Aside from Kelly & I slipping down to see my Uncle Harry in Mitchell this morning it has been a quiet day.

RUGGED TERRAIN HERE IN THE CHIRICAHUA MOUNTAINS

In a Facebook update from Rosanna on the Chiricahua fire. She says, “ I've had lots of emails asking about our Chiricahua fire: as of today it is 90% contained!! :)))))) It has eaten up 223,214 acres --all of the Chiricahua Wilderness including the Monument; some ranch lands, some private lands, some BLM lands and costing taxpayers over $46 million so far :((((((( . What an experience this has been!! Now we shall watch and help and love it back to health.”

I AM SURE HOPING WHAT YOU SEE IN THE ABOVE PHOTOS OF THE CHIRICAHUA NATIONAL MONUMENT IS NOT ALL BURNED TO THE GROUND NOW

I sent a message back to Rosanna asking about the Faraway Ranch & Visitor's Center.  Also asked if she had heard anything about the buildings at old Fort Rucker.  Rosanna messaged back saying, "ALL of those buildings made it -- the wonderful firefighters wrapped the buildings in special "stuff" to keep them from burning!!! AMAZING and wonderful!!! 3 cabins lost in Turkey Creek; 3 lost in Whitetail Cyn. 3 at Rustler Park; 14 outbuildings in those same areas lost. Really incredible considering the "hugeness" of this fire!"

THE FARAWAY RANCH IS LOCATED WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF THE CHIRICAHUA NATIONAL MONUMENT...SO GLAD TO HEAR THESE BUILDINGS WERE SPARED FROM THE FIRE

The Chiricahua fire is different from the one in the Huachuca Mountains to the west called the Monument fire. Firefighters have now established a fire line to try & stop the fire from entering into an area known far & wide for it’s wonderful summer bird population. Ramsey Canyon is now in peril!!  Just heard on the 6 o'clock news a few minutes ago the Monument fire is now about 60% contained.

I BELIEVE THIS BIRD TO BE A MEXICAN JAY

GROANER'S CORNER:((  A man was telling his neighbor, 'I just bought a new hearing aid. It cost me four thousand dollars, but it is state of the art. It's perfect.'
'Really,' answered the neighbor. 'What kind is it?'
'Twelve thirty.'

  1. I hope the fires will be 100% contained soon. I was just looking at your pictures of Bryce Canyon from 2007. There is a show on tv right now called Canadian Pickers, and they are in Bayfield at someone named Phil's house. He has a lot of stuff he's collected over the years.

  2. My heart goes out to all affected by this fire. I saw on the news tonight that two firefighters died when the fire changed direction...So sad.
Wish I knew a rain dance...

  4. I am so grateful that they have made some progress on the fires. If only the winds would stay down for a couple more days they might be able to win the battle.

  6. As devastating as the fire has been, there are probably some areas that will benefit from it. Nature has a way of healing the earth and bringing new life. I think that's the only way to make any sense out of it.

  8. I have been following your blog since sometime last winter when you were in Arizona. Great writting and photos.

Don't you use your motorhome during your stay in Canada? Seems to me a trip away from home might help with the blog writting.
