LEXI....A DECISION WAS MADE TODAY

We received the following email late this afternoon which in part says........

Hello,   After meeting both families, the board took both families /situations into consideration. You offer some wonderful things for Lexi and no doubt would enrich any dogs life, however, the board decided to go with the other family.

Lexi absolutely fell in love with the dog the other family had. The two of them bonded right away. She took to him immediately. He submitted to her allowed her to heard him and anywhere she went he followed. If he went another direction she would go get him he would come right back with her. He played nicely with her they romped together and rolled on the ground acting all silly having a good time. Lots of tail wagging and doggie grins.

After seeing this it only makes sense to let her to to this family. It was almost like she chose them. She chose her friend and new pal. Animal Love strongly believes in also taking what the dog wants into consideration as well as what the homes have to offer. In this situation Lexi and the other dog spoke volumes with their instant like towards one another. It was an amazing thing to see so much love between them.

It is very quiet at our house tonight.

  1. Sorry. But you do know she will be in a home with a family and not sent to some public shelter. She has been "rescued."

There is another wonderful dog out there just waiting to become part of the Bayfield bunch.

The quest will go on, and will b successful.

  2. Lets hope she will be really happy with her new family and that you will find just the right fit pup soon:)

  3. Al and Kelly, we are so sorry you couldn't have Lexi, we know how disapointed you must be. I know the animal rescue group are doing what they think is best for the dog, but it sucks all the same.

  4. I am really sorry things didn't work out with Lexi, but the perfect dog for you (and you being perfect for the dog) is still out there waiting for you.

  5. I am sorry for you and Kelly, but the "Dog Gods" know better than us.
You will find your new baby when the time is right, and I know that is the cliche, but I do believe it.
God Bless to you and Kelly :)

  6. I know you guys must be very disappointed. But you will find one, just keep looking. For us, it will be Jackson who makes the final decision. If he decides this is the one for him, then it will be.

  7. Sooo sorry! What else needs to be said.

  8. OUCH !! I know it still hurts like "heck". I do believe that there is a special dog out there for you and Kelly. Keep looking up because you WILL find that dog/companion!
Our thoughts are with you and Kelly.

  9. I am so sorry to hear that she didn't choose you, but take heart, she is happy which is the most important thing.
She would have loved her home with you as well, all the love that you have can now go to another dog down the road.
Keep your eyes open, your new best friend is waiting around the corner.

  10. Sorry to hear that you missed out on getting Lexi, Al. I understand the disappointment as we were on the other side of this selection process with the Akita we bought in 1995.

We had just lost an Akita that we’d had for 10 years. We found a nearby breeder that had a litter that would be available in a couple of weeks. We were the last to get a pick so would get the one on one else wanted. We saw the pups about a week before the pick-up date and one bonded with our 7 year-old son immediately.

The next week, when we went to pick up the pup, there was one guy who really wanted the one we wanted. We couldn’t say anything since he was ahead of us. He saw that the pup kept following our son around and crawling into his lap. In the end, he said he couldn’t take the pup away from the boy she wanted to be with. We had her for 13 and half years. She died just before our son went off to Army Basic Training.

You’ll find the one that’s right for you guys!

  11. Sorry about Lexi, but as the email said - a dog will find your family. Maybe a different route - not being in a competition with another family.

  12. That's too bad but there are so many dogs out there that need homes, I'm sure you won't have a problem finding one that fits with the Bayfield Bunch!

  13. I'm glad for Lexi that she had two wonderful options, and that she will have a perfect doggie companion at her new home. And I'm so sad for you three - I know you all fell in love with Lexi.

You and your new pal are moving towards each other; perhaps he/she is very near to you right now. I hope so.

  14. I am sorry Al... I know you were hoping to get Lexi but I am sure there is something better coming along your way...
My thoughts are withyou both tonight... I know just the right dog is in your future!

  15. I'm so sorry Lexi didn't work for you. It's hard to remember, but this probably happened for a reason. There must be another dog out there who needs you more. If nothing else, I'll bet you can find one when you return to the States (unless there's a problem in Canada bringing one in from the States??).

Having rescued five dogs so far over the years, there are unfortunately more in need than there are folks available to adopt.

  17. OH, our hearts hurt for you tonight. I'm glad Lexi went to a good home, I just wish it could have been yours.

  18. Al/Kelly,
we are so sorry to read that Lexi was not allowed to be with you. We can feel your disappointment every inch of the way.
However, we know that there are many, many more dogs out there who deserve a loving family. So we do hope, no, we are convinced that you will find a new pal for the Bayfield Bunch.

  19. I'm sorry that things didn't work our with Lexi coming to you. I know that there will be another dog that will fit perfectly in The Bayfield Bunch and whenever that dog appears, you will all know it's meant to be.

Sad time for sure, but keep Cora thinking about burritos to take her mind off of it.

  20. Al and Kelly, I am so sorry things didn't work out with Lexi. I know there is a special friend out there just waiting to be found by you.

  21. Al, please know that somewhere out there your new Pal is waiting for your paths to cross. That's how we feel about Maggie; the three of us are meant to be together . . . it just took a bit of time. The three of you WILL find each other. Please keep that ember burning as you go through this waiting period. Have you tried a shelter and not an "agency"?

  22. Keep you chin up Al... it is good to know Lexi is going to a good home. Your time will come!

  23. We are so, so sorry. A big disappointment. Suspect Lexi is a very high energy gal. Perhaps not the best buddy for a laid back little girl like Cora. It can be so annoying to be herded around the house. The perfect companion is out there waiting for you, Kelli and Cora. We're thinking good thoughts that you find that new buddy soon.

  24. I agree with all the other comments...And let me add that there is a dog somewhere who needs you but its not just time yet. That perfect friend who needs so very much to be rescued by your family is counting the days just as much as your are. Time will come and you will be happy you waited for him or her.

Lexi found the family she was wainting for, she is happy. Yours is there somewere.

  25. Sorry it did not work out with Lexi -- I am sure you will find a new furry friend to join you soon tho'!! Totally enjoyed your hay and barn photo on the previous blog!! Take care and give Cora extra hugs! -- Martha

  26. All is not lost. There are a billion dogs out there that need a good home.

  27. Well that's the pitts! Like everyone has said there are more dogs out there that need good homes, but that don't help a bit if you had your heart set. Just gotta carry on carring on and the right doggie pall will find you.....

  28. So sorry the 3 of you weren't chosen to be Lexi new parents, we all can feel your disappointment. The perfect dog will come out of know where when you least expect it, it may just take a little longer than you want it to.

    Keep positive!!!

  29. as hard as it was to hear the news that 'Lexi' picked the other family..it sounds like it was a good 'fit'!..your new 'bunch member' is out there just waiting for you!..keep on looking..we all know there are a whole lot of dogs out there in need of a new 'forever home'..

    ReplyDelete
  30. I will also add my 'so sorry' to the above list..I know you fell in love with Lexi...everything happens for a reason...my heart hurts for you Kelly and cora..how disappointing for you all.

For over 20 years Rick and I bred showed and raised golden retrievers. Being breeders, we of course belonged to many different clubs. We also became rescuers for many organizations. I know how hard it was for the board to choose the other family over you...I have been there. But I also know that whatever is meant to be will be. And there is a reason for it all.

There is a very special dog out there somewhere, just waiting to become a big part of the Bayfield Herd...you will find that very special little furkid, and wonder how you ever lived without her...its just a matter of time....just as I know she will have a wonderful 'forever' home with your bunch.

Hang in there...your special angel is just around the corner....

    gentle hugs to you all
    Elaine

  31. So sorry you weren't chosen to have Lexie. Still, it sounds like she's going to a good home.

Have you tried strolling through the local rescue operations? Or paying a visit to PetSmart on adoption day?? My son & DIL walked in to a PetSmart to get some stuff for their current three dogs and instantly bonded with a rescued Miniature Schnauzer and he went home with them. A month or so later they lost one of their Chocolate Labs, so it was like it was meant to be. If you are open to the dogs who need homes you and the right one will find each other. I hope you give dogs other than Border Collies a chance. You might be surprised who your next best pal is.

  32. Not at all what we wanted to hear and we are so sorry. We can understand how very disappointed you must both be feeling.
Don't give up, your new little fur friend is out there and it will happen.
Time for a burrito run with the mouse.

  35. Hey Al, Kelly and Cora,

Didn't expect that post. Glad Lexi found her family but sad your family was not her choice. On the bright side, Lexi and your future dog will be spared being caged up til their family finds them.
    Happy hunting.

  36. I don't know whether my comment got lost in the shuffle or you chose not to use it.

I'm sorry for your disappointment, Al, but I'm happy for Lexi. I'm even happier for another dog you haven't met, yet!

The right pup is still out there, and may need you more than Lexi.

  37. Hi Al and Kelly, so sorry that you didn't get Lexi - but I don't understand why you must limit your search to these "rescue agencies" - there are so many beautiful and loving dogs at your local animal shelter who are probably scheduled to be euthanized TODAY - and they don't have any options of chosing between several families - they don't have ANY options - I know you want a border collie because of their sweet nature and you are familiar with that breed - but if you went to the animal shelter and looked into the eyes of a dog that is scheduled for certain death - maybe you could be its angel and maybe that dog is meant to be your angel too - My heart goes out to you & I know you are sad about Lexi but I'm sure Max and Checkers will guide you where you need to be. Best Wishes and Happy Trails - Cindy L

  38. Al and Kelly, all we can say is amen to what the rest have said. Lexi seemed to liike you guys as much as you liked her, so it's not a rejection. You guys were part of the process of finding her a new home, and you'll think of her fondly for quite a while.

  39. Dad Gum it,,,I am so sorry, there must be a reason for this and someday you will know that reason! But right now I know your disapointed and sad,,,I'm sad with ya.....Things will look up...soon and be OK!!

  40. I'm sure they made the right decision for Lexie, but that doesn't make it any easier for you guys, and I'm sorry.
I have to tell you, my Dad dog-sat for my sister last month, whose dog also is a herder. That dog herded my Dad's sweet little Chihuahua the entire time she was there, three weeks. My dad's dog couldn't even get into the bedroom or outside if the other dog wouldn't allow it. You might be better off in the long run with another dog, and little Cora will probably be happier.
