A CONSTRUCTIVELY BUSY DAY WITH SOME TREE PLANTING THROWN IN

DSC_3804

WHAT.....YOU WERE MAYBE EXPECTING ANOTHER BIRD PHOTO!!

How nice to open the door to warm air this morning.  That was enough to haul me out of the house right quick in full blown constructive yard work mode.

First on my list before getting to the gardens was the Motor Home washroom.  It was in need of a good clean up so I got right at it.  I’m a good little cleaner if I put my mind to it.  Next came the lawn & I had that mowed in no time with our good old fashioned quiet push mower.  After that it was our battery powered weed whacker.  Finishing up with the whacker it was time to put a new edge on more flower beds.
DSC_0001I did the bulk of landscaping on our place the first 4 years we lived here but the last 4 years my interest waned & I kinda lost interest in the property.  They were 4 years of indecision because we went through a period of trying to decide what we wanted to do.  I was gung-ho on Full Timing 4 years ago & felt we should sell our house & hit the road.   We did put it up for sale in August of 08 but a couple months later the bottom fell out of the financial market & we, like many others, got hit pretty hard.   That immediately changed the playing field for us & we had to back off & reconsider our RVing plans.    Anyone following our blog knows the merry-go-round we have been on.   Anyway, long story short…..now that we have decided to keep our house & stay right where we are I have become re-interested in our property again.

WE ARE SLOWLY GETTING A LITTLE GREENER EACH DAY:))
Hooked up the utility trailer this afternoon & headed for the large forest we have here in the Park.   Dug up 6 Pine trees & 2 Cedars.  And yes, I had permission to do that!!!!  Ron, the Park's maintenance guy brought me another 10 foot Pine in the bucket of the machine he was operating nearby.  Planted a total of 9 trees around the house today & over the next few days I will dig up & plant more trees.  Figure if we’re going to stay here I may as well get cracking on redoing & continuing our landscaping.  We also have some other projects in the works around the house as well.

TOMORROW I INTEND TO REPAINT THAT SILLY CAMOUFLAGE IDEA ON THE TAILGATE.....WHAT WAS I THINKING!!
Now, about my blog last night in which I expressed some honest feelings & concerns about this age & stage of life I am at.  A lot I could say about this but what’s the point.  I did publish one comment, then later deleted it.  When I saw the words ‘moaning & complaining’ show up I couldn't help but take that as a veiled nod in my direction & I just thought to myself, the hell with it, most folks understood exactly what I was talking about & a few people just didn’t get it.  Some people talk about their feelings & some people deny their feelings.   So be it.  Whatever works for ya!!   And, that’s all I have to say about that.  And here you thought I was going to get into one of my loooooooooooooong explanations again.  Well, even I am pleasantly surprised.  Maybe I'm finally learning something here eh:))

GROANER’S CORNER:((    An Old Italian man lived alone in the country. He wanted to dig his tomato garden, but it was very hard work as the ground was hard. His only son, Vincent, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament.
Dear Vincent,
I am feeling pretty badly because it looks like I won't be able to plant my tomato garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. I know if you were here my troubles would be over. I know you would be happy to dig the plot for me.
Love, Dad
A few days later he received a letter from his son.
Dear Dad,
Don't dig up that garden. That's where I buried the bodies.
Love, Vinnie
At 4 a.m. the next morning, FBI agents and local police arrived and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man and left. That same day the old man received another letter from his son.
Dear Dad,
Go ahead and plant the tomatoes now. That's the best I could do under the circumstances.
Love you, Vinnie

  1. Some days we feel younger than we are, and some days we feel older than we are. You have a beautiful lot, you have so many flowering plants already. Not too much blooming here. You seem to have the best of both worlds, a beautiful home in the north and a temporary home in the south, the only drawback is the fuel to move from one place to the other.

  2. Being who we are makes us unique. If we all listened or lived our lives the way people "think" we should, how boring we would be.

No one my age would ever be thinking of full time RVing!!

    Love the frog pics!!!

    Cheers!

  4. You have such a beautiful spot there in Bayfield! It's so green and lush. I, too, am contemplating the future, and just maybe I've come up with a partial solution. :) Of course, I've been here less than a day...

  5. Cool frog!!!
Wherever i am i have to keep improving the land, moving, digging, weeding, planting, building rock walls, whatever, as long as i am there. Isn't that just the way it is?

  6. Al, nice change of pace with the frog photos! I love frogs in the spring....especially in the evening...they sound so "alive".
As a 65 year old guy who shares many of your feelings, I like the sounds of being "alive". As an old golfer friend of mine used to say...."At least we're still on the right side of the grass!"

  8. What a beautiful place you and Kelly have there at Bayfield. I am so glad you are finding peace there. We can so identify with your feelings and appreciate your honesty in expressing them. Thanks!

  11. Yes, at our ages, most of us are giving some creedence to admitting we just aren't what we used to be...It's just as well....If I did now what I did years ago, I'd be in a body cast.:-)

  12. I have always thought being surrounded by trees was great. After living in a house with lots of big trees around it and then all the campgrounds with trees, I am no longer so sure.

All the fall cleanup and the concern about them falling onto the house, I must be getting old :(

  13. For me it's the sadness of seeing RVing friends struck down by serious illness before they are done traveling. Two lady friends are both fighting ovarian cancer, another with serious heart problems that occured within a month of her hubby having a major stroke. Several non-rving friends have died after a battle with cancer.

Folks, life is too short. Life it the way YOU want to...savor every day to the fullest. You don't know what tomorrow will bring.

Al & Kelly, there will be brighter days ahead. I had three deaths in a two week period...it sucks but makes me more determined to enjoy life. Hugs to you both!

  15. I don't think there are any Bloggers in the Portal, AZ area now (too hot!) but there is a huge fire burning there. If you are planning on going there, don't. If you're there, leave:

  16. It is very easy to say that most folks understood what you were trying to say when you simply delete the comments of those who did not understand or may have had a different opinion. Why bother having a comments section if you are going to simply delete comments you don’t happen to like? Probably even this one.

  17. The tones of your latest posts seem to indicate that you are still grieving. Those with tender hearts take a bit longer to recover. The loss of your dogs plus the disappointment of the AZ ranch is a double blow and would make anyone question the future. Your uncle is 95. So, you have longevity in your genes. So, you have many years in front of you yet. Don't contemplate the future~ go and live it.

  18. Completely agree with Donna aka Froggi. Little more need be said.

Your place looks great. So unlike the desert you cherish.
