OUR DOGGY SLEEP OVER WENT WELL:))

IMG_3142

PHEEBS & GUINNESS LOVE PLAYING & ROUGH HOUSING TOGETHER

As kids we sometimes played a game called, 'musical chairs'.  Last night at our house it was a game I would call 'musical dogs’ as the guys continually moved from one sleeping spot to another.  I stayed put in my recliner beside our patio door as a doorman for the night in case anyone had to go out.  Sometimes I'd wake up & see Stella on the couch, awhile later maybe Pheebs was on the couch & even little Guinness made it up there for bit as well.  When Kelly got up this morning Stella was on my bed, Pheebs was on the couch & Guinness was on my lap.  Half an hour before that, Pheebs was on my lap & Guinness was on the floor beside my chair & nobody was on the couch.  Who knows where Stella was.  Awwww, what a great night:))

AND A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL

Kelly headed into work this morning around 10 & took the two doggy Munchkins with her.  They have their own fenced in back yard just off the office at Deer Park Lodge.  When she came home late this afternoon the Munchkins came back with her so we had another big round of play time until Stella & Guinness’s Mom & Dad came to pick them up about 7.   Sure was nice having the Bums here for the time we did.  I believe it is great for a single dog to have a companion & that was always evident when we had Max, Checkers, & Motor.  Watching them all interact together brought us so much joy over the years.  I think if circumstances line up right we just might end up getting ourselves one more little Bayfield Bunch Pal at some point.  Nothing definite yet.

I DON’T THINK LITTLE GUINNESS IS GOING TO BE SO LITTLE FOR TOO MUCH LONGER
And, I too thought Burnese was incorrectly spelled & should have an 'm' as in Burmese but a quick check on the internet confirms Burmese in this case is spelled with a 'n' making little Guinness a true BURNESE MOUNTAIN DOG.  I have never seen paws so large on a dog only 3 months old.  Pheebs & Guinness get along great & love playing together but Stella was kinda being a Granny Grumps about it all sometimes.  She is very protective of her little Brother, Guinness.

DEER PARK LODGE’S NEW WATERFALL POND IS COMING ALONG NICELY

Deer Park Lodge is hosting a big wedding this week-end.  They have had a couple previous weddings there but this one is a biggy with a first ever large tent for the festivities.  The tent is set up in Deer Park’s main area but the Bride & Groom are hoping to be married on the beach below. (weather permitting)  I slipped over to Deer Park this afternoon & took a few photos of the big tent where the reception will be held.  I may slide over there again on Saturday & grab some candid photos for Deer Park’s files & archives.  Deer Park also has a live beach cam so I’ll post that site & wedding time tomorrow in case anyone wants to have a look in at a beach wedding on Saturday:))DSC_0021-001

THIS TENT COMES COMPLETE WITH IT’S OWN CATERER’S ROOM, LIGHTING, HEATING, TABLES, CHAIRS, BAR ,& WOODEN DANCE FLOOR

Kelly sure had her hands full when I was there.  The Johnny-On-The-Spot guys arrived with truck & trailer the same time as a large stake truck arrived to pick up laundry.  Not a lot of free space for big trucks at Deer Park so there was a bit of shuffling around between vehicles.  Add to that another stake truck in dropping off ice plus a major water leak being repaired at one of the cottages with a tractor.  Saturday’s bride, sister & Mother were also there busily setting up in the tent while Stella & Guinness were racing around in the office chewing up brochures.  Amidst all this Kelly is fielding phone call after phone call & when the portable toilet guys plugged their unit into electricity it tripped some of the breakers for the cottages.  Luckily, Kelly stays calm under all pressure situations & just multi-tasks her way from one thing to another.  The electrical problem will be resolved Friday.  Oh, & you may wonder why a port-a-potty needs electric.  Well, this His & Hers unit is pretty spiffy & it’s no ordinary construction site model.  It is a double washroom on wheels & has hot running water & a sink, along with hardwood floors, electric ventilation fans, lights, wallpaper & wood trim.  Looks to be normal household toilets as well.  First time I had ever seen one like this.

GROANER’S CORNER:((  Several years ago, Andy was sentenced to prison. During his stay, he got along well with the guards and all his fellow inmates. The warden saw that deep down, Andy was a good person and made arrangements for Andy to learn a trade while doing his time. After three years, Andy was recognized as one of the best carpenters in the local area. Often he would be given a weekend pass to do odd jobs for the citizens of the community.... and he always reported back to prison before Sunday night was over.
The warden was thinking of remodelling his kitchen and in fact had done much of the work himself. But he lacked the skills to build a set of kitchen cupboards and a large counter top which he had promised his wife. So he called Andy into his office and asked him to complete the job for him.
But, alas, Andy refused. He told the warden, "Gosh, I'd really like to help you but counter fitting is what got me into prison in the first place".

  2. Probably a poor first comment; I don't "follow" the blogs I read actually, because I teach high school science full time. My blogs are assignments for my students. At any rate, I have been reading your blog for a year or so, and hope to full time in about 3 years. Anyway, the point was:
I used to own and show Bernese Mountain Dogs. The Bern refers to Bern Switzerland. http://www.akc.org/breeds/bernese_mountain_dog/

  6. Our daughter's neighbors have two of the Burnese Mt. Dogs... very pretty!! Always loved that breed after seeing Nanna in Peter Pan, who was one I think.

That sure is one fancy outhouse!

  8. it will be interesting to see the Deer Park Cam. When my daughter was in New York my son arranged to have her show up looking at the camera in Times Square at a certain time...and there she was...a photograph to be saved forever!!!!

  9. Beautiful pups. Reminds me of my house. Aside from my kids' dogs who are regular visitors, my daughter volunteers me to "dog sit" for the people she works with at the hospital. They refer to my house as "the dog spa", and that's true. I've lost count with the number of dog beds scattered about. Some I store in the basement and bring up for extra visitors. They all get along, but you're right--it's like musical dogs.

I give Kelly credit to stay cool under such pressure.

I love the Box Canyon Blog and read it all the time. He has left me pondering many a day/night.

I enjoy your blog, as always, Al. Take care and say hi to Kelly.

  10. BERNISE not BURNESE. The dog is a Bernice Mountain Dog and does not originate from Burma but from Switzerland and the area Bern, which is a town. You guest dogs are super cute together with Pheebe. I'd love to have a guy like Guiness around. And your pics of them are very good too.
