NOT WHAT I WOULD CALL MY MOST PRODUCTIVE SATURDAY

DSC_0026

Aside from some soreness at the incision site most of the day, all feels well. Our weather has heated up again & we are back into heavier humid air. Some folks may like this stuff but I am not one of them. And, with no A/C in the Jeep it's just too hot for Pheebs & I to do any Jeeping. Needless to say, me & the furry little Peachy Princess stayed inside & pretty darn close to our cool house air.  Kelly worked today.  Summer Saturdays are always her busiest times over at DEER PARK LODGE.

I figure we are at the half way point now for our summer months at home. 'Hoping' to have the big wheels pointed for the southwest in 3 months from about right now.

Despite Kelly's best efforts & spending a fair bit of time on the problem, we have all but given up on getting our Sitemeter counter working properly again. Maybe a problem with our service provider, Sitemeter itself, or maybe our account has been hacked.   It had worked perfectly fine since 2007. We have had no response from Sitemeter & it seems everyone else's Sitemeter program is working fine.  {Update} Just before publishing this tonight I noticed the counter has started working again….but I’m not confident now it will stay working.  Maybe I should just dispense with the whole counter thing & be done with it.

For me, a good night's sleep has been an elusive thing for many years. Had talked this over with my Nurse Practitioner a couple summer's ago & she suggested a few things like changing my coffee habit etc because I did not want to go the sleeping pill route. Did all she recommended but a decent night's sleep was still not forthcoming. Out of sheer desperation about 6 weeks ago I finally agreed to try a mild sleeping pill at night & for the first time in recent memory I have actually been able to get a good 4 or 5 hours back to back sleep. As long as I remember to take the sleeping pill that is. Last night I forgot, so today was a snoozy exercise in keeping myself semi-upright & conscious.

Sue out there at THE MOHO & OTHER TRAVELING TALES has some nicely impressive fireworks photos in her latest post along with a fine Pelican header picture.  Also liked her thoughts on ‘blogging from the heart’:))  And Laurie from SEMI-TRUE TALES OF OUR LIFE ON THE ROAD pays a final tribute to her recently departed Dad & winds her blog down to the end of a mighty fine blogging era.  Laurie was out here when I started my blog about 5 years ago & she was helpful in getting me up on my blogging feet.  All the best to you & Odel:))

GROANER'S CORNER:(( Two 'good old boys' were working for the city public works department. One would dig a hole and the other would follow behind him and fill the hole in. They worked up one side of the street, then down the other, then moved on to the next street, working furiously all day without rest, one man digging a hole, the other filling it in again.
An onlooker was amazed at their hard work, but couldn't understand what they were doing. So he asked the hole digger, 'I'm impressed by the effort you two are putting in to your work, but I don't get it -- why do you dig a hole, only to have your partner follow behind and fill it up again?'
The hole digger wiped his brow and sighed, 'Well, I suppose it probably looks odd because we're normally a three-person team. But today the guy who plants the trees called in sick.'

  1. Glad to see you are feeling ok from the surgery. I am sure pheebs enjoyed the a/c as much as you did. It has been mighty warm here also hoping for a cooler day tomorrow as we have to get the lawns mowed. Take care!

  2. We've been very happy to have central a/c here as we have been a bit smoked in for wildfires burning in northern Alberta.
I love the hot weather but not the humidity that comes with it...yuck!

  3. I've figured out that the dogs are a big part of my not sleeping problem. I'm a mover at night and with them making me a sandwich I can't move so I wake up. And they can't sleep through the night, they just have to get up and shake their ears, or they get hot or cold and have to climb under or out from under the covers. All of that wakes me up. Amazing since I can sleep through highway traffic and trains without a problem. But they are worth it.

  4. ahh, sleep, sweet sleep. The animals wake me up around 4:30, but if I get a few hours uninterrupted it is a good night. Glad you aren't hurting too much. I am amazed that your hollyhocks are so tall there, so that heat and humidity must be good for something at least. Mine are about 2 feet tall so far. Thanks for the shout out, Al, and the kinds words!

  6. I can sure identify with the sleep thing. It's now been over two months since I've been able to sleep on my side, and I'm a side sleeper. I also have to sleep propped half up on my back. I'm lucky if I get 6 hours a night.

But the dogs all sleep like babies. :)

The hollyhocks photo is a blue ribbon winner for sure!

  7. Nice that you got a good sleep you need to get a good rest. It took me a few years after retiring to finally get a full nights sleep.
Love the farm pictures, looks like all the activity going on around here. I was asked not to take too many pictures of it.
I really enjoy this heat and its a good thing as we only have a 15 amp hookup here and can't use our ac. But we are in the shade with a nice breeze.

  8. I try to sleep between train horns, but usually am awake many times a night pulling my pillow over my ears...
