AN IMMIGRANT BILL COULD ALLOW CANADIANS LONGER STAYS IN ARIZONA

DSC_2390

One of the nicest things with our cooler weather is the fact we can once again open wide our windows & doors. Love nature’s fresh air blowing freely through our house & I especially enjoy sitting quietly in my recliner listening to the happy twittering's of waking birds at dawn.

Always seems to be a confusing issue for Canadians when it comes to lengths of time we are allowed stay in the United States. It is not only our own Provinces that control that time period but it is our friends to the south as well. Reader Bob sent in an article entitled, IMMIGRANT BILL COULD ALLOW CANADIANS LONGER STAYS, BOOST ARIZONA ECONOMY. Some interesting thoughts & statistics here & some good common sense too. I’m always on the side of good common sense.

  1. You're right - common sense. Hope it can all work out so our Canadian friends can stay longer.

Loved the Groaner's Corner....I taught Kindergarten/First Grade for 32 years! I should have written a book about those kind of answers!

  4. Thanks for posting the link to the article on longer stays in the US, Al. I had heard mention of the bill a few months ago and just yesterday was wondering if anything came of it. That would certainly give us more leeway in planning our trips south.

  7. We are patiently waiting for that bill to be passed and extra month down south every winter would sure be nice.

  8. That new "Snowbird Bill" isn't really all that wonderful. Most snowbirds have already a hard time paying their exorbitantly highly U.S. Travel insurance. I cannot see that this bill will have a great impact on Canadian snowbird's stay in the U.S. And, besides, most of the snowbirds we know do not own property in the States. I also heard that owned property must be above a certain value. That will definitely exclude more snowbirds from the enjoyment of an extended stay.

  10. The Bill, if passed, will allow SOME Canadians to stay longer. Those that now live in Providences that require only 5 months residence to maintain medical insurance. Those that live in Providences requiring 6 months residence will not benefit.
If either of those groups are willing to forgo their Providence medical insurance then the Bill will add 30-60 days to their allowed stay.
I'm curious as to what the 'common sense' reason if for requiring any period of residence to maintain medical coverage. I assume there is a reason but I don't think I have ever read what that might be.

  11. Hey, you guys just come on down and stay as long as you like; bring lots of money and leave it here. Aww, we'd let you stay even if you didn't have lots of money to leave here.

  12. Spectacular butterfly shot!!

I had heard of this new bill and think it is great for those that can use it. We are so happy that BC just passed a bill allowing us to be out of province 7 months. For us that means more time in Mexico, eventually.
