Pheebs & I were out the door & down the road before 9.  Headed east into the sun with our visors down.  It sometimes takes us a few roads & a few turns to finally get a feel for where we’re going.  And this morning felt like a walk in the HULLETT MARSH.

WE SURPRISED THIS GREAT EGRET WHEN WE TOPPED A SLIGHT RISE

Swinging north a bit we cut back heading west & entered the Marsh on it’s eastern boundary putting the sun behind us.  Knew there might be a chance of seeing some wildlife so it was best to have the morning light behind us.  We got ourselves lucky right away by surprising a couple wading Egrets.

THOUGHT THIS WAS AN OLD GNARLED STUMP UNTIL I LATER ENLARGED IT IN MY PICASA PROGRAM…IT’S AN OLD STEEL FRAME OF SOME SORT…PERSONALLY, I THINK IT IS THE OLD HULLETT SWAMP MONSTER HIMSELF……

DON’T KNOW WHAT BIRD THAT IS OR WHAT KIND OF A BIRD HOUSE BUT THERE ARE MANY BIRD HOUSES IN THE MARSH

GREAT EGRETS, CANADA GEESE, & SOME DUCKS IN THIS REFLECTION PHOTO

No soakers this morning as we both tried hard to keep paws & feet out of the water.  Well feet anyway.  I did see some paws in the water.  Always so nice in the Marsh because it is total nature with just natural flora & fauna all around.  Rarely see another human being in the area except when it’s hunting season & that is not a good time to be anywhere near the Marsh.  Only sounds this morning were that of natures wonders.  How fortunate we are to have these wetlands so near.

GETTING SOME PAWS WET & SHADOWLAND

From the Hullett Marsh we wandered our way along criss-crossing many country roads just soaking up all the early Autumn scenery.  A couple farmers were taking off some corn already which surprised me.  Seems a little early.   I’d say the beans are about ready to be harvested & I did see metal farm wagons parked at the edges of bean fields ready to roll.  Maybe in the next week or two.  Corn is usually harvested in late October.

Kept my post short & published it early Thursday night mainly because I wanted to take some time to answer emails readers have sent me.  I always think to myself I will remember to answer folks each time & as it turns out I do not.  Over the last couple of weeks I have been going through my 2 email accounts trying to find past emails I had forgotten to respond to.  And find a bunch I did.  I always feel very bad when I have missed someone & especially if they have emailed me with questions about things.  I really need to come up with some kind of fool proof system that keeps those emails in front of me.  Like the old saying goes, ‘out of sight out of mind’.  Oh Dear, it’s not easy being a human:((

MILKWEED PODS ARE OPENING & SPREADING THEIR SEEDS TO THE WIND >>>

Kelly updated my iPod today with the latest pieces of music I have downloaded from iTunes over the summer.  Bet you never heard of any of these groups, ‘TranceGroove’, ‘Intrusion’. ‘Weatherman’‘Groove Catcher’, ‘Milky Globe’, ‘William Aura’, ‘Koop’, ‘Cantoma’, ‘Sorma’, ‘Soul Ballet’, ‘David Darling’, ‘Merge Of Equals’, ‘Lotus’, ‘Jia Peng Fang’, ‘Neo Tropic’, ‘Secret Garden’, ‘Richard Bone’, ‘Naoyuki Onda’, ‘Union Jack’, ‘Blue Skies’, ‘Shao Rong’, ‘Soma Sonic’, ‘Bliss’, ‘Angel Tears’, ‘Kevin Kendle’, ‘Ganga’, ‘Peace Orchestra’, ‘Shastro’ &‘Naoki Kenji’.  Nope didn’t think so.  It’s a whole different kind of music I listen to now these last bunch of years & most folks are probably not familiar with it.  Let’s just say it’s really groovy, really smooth & 95% of it is instrumental electronic.  Ambient New Age:))

Sure am missing those big basement bins we had in our 33’ Damon Class A Motorhome.  It’s turning out to be a bit of a challenge working with about a third of the space this year as we load the Winnebago for this winter’s travels.  No doubt we will have a period of adjustment to contend with on our way west.  What goes where & where goes what.  But it’s called downsizing & I’m sure we will adjust to it as we travel along.  Patience will be the key.

We have splashes of Autumn color here & there & the forests are just beginning to turn in some places.  I’d say our countryside will be ablaze with Mother Natures fiery crimsons, deep burgundies, ochre oranges, & golden yellows in another week or two.  The magic is in the air & oh how fortunate we are to live here where we do.  We get to see nature at it’s artful best in our rural countryside.

A FEW FIERY SPLASHES OF AUTUMN COLOR ARE BEGINNING, SOON THE WHOLE FOREST WILL BE ABLAZE

GROANER’S CORNER:((  And did you know a chicken crossing the road is poultry in motion.  And did you also know it's a fact, taller people sleep longer in bed.  And remember ladies.....Beauty is only a light switch away.

  1. Al, I am not sure what kind of email program you use on your computer but for example all of my email accounts are gmail but I load them into my iMac email program so all of the email from gmail is forwarded to ONE inbox and I catch all of them that way. Email me and maybe I can help you via email if I know what kind of email program you have on your computer.

  2. You were right in your guess that the metal object was in fact a 50s something vehicle frame judging from the spring pockets. Sadly that is a reminder of the times when people didn't think very much of the real beauty in nature. Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

  3. You sure got some good shooting there in the marsh, Al. I'd much rather see your kind of shots than the kind there during hunting season. As always, enjoy your photos so much, really like your header.

We went for a drive yesterday, and also noticed that there was one big corn field that had already been harvested. Those farmers must know what they're doing, for sure. I would never make it as a farmer.

Enjoy your packing things into the motorhome. One of the problems I always have is just which shirts and pants and jackets and such to take with me. So, I end up taking way too much, since I don't wear most of them at all during the time we're on the road. Guess I need to learn to plan better.

  4. Looks like you guys have some hardwoods up there, from all the reds. Great photos. About all we have here in Colorado are scrub oak and Rocky Mountain Maples, and not so many maples as over in Utah, where they are gorgeous in the fall.

Over where Box Canyon Mark lives by Ouray, there's a big hill of scrub oak that is beautiful when it turns - it's called the Magic Carpet. That really fits it when the colors turn.

  5. We know what you mean about taking things on the long journey. When we were making the 1300 mile trek from TX to MN, we used my Honda as a red wagon. Loaded it so much--even took plants in the trunk! Generally we never unhooked the car. If it became absolutely necessary, we had to transfer stuff to the RV, then shuffle it again. But! I didn't want to do without some things for 3+ months, so it was worth it. Good luck on your handling of the problem!!

  6. Good luck finding space for your stuff, at least you won't have to take everything with you if you go off
boondocking for a week or two. We are in the beginning of a week long storm, I envy your sunny days, even if it is cooler at night.

  7. Awesome Dragonfly and Egret flying behind the trees. Yes I envy those two pics. Happy you shared them with us, all of them were great.
I go with that car / truck frame being a swamp monster. Good story to tell kids in the area.
We finally got the packing figured out and now we do not use the RV. I do know that over packing is easy and the only thing you need a lot of is underwear. Laundry mats are my least enjoyed RV event.

  9. All of the suggestions about what to do with your email seem to be good ones. However, they also seem to miss the point that you need to look at them. Good luck with changing that aspect of Out of Sight Out of Mind.

  10. I love the wetlands best I think. Might be time for those egrets to get on the air about the same time you get on the road, Al. We are heading into a three month trip in January, and with our 26 footer without those big storage bins the big boys have, we are also thinking about space. It works, and you will love your shorter size, really you will!

  11. The corn has just begun to be harvested. Dennis should be in the combine by the end of this week..I accuse him of "bait and switch"..When we married, 44years ago, he never disclosed he was a closet farmer..;-)

  12. Beautiful photos. Love the ones from the white heron. Just beautiful.
How did you do the 3D photo effect? That is cool. First I thought I had a vision problem. :)) Had to look real close. Jupp, it is 3D-like!

  13. We have rushed through Wyoming and Nebraska, trying to escape the rain and snow-especially the snow.

Now, we are in Iowa and it is like we have back-peddled! We have come from late fall/winter with snow to green trees with no color and corn that needs to dry out.....a lot. Confusing, to say the least.

We are ready to head to the southwest and have yet to finish our trip home!
