OUR TRIP TO THE VET WENT WELL BUT THE MOTORMOUSE GETS A CASE OF THE SHAKES

DSC_3575

It has been well over a year since I cut my 4 coffee's a day down to 2 with both being morning coffees & nothing after 11 a.m.  And, the second one of those two morning coffee's is decaffeinated.  That coffee cut was suggested by my Doctor in response to me mentioning about my  sleeping difficulty.  Seemed to work for awhile but it still has been many years since I can remember ever having a good night's sleep.  Lately I have sometimes been starting my days as early as 3 a.m. & by noon I am a total Zombie for the rest of the day.  Not good!!

SAFELY BACK ON THE BEACH

Our trip to the Vet went off without a hitch this morning.  Pheebe was a brave girl as her stitches were removed.  No problem with the tummy stiches but the dew claw stitches caused her to flinch a bit.  Only took a few minutes & she was done & bouncing around happy as ever.  Next, it was Motor's turn to get her nails clipped.  Kelly held her tight as the Vet technician snipped away.  The little Mouse was shaking like a leaf and by the look on her face you would have thought her nails were being pulled out & not clipped.

“OH SAVE ME MOM, SAVE ME”

Thanks to folks for sending in some travel destinations for the Bayfield Bunch.  Some good ideas there & we have put those suggestions into our 2011/2012 travel pot.  I will be soooooo glad to put this long hot summer behind me and get back on the road once again heading for more unknown new adventures and destinations.  Sitting in one spot for months at a time is fine.......if your a stone!!

Managed to scrape together enough energy this afternoon to take Pheebs for a walk around the trail and for the first time in nearly 9 years on that trail I actually sat down under a tree for a few minutes waiting for my batteries to recharge.  No battery recharge for the Speedball though.  She just goes and goes and goes.  I probably ran out of energy from just trying to keep my eyes on the furry speeding bullet racing up and down the trail.

JUDY identified the bird in my post last night as a Double-Crested Cormorant.  I, in turn, mistakenly typed in Double Breasted Cormorant.  D’ya suppose my mind was maybe not on it’s work.  Thanks to Ed for pointing out my error and I have since corrected it.

AN EARLY SIGN OF AUTUMN
Nice feeling knowing we will be traveling on basically all new tires this year with our rig.  We replaced the two front tires before leaving last November & on the way home in March we replaced all 4 rear tires on the coach in Kingman Arizona.  They were just looking too bad to drive any further.  I remember someone saying years ago about good tires being the cheapest insurance one can buy.  We put all new tires on the Jeep last summer as well and as I recall, the Santa Fe got all new rubber in the Spring of 2010 too.  Whewwww, that was a lot of rubber in one year!!

DSC_3355GROANER'S CORNER:((  Doing a good deed......
A fellow finds himself in front of the Pearly Gates. St. Peter explains that its not so easy to get in heaven. There are some criteria before entry is allowed.
For example, was the man religious in life? Attend church? No? St. Peter told him that's bad.
Was he generous? give money to the poor? Charities? No? St. Peter told him that that too was bad.
Did he do any good deeds? Help his neighbour? Anything? No? St. Peter was becoming concerned.
Exasperated, Peter says, "Look, everybody does something nice sometime. Work with me, I'm trying to help. Now think!"
The man says, "There was this old lady. I came out of a store and found her surrounded by a dozen Hell's Angels. They had taken her purse and were shoving her around, taunting and abusing her.
I got so mad I threw my bags down, fought through the crowd, and got her purse back. I then helped her to her feet. I then went up to the biggest, baddest biker and told him how despicable, cowardly and mean he was and then spat in his face".
"Wow", said Peter, "That's impressive. When did this happen"?
"Oh, about 10 minutes ago", replied the man.

  2. Still laughing over the double-breasted cormorant. I wonder how many folks didn't catch it - I surely didn't.

  3. I've had many sleepless hours in the last month. I just can't get my mind to turn off! I toss and turn and sometimes see the wee hours on the clock.

I'm hoping once we get the new coach home and parked for the first time I will rest easier.

For now I go back and forth between excitement and fear that we were foolish to do this.

  4. Sometimes it is easier for the vet to clip the nails when you hold Motormouse like Kelly did. The vet will just have to work around motor's positions.
    Glad Pheebe had no issues!

  5. Poor little Motormouse. Getting those nails clipped is such a traumatic experience. She looks so scared. And I loved your comment about sitting like a stone. That's how I've felt all summer.

  6. The leaves are definitely starting to change color. That is one of my favorite things about autumn.

Poor little Motor Mouse does look distraught. Don't you wish you could make them understand that it's going to be okay?

Al, maybe it's time for a good check-up before you hit the road?? You don't want to be off your game while you're traveling. Take care.

  7. Poor Cora..I feel her fear of the Doc...me too! As for sleepless nights..a few hints..DON'T get out of bed at 3AM..DON'T turn on the radio or TV either..Hey, at least you don't have the BNSF trains from 3AM on...I put the pillow over my head..(I'm sure Dennis would like to keep it that way):-)

  9. My husband had problems sleeping too. Since we have Roxy we take long walks and with time he came to run with her. He now goes around on his bycicle as well. Since then he sleeps much better. So now that you have Pheebs maybe you will exercice more and sleep better!

  10. Hello Al & Kelly,
I have a suggestion for you the Wupatki National Monument, this is North of Sunset Crator in Northern AZ. I have just done some incredible reading about these ruins, and kick myself (and hubby) for us not ever going there when we lived in AZ. Would be great to this this little known treasure through your words and eyes.

  12. Kelly did a good job comforting the Motormouse. Good idea about the checkup -- you guys like to do a lot of hiking, so you need to be in tiptop shape. Tires? Know the feeling -- a few years ago we got new tires for the motorhome, and the tech pointed out that our car tires were also in bad shape (I checked, and yes, they were!), so we dropped a couple of bucks all at once!

  13. Hey Al, Try taking Benedryl! It works like a charm....

  14. Motormouse looks and acts just like our Rusty when in the vet's office. Shakes like a leaf, and can't wait to get out, no matter what's going on!

Now, about that cormorant...I just thought it might be pretty good to eat...what with being double breasted and all.
