CLIMBED ABOARD THE ‘POLAR EXPRESS’ WITHOUT EVER LEAVING MY RECLINER

ANOTHER NICE EARLY MORNING SUNRISE ON GHOST TOWN ROAD

At the risk of sounding annoyingly repetitive, my day was a smattering of puttering again.  Began defining some pathways through the front Cactus Garden, transplanted some ‘Desert Broom’ plants & just generally scratched around in the dirt like a chicken.  Actually, I’m having second thoughts about those garden pathways.  Maybe just better to leave the walking area natural………. Any ideas?

Definitely felt cooler when we got up this morning so figured maybe it was time to try out our fireplace today.  I have no experience with wood fireplaces so we just started off easy making a small fire to see how things worked.  Would the smoke really go up the chimney & the heat really come into the living room?  Well, sort of, & after a little research on the internet I had a much better handle on the do’s & don’ts of wood burning fireplaces.

Kelly spent most of her day cleaning & sewing up some curtains.  Soaked up some sun in the back yard relaxing with her book & just generally enjoyed another day in our southwest sticks & bricks.  As much as we have enjoyed our Snow Bird boondocking these last years, I must admit, we are pretty darn content this year to just be exactly where we are:))

It was a year ago today we met RV SUE & HER CANINE CREW on Darby Wells road near Ajo, Arizona.  My post for that first time meeting is HERE:))

Now, about that tall outside clothes dryer.  We already had a 3 ft metal pipe inside another metal pipe in the ground.  The clothes dryer pipe actually fit over one of those pipes but only slide down so far & stopped there making it waaaay to tall.  Decided to saw the clothes dryer poll off about 14 inches to make it fit on the ground pole at the right height.  Just have to rustle myself up a hacksaw somewhere.  I like the fresh smell of clothes dried outside.

Highlight of my day turned out to be….The Polar Express. Between puttering's I climbed into my recliner, retrieved the TV remote, & blundered my way through a few channels. Came across the movie, ‘Polar Express’ with Tom Hanks. Had never seen this movie. It’s extremely rare for me to sit through a whole movie on TV but sit through Polar Express I did.  My kind of ‘feeling good’ movie & I loved the imagination, the animation, the creativity, the special effects, the story, the music, the magic, & well, just everything. Oh how I would loved to have seen this movie in a movie theater with a big screen & big sound. I like when a movie appeals to the young boy in me & I especially like when it happens at Christmas time:))

GROANER’S CORNER:((  A man is flying in a hot air balloon and realizes he is lost. He reduces height and spots a man down below. He lowers the balloon further and shouts:  "Excuse me, can you tell me where I am?" The man below says: "Yes. You're in a hot air balloon, hovering 30 feet above this field." "You must work in Information Technology" says the balloonist. "I do" replies the man. "How did you know?" "Well" says the balloonist, "Everything you have told me is technically correct, but it's no use to anyone." The man below says, "You must work in business." "I do" replies the balloonist, "but how did you know?" "Well," says the man, "You don't know where you are, or where you're going, but you expect me to be able to help. You're in the same position you were before we met, but now it's my fault."

  1. You sure 14 inches is enough? Looks way taller than that.
Fantastic job catching a high flyer and moon in the same shot.
I was wandering about you walking through the cactus in the dark, sounds painful.

  5. I think the pathways are a good idea, it may look bare now, but I am sure you will find something to fill in the spaces.

  7. For garden pathways, this might help ... my best human factors story is about a guy who built two office towers, and planted a lawn around both of them. Four months later, he came back and put the connecting sidewalks/pavements wherever he found paths trodden into the lawn.

  9. I have an outside clothesline just like Kelly's and I love it. Dollar Store has a great clothes pin bag that actually stays on the clothes line no matter how strong the wind, for a $1 !!! I love sheets hung on the line! Only takes an hour or so to dry out here in the SW, in Florida it would take all day! I love the desert SouthWest!

  10. Personally I like "Unknown's" idea! Meandering paths where people want to walk. Let nature (human nature, in this case) take its own course. As for desert broom, our landscape committee in this park has declared it not welcome because of severe allergy problems. Love Polar Express, watch it every year at this time.

  11. Natural is my vote, probably because it is less work, either way will look nice I am sure.

  12. I like the paths, seems as though those paths are a big part of setting the feeling of a garden, especially if they lead the eye to something like a bench, or garden art or something. The paths are part of the art I think. IMHO

  13. Wood burning fireplaces need to be cleaned once a year. I would get a good chimneysweep in and have it cleaned as creosote builds up in them and can cause a chimney fire and you wouldn't want that.

We have a wood burning fireplace that you have to build the fire in as there isn't gas pipe to get it started. I love a good fire, but unfortunatly our house has shifted and the possibilities of there being cracks in the flue are high.
