THIS MORNING WE WERE HAILED ON & BY AFTERNOON IT WAS +70 FAHRENHEIT & SUNNY:))

HAIL STONES BEGIN FALLING FROM THE SKY

The skies darkened this morning as an ominous weather front approached us from the West.  All our outside light sensitive night lights came on & the air became still.  A few raindrops, & then a few more.....a bit heavier.

NOPE, NOT TAPIOCA PUDDING.....HAIL STONES!!

Within minutes we were being pounded by a hail storm!!  We have a steel roof on our place & you can imagine what kind of a noise that sets up inside here.  I could see the pea size hail stones bouncing off our Motor Home out in the driveway.  Normally no problem but with a couple solar panels up there I worry about that.  The hail lasted about 5 minutes & the hailstones did not get bigger than pea size so the panels survived.  Temps dropped so quick we had a slight fog set in briefly.  Good thing we were not further inland where they were clobbered by golf ball size stones in greater volumes.  By mid afternoon our temps reached into the low 70's under sunny skies.  By the way, in my world I still use the Fahrenheit scale & it's still miles for me & not kilometers!!

HAIL STONES  BOUNCING OFF OUR SOLAR PANELS
Some readers may remember back in February when I blogged about Kelly’s rather flamboyant ex Brother-In-Law, Doctor Dave, putting together a reality show about himself down in Manchester Tennessee.  That post is here & the paragraph about DOCTOR DAVE can be found near the end of the post.  Well, here’s the update…. Filming has continued & they premiered the show in a Manchester Theater a couple nights ago.   WHO'S WHO MAGAZINE wrote an article about Doctor Dave and you can see Doctor Dave’s DOC STAR site here.   Now, not being any kind of a reality show fan whatsoever I will have to take a back seat on this one & reserve my judgment.  Just thought maybe some readers out there might be interested.  Kelly’s Son-In-Law, Bradley Shende from Vancouver British Columbia who is associated with CTV out there is involved on the filming production end of things so that side of it does carry some interest for me.  I will keep you updated & it remains to be seen whether any of the major television networks will pick up the series.

People have asked from time to time where I find all the material for Groaner’s Corner.  Well, that’s an easy one to answer because I find that stuff in the exact same location that everybody else finds everything they want to know about anything worth knowing about….the Internet:))  And even if nothing worth knowing about is even worth not knowing about, you can find it anyway, anytime….on the Internet!!

A SLIGHT FOG ROLLED IN & NOTICE THE TOP BROKEN OFF THE PINE TREE IN THE CENTER FROM THE WINTER'S HEAVY SNOWS

Sure looks like some of the Arizona folks are having themselves some mighty bad winter weather down there.  Reader Phil sent me a photo yesterday of Sedona looking like one of those snowy Christmas Cards scenes.  Whitney, near Gleason Arizona was expecting 50 mph winds today with snow & late migrating RV Snow Birds in Mesa Arizona are shivering in the cold.  Bad storms across the Mid West tells us we might just have made it home at the right time after all a few weeks ago.

A LOT OF WATER FELL OUT OF THE SKY THIS MORNING IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME & NO, THAT DOGHOUSE IN THE BACKGROUND IS NOT FOR OUR DOGS, IT'S OCCASIONALLY FOR ME!!

Following our return at the end of March I had mentioned about hustling across the midwest each year on our return because of the unpredictable weather in that part of the States.  RETIRED ROD near Kansas City commented that, “But we live here in the midwest all year where you are so worried about the storms. We haven't had any damage to our homes or vehicles in many many years, so perhaps it is more what you are used to and comfortable with.”  A short while later folks in the Kansas City area, including Rod, got beat up pretty bad in a damaging hailstorm.  You can see why it is so very important every time to ‘touch wood’ after saying things sometimes:))

OH OH, WHAT'S THAT BIG NOISE ON THE ROOF!!

It was a month ago today that we toured the Beverly & Jim Rogers Cowboy Museum in Lone Pine California.  Click here....MY POST FOR THAT TOUR.  There was a lot of cowboy movie memorabilia there & some of it belonged to Roy Rogers.  The official ROY ROGERS MUSEUM closed last summer in Branson Missouri fetching $2.9 million dollars.  Thought it was kind of interesting seeing all the things auctioned off at Christies & how much a lot of Roy & Dale's stuff sold for.  The 1946 Willys CJ-2A Jeep known as Nellybelle and used on Roy and Dale's TV show, fetched $116,500.

  1. Al you're right we did get a little rain down here at Dogpound South yesterday, but are back in the sunshine today.

I was thinking about your recurring fear about your solar panels. Why don't you just get a couple of sheets of styrfoam insulation along with a little duct tape and cover them up for the summer, no charging your batteries but no worries and you can probably keep your batteries fully charged with some of that good old Ontario Hydro.

  2. I don't like hail when I'm in the motorhome. I do like your fog shot, though. :)

  4. I think you followed your good intuition returning to Ontario when you did. I hope I can make my trip back east, and I sure hope the weather cooperates. It's a crap shoot, though.

  5. We have been hailed upon over the years many times before, but for some reason, this last storm had much bigger hail, LOL. Or CoL. And yes it did beat up stuff a bunch, including all of our vehicles that are parked outside.

Ya just never know, but we do know that it isn't optional to leave. We're stuck here for the duration. We can't go hide up in Canada, but you'll have your nasty weather later in the summer.

  6. I really like your fog picture. That was really pretty. Glad your hail was only pea size. But even pea size makes lots of noise and a tin roof even more so.

Today was pretty nice here in NV - once we got out the door anyhow.

  8. It was in the 60's when I woke up today, then up to 84 and HUMID! And tonite storms. I told my daughter about my idea for wrappng the RV and she has a friend near where she lives in Colorado that has a sign business and he does vehicle wraps, so it will probably get done sometime within the coming year.

  9. I had a 1942 MB Willys jeep, it was a flat head 4 with a two bladed radiator fan, the best you could get out of it was 45mph on the level and it was making a racket then,The CJ-2 was the post war civilian model and almost all parts would fit on the old MB, the major difference was it't motor was a combination flathead/overhead,with the intake valves in the block and the exhaust vales in the head. I gave it to my brother Rick and he put a Buick v-6 in it and CJ-5 axles, that made it look like a WW2 jeep and perform like a newer one. He also had a lot of money tied up ion it.Be safe out there. 10. Al, those solar Panels are probably the least of your worries in a HAIL storm. I had 8 big panels on my 5th wheel and have had them for over 10 years. I've had some super Hail stones hit them as South dakota and Nebraska is a Hail alley.... All your vents and A/C covers will go first. My object was to cover the roof with them,,,it was good protection....

They are much better for keeping your batteries topped off that an electrial charger...much softer charge and not as hard on the batteris...As I have told you before, I hate HAIL!! It brings me to my knee's every time....

  11. I'm (Janna) jealous, suntanning won't be in the cards for me for another couple of months, my AZ tan is fading fast.

  12. As Will Rogers (I think) used to saym "Everybody talks about the weather; nobody does anything about it." I guess Mike McFall at least protected his vent covers with solar panels! Weather has been good here except bad winds Friday and Saturday. We delayed driving home after a rally because of the wind Friday, but it was just as bad, if not worse, Saturday when we DID drive home. And there was rain to add to it!

  14. Wisconsin had baseball size hail yesterday...and a town upended by a tornado...All we got was a little wind. We should enjoy it while we can..back into the 40's Saturday...Spring just cannot seem to get any "staying power" yet!#@&%#@

  18. Ooh. I actually shed a tear to hear of the closing of the Roy Rogers museum. My very first crush was on Roy. My husband and I visited the museum just before it moved to Branson. It was one of the best experiences ever. What a walk down Memory Lane! I only wish we had visited while Roy was still alive.

Happy Trails, Roy & Dale! 'Til we meet again.

  19. Sorry about all the hail, but we're happy that we've finally found the sunshine in Bishop, CA. Thanks to your great photos and comments, we're planning to go down to Lone Pine and see some of that cool stuff that you saw there. We've never done much in the past south of Bishop, for some reason. I think it has to do with the Sheepherder Bread at Schat's Bakery here in Bishop.

The sun is finally shining on us and we're enjoying it.
