PARKED THE RIG CLOSE TO THE HOUSE SO I COULD GET UP ON THE ROOF TO TAKE A PHOTO OF THE HOUSE ROOF TO BE REPAIRED
I was relieved to wake up this morning with no leg problems other than the usual morning stiffness. Whatever it was causing problems yesterday had subsided. I was good to go for another day. At least for awhile anyway.
Had a couple yummy left over Pizza pieces for breakfast & washed them down with a big bowl of porridge. Chased that with a peanut butter & honey sandwich & I was powered up for the rest of the day. Well, till early afternoon anyway.
We have had 2 of the loveliest weather days & our desert walk was under sunny skies & warming temperatures. Glenda & Jeff from CASITA ESCAPES were packed up by nine & on the road headed for Phoenix. After Phoenix they will head to Quartzsite for the annual Casita rally by Dome Rock.
Spent my whole morning on the end of a shovel, rake, & wheelbarrow. So far I have swapped out about 2/3rds of our half inch crushed stone & replaced it with the 3/8 inch stone. I am finding other places for the 1/2 inch stuff so nothing is wasted. Well, except for my energy levels feeling pretty wasted by mid afternoon.
Opened our gates early this morning expecting our roofer guy around 8. Remember me saying about the laid back type of lifestyle here in the southwest. Yep, the roofer guy showed up about 1 o’clock. He wasn’t long getting the old shingles & tarpaper off though. However, he pointed out a problem which I had kind of suspected. The roof was built out of old boards likely salvaged off an old building years ago. Kelly & I both climbed up the ladder to see for ourselves & yes, there is only one thing to do to have the job done right. Plywood!! We will have to have the roof sheeted before the new material goes on. After looking at the old boards, I can understand why that has to be done.
I remember a comment question from a couple days ago wondering if I am missing the traveling part of our RVing lifestyle. Simple answer to that question is, “no….not yet”. Of course the 2 key words there are, ‘not yet’. Reason that I am not afflicted with hitch itch so far this season is that we are spending a totally different winter from the last 6 years & it is that busy change that has kept the hounds of boredom away from the door. However, as soon as my projects begin to run out & I find myself sitting around I know fully well I will be getting restless again. It’s just my nature. For sure the call of the open road will be banging on my door again. And, that is the whole reason for our home base here in the southwest. Looking forward to shorter 1 & 2 week jaunts as soon as the dust settles from our house adventures here. In fact, just writing this at the moment, I felt a little ‘itch’ twinge:))
I don’t do shaky ladders any more so in order to get a few photos of our roof to be repaired I nosed the Motorhome up close to the house & climbed up the secure ladder on the back of the rig. Was able to get a couple house roof photos plus a few aerial views of the front yard.
IT’S QUITE A ROOF CONFIGURATION WE HAVE HERE
MY LITTLE CACTUS GARDEN OUT FRONT LOOKS SO….’LITTLE’
Looks like our weather is about to head into the dumpster starting Thursday. Chance of rain & even snow on Friday. We are a little concerned at the moment because the weatherman is calling for a 30% chance of rain Thursday & the roof over my bedroom right now it totally exposed. Night time lows are going down to well below freezing for the next week or so as well.
A few blogs back I mentioned about leaving our back Jeep seat at home in Ontario. Good friends Jim & Bev in Wickenburg offered us their back seat. They have a 96 Jeep Wrangler & dropped in this afternoon with their back seat. Like us, they don’t leave the back seat in their Jeep & had it in storage. Not an exact anchorage match between an 06 & a 96 Wrangler but the seat fits in fine & will be honky dory for us to use next week when Kelly’s brother Peter & wife Leslie come from Rochester. Also, neighbor Gerry from up the road stopped in today & said he will show us where the Petroglyphs are next week.
ALTHOUGH NOT AN EXACT FIT, THIS 1996 REAR JEEP SEAT WILL DO THE JOB JUST FINE
I wonder how many ‘comments’ we have missed & how long we have been missing them. I have our Blogger settings configured to send a copy of each comment to our Hotmail account & that is where I read them. By accident about a week ago I discovered that not all comments were being sent to Hotmail. For example, if we had 10 comments, only 7 might make it to our email account. I have no idea how long this has been going on. I set up our Gmail account to receive comments & ran into a problem there as well so I suspect there is some kind of problem with Blogger. For anyone having comments emailed to them, you might want to check the number of your emailed comments to the number of comments actually showing up on your posts. You may notice a discrepancy. Your post comment number will be the accurate one.
For a real southwest cowboy experience be sure to keep an eye on JOHN & BRENDA'S INCREDIBLE JOURNEY. John & Brenda, located southwest of Phoenix Arizona are true horse people & you can ride along with them on their many Arizona trail rides. Always lots of great pictures of horses, cowboys, & great Arizona scenery.
