A SHORT RV DRIVE & ‘THE SONS OF THE PIONEERS’ TOPPED MY DAY

DSC_0070

Always a good feeling for me driving our RV whether it was the Damon, the Sunseeker, or now the Winnebago. Pheebs & I took Winnie the Bago for a ride this morning listening to the SON'S OF THE PIONEERS. Their harmonies always pick up my spirits & take me back to our happy travels & lifestyle in the South West.

<<< TIS THE SEASON FOR MUSHROOMS & BIG EDIBLE PUFF BALLS
A phone call from my Nurse Practitioner's office confirmed what I had already expected. The results were in from my cholesterol tests & my numbers were exceptionally high. Nurses words were, "your LDL is off the charts." Well, so what else is new. Seems most people I know have high cholesterol levels. Nurse Practitioner said I am to get back on my meds. I was put on Crestor about a year ago but stopped taking it a couple months later because of pains in my hip. Leg pain is a side effect of Crestor. When I stopped taking it the sharp pain I was having on the outside of my right hip stopped. I associated that with Crestor & never did resume the pills. Soon as I told my NP that a few days ago, a blood test was ordered & now I'm back on Crestor. Another possible side effect is over tiredness. Oh great, just what I needed right now….more tired added onto already tired:((

ANOTHER EVENING GOOSE POND REFLECTION

GROANER’S CORNER:((  Sam and Sally Clam live at the bottom of the sea and they are wild for dancing and go every night to Sam's dance club. Well, life is good until one day, poor Sally buys the farm and floats up to heaven.

At orientation, St. Peter tells her all the rules, hands her a harp that she has to keep with her at all times, and tells her to have a good time. It's okay for a while, but as with ALL dancers, even dead clam dancers, she misses her former life and all the fun times out on the floor with her partner, Sam.

After much moping around, Sally finally gets permission to go back to earth for ONE day, but she has to be back in heaven by the last stroke of midnight. So, she's off! She finds Sam and they're having a great time - double spins, reverse London Bridge, slithers up and down - until BONG! BONG - it's midnight!

Sally races back up to heaven, where she is greeted by St. Peter who has a TERRIBLE look on his face!

"Where is your harp?"

"Oh no”……….“I left my harp in Sam Clam’s Disco!!

  1. I love the Sons, too.

To me, their melodies transform me back into a perfect world and for me, it is good medicine for my soul.

Not too many people around that know about the Pioneers.

  2. There are other products beside Crestor. I was put on Lipidor and it almost made me a cripple. I couldn't bend over, could hardly walk. So my doctor switched me to Zorcor. Apparently these medications are different, do the same but have different ingredients. The Zorcor has not caused the problem I had with Lipidor. Talk to your doctor about a different product.

  3. Just as Ruth has said when you take medication for any reason it is like a Carp Shoot. Kathy was on Lipitor and was almost a cripple but not with the Crestor. Her aunt was on Crestor and almost went blind. Kathy is also on Plavix and it works good for her but for my friend Ernie he ended up with bleeding ulcers because of it. Work with the Nurse Practioner if you are having problems tell her and she can try something different that will work for you.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

  4. Hi, Al. So much enjoyed last night's blog; meant to comment on it, but got side-tracked. I wanted to say that, once again, I was knocked down by how very much you give us. That was one great post. I read the whole thing out loud to my other half. We wonder if you have any idea how tremendous is the contribution you make to OUR worlds? A big thanks. I always watch for your post before I close down my computer for the night. Gotta see what you've been up to, how you're doing, etc. Keep on listening to that music; it'll help you stay upbeat.

  5. I have been reading your blog for awhile and often commented. I finally just decided to go ahead with the google setup.

I love your blog, your photos, your love of nature, your love of dogs and the fact that you remind me of my brother.

Best wishes to you both and the Pheebs!

  6. Hi AL
Silly Boy why would you even think your cholesterol would not be off the charts with all that junk food that you consume. I mentioned once before is not fit for man nor beast.

Lots of alternative stuff out there. I have not taken the poisons my Doc ordered for me for 3 years now and I have great numbers and my bones dont creek. You can too ,you just have to quite the junk food( MC Donald's, Horton muffins and the like) and get on a sensible alternative health gig. It helps a lot to change your thinking to positive. It is all in your hands and your hands only.
    Good luck Bud

  7. I must agree with Rojo, if you stay out of those junk food places your cholesterol will have to go down. It would be very hard to do but the reward will be great. Give it a try.

  8. Hi. Sorry you have been put back on Crestor.

There is a new book coming out in a couple of weeks.... it will also be on Kindle. Here is the website http://www.cholesterolclarity.com/

Another book worth looking at is The Great Cholesterol Myth

    http://www.amazon.com/The-Great-Cholesterol-Myth-Disease/dp/1592335217

There is a growing mass of evidence to show that drugs are not always the answer but most doctors have been brainwashed by the drug companies. I believe lipitor makes billions for its parent company every year.

I hope you will have a look and maybe you and Kelly can search out the diet changes which will get you off the hook.

I have been following this stuff for more than a couple of years and there is so much information that your doctor is not telling you .... maybe he is not even aware of it all. It seems to me that in this day and age we can take more responsibility for our own health because the internet can make us better informed than busy doctors.

You are too young to let a drug wreck your life when there is a less harmful answer.

    Blessings

  10. Seems to be a common ailment.
Both my wife's and my levels are "slightly elevated" and the doc wants to put her on Crestor and she hasn't filled her prescription yet. I'm still a 'wait and see'. *sigh*
I already have a sore hip...
Anyway, certainly nice to get out in the RV. I miss that.

  11. I'm on Simvistatin..total cholesterol was 230 however my Doc said my HDL was 100 and that is the good stuff. Some of this can be helped by diet. Dennis had high cholesterol and is on Simvistatin too, but his is down to 160...That really frosts my cake!! Heart disease is in my family, so I will obey my Doc...for once ;-)

  12. Thanks for the introduction to a fellow Colorado blogger/photographer, Al, and as always the link up.
My cholest. is 260 ish and of course the doc pressures me every time I see him. There are people living long lives with high cholesterol...and there are some myths out there promoted by the big drug companies. They use scare tactics in their commercials, too. I'm no doc, but so far I have refused the meds and just try (emphasis on "try") to eat right. I do take an asprin every day, and have a glass of wine or a beer once a day...eat foods high in antioxidants...but don't turn down ice cream or potato salad, steak or eggs when they are put in front of me, either. Moderation in all things...especially sugar, that could be the real poison. It makes me sluggish and puts weight on faster than foods high in cholest...at least that's been my experience. Some people have lowered cholest. with Niacin mega doses...It worked for me for a while, but megadoses of anything doesn't sound smart. Life is a crap shoot...tornados hit churches and kids die from cancer. It's important to go out swinging...

  13. Al, I wanted to let you know that yours is the first blog I read every morning. You and Kelly are awesome. I appreciate the post on The Big D. I know it well, as do many people.
Also wanted to ask you, since I'm a Pioneers fan (plus Lefty, Hank Snow, Jim Reeves and the very great Johnny Horton) - have you listened to the Browns? Their songs make me tear up every time. "Three Bells", "Scarlet Ribbon", "the Old Lamplighter". OK and while reminiscing I remember the Kingston Trio, mainly "Charlie on the MTA" - my mom had a heckuva time EVER getting me to get on a bus or train after that song..... Anyway, thanks for bringing up the incredible memories.
