ELEPHANT IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD

ON OUR WALK TONIGHT I SPOTTED THIS SINGLE MONARCH BUTTERFLY IN A PATCH OF WILD PHLOX
Aside from some shrub trimming & Motorhome window cleaning I had another one of those rather lack lustre days.  When it started to rain Sunday I rolled the Motorcycle out of the carport to let the rain water wash the yellow Pine pollen off.  Minutes later the rain stopped leaving the bike in a worse looking mess than when it had an evenly distributed dusting of pollen on it.  Our water here is so chlorinated that to wash anything just leaves it coated in white spots.  Hosed down the bike anyway & took it for a quick run around the country block to dry if off.  Back home, a quick wipe with ‘The Solution’ & all was shiny new again.

RAIN DROPS MIXED WITH PINE POLLEN MADE QUITE A MESS
Now that the bulk of medical stuff is out of the way I am a little hard pressed for Blog fodder.  Oh Gee, really.  That stuff might have got a little tiring for some folks after a bit but it did give me some material for awhile & it did help to keep me interested & wile away some hours.  But, not to worry, I am not going to go outside & drop a big rock on my foot just to head off to the Hospital again!!

KELLY SPOTTED THIS ELEPHANT IN THE WOODS ABOUT A MILE FROM OUR PLACE MONDAY & STOPPED TO TAKE A PHOTO OF IT

And, to answer JUDY'S question.  Yes, my header photo is from my files.  In fact, my previous header photo was a file photo as well.  Sometimes I use a current photo & sometimes I do not.  When not traveling, I have a tendency to rely more on my file photos.  Andrea questioned why I wouldn't read at night.  I question that too.  I have posted before about my love of reading when I was younger & the large numbers of books I devoured over those years.  Nowadays, for some unknown reason,  I have to get myself into 'reading mode' & have noticed a tendency to do that more when we are traveling.  Right now I have 3 unread books sitting on a table near the computer patiently waiting for me to get myself into the reading groove.  Gotta work harder at getting my Perusing Mojo working again.

<<< REFLECTIONS IN AN OUTSIDE MIRROR
Here is a great music site.  SONGS TUBE  Lots of old memories.  Click on any Artist, click on any song & ‘Daddy let your mind roll on’.  Some of you may remember that line from ‘Walk Right In’ by The Rooftop Singers in the early 60’s.  I do.  This site also plays YouTube film footage of past concerts along with the songs as well as gives you lyrics.  Remember those good old music days when singers & musicians had to have that real raw talent to make them the great legends & icons we all so fondly remember today.  Remember how each singer had their own distinctive voice & each group their own instantly recognizable sound.  Kinda like the old far out car designs of the mid to late 50’s right up into the late 60’s.  You could tell a Ford from a Chev from a Plymouth a mile down the road.  A singer or group was easily discernable with their own style right from the opening bars of any tune.  I don’t think the word generic had been thought of yet but the word sure sums up many of today’s car designs & music sounds.

RON, OUR FRIENDLY PARK MAINTENANCE GUY STOPS BY TO REPLACE A BULB IN OUR OUTSIDE DRIVEWAY LIGHT THIS AFTERNOON…SAME FELLOW & MACHINE WHO RESCUED ME OFF OUR CARPORT ROOF A YEAR AGO THIS MONTH
Think I have figured out why Momma & Poppa Goose left the pond in such a hurry a week & a half ago.  Pheebs & I spotted a big Snapping Turtle on the far bank Monday.  Those Snappers will come up from underneath & snatch small baby Geese & pull them under.  No Snappers tonight but we did see a Monarch Butterfly & of course Pheebs met up with her newest best Pal Dexter on the trail.

GROANER’S CORNER:((  A US Border Patrol Agent catches an illegal alien in the bushes right by the border fence, he pulls him out and says "Sorry, you know the law, you've got to go back across the border right now."
The Mexican man pleads with them, "No, noooo Senior, I must stay in de USA! Pleeeze!"
The Border Patrol Agent thinks to himself, I'm going to make it hard for him and says "Ok, I'll let you stay if you can use 3 English words in a sentence".
The Mexican man of course agrees.
The Border Patrol Agent tells him, "The 3 words are: Green, Pink and Yellow. Now use them in 1 sentence."
The Mexican man thinks really hard for about 2 minutes, then says, "Hmmm, Ok. The phone, it went Green, Green, Green, I Pink it up and sez Yellow?"

  1. I'm a voracious reader too, but as I get older it's difficult to get the proper light for reading, and of course the font usually isn't large enough. When I check out a large print book from the library I can really tell the difference.

  3. I'm the same way about reading, I need to be in a sorta relaxed mode with nothing else much to do. Used to read a lot but not so much anymore.

    The butterfly photos are awesome!

  5. I like that mirror picture. Pheebs seems to be able to make friends wherever she goes.

I looked at that music site but wish they had some even older songs. It's hard for me to think of the 80s as "oldies" haha. Guess I'm telling my age.

  6. Loved the pictures of the Flutter Byes. They are one good reason to go to AZ so we can see the migration.

  7. I don't know if this tops and elephant, but it sure surprised me! http://travelswithmrnimble.blogspot.com/2010/08/where-is-jack-day-127_17.html

Love the pictures of Pheebs. Would a snapping turtle grab her foot if she gets too close. I love the way she makes friends. What a great pup, Al.

Glad you're feeling better. I love to read, but it seems lately, I pick up (my Kindle, now) and fall asleep. Whenever I can't sleep at night, reading is my answer. I love to read sitting by a campsite--don't fall asleep, then.

  8. I often look out the window looking for elephants, but so far haven't seen any :) I hear bigfoot from time to time however.

  9. I still read a lot of books. But I go in spurts. When we're moving, I read less because I'm just so happy to be on the road.

  12. You just never know when you will be stalked by an Elephant here in Ontario, I wonder was it a Canadian Elephant? We to read a lot more in Arizona, fresh air, warm and no bugs a great excuse to relax outside.

  13. Have to agree with you about music artists. Being married to a cowboy we listen to a lot of country and western around here. There is a female artist (won't name names) whose voice grates on my nerves--wonder who told that girl she could sing--her songs are at the top of the charts?????

  14. I would love to walk with you and study your photography techniques. I don't feel like my day is complete if I haven't read your blog and viewed the beautiful photographs you've posted.

Your reflecting mirror photograph is gorgeous !!!

  15. We loaded all our CD's on I-Tunes, and when we travel, we hook that to our surround sound and have an instant concert!
