IT WAS A NICE DAY FOR MICROSOFT'S STREETS & TRIPS TO ARRIVE

DSC_0010
Oh Oh, sure looks like I got my Kiwi’s & Aussie’s mixed up in Wednesdays blog. The name Kiwi derives from the kiwi, a flightless bird, which is native to, and the national symbol of, New Zealand.  My apologies to our new blog following Kiwi friend.  And, speaking of Aussies…..Did you know that pronouncing the word with an /s/ in place of the /z/ is considered by Australians to be a canonically American error.  Yep, I even went & looked up the word canonically…..now I’m even more confused than ever:((  Welcome to Al’s latter years:))  Say, d'ya suppose if a Kiwi & an Aussie got together, they might produce a baby Kiaussiewi.................

Kelly informed me this morning that in last night's post I made it sound like our taps have been leaking for 4 years now.  Not so the case.  First noticed kitchen sink leak just before we went south last November & the bathroom leak just started since arriving home.  Thought I’d better get that cleared up right quick before I began leaking something from a frying pan related head wound!!

Thanks to Andree for becoming our 263rd blog Follower.  Appreciate you thinking of us Andree:))  And, it looks like IVAN & HAILEY are slowly making their way up the northern California coast biding their time until all that miserable snow gets itself out of western Canada.  Had to get after Ivan a bit because he forgot to include some pics of Hailey in his latest post.  With Hailey being the Star she is, I'll bet she noticed there wasn't a photo of her in the post either!!  Could be a royal rumble in the Jungle over there in Trinidad.....California that is:))

Ever wonder what you would do without your TV.  Check out, MERIKAY'S DREAMS ARE WRITTEN IN SMOKE & see how their satellite feed has gradually diminished & finally gone dark.  And while there do not miss Merikay’s ANIMALHEAD site.  Or, ‘How to Get A Head Without Hunting.’  We truly do have another fine artisan in our blogging family.  Merikay also has an informative section which shows how she crafts her work.  Animalhead.com is not to be missed!!

GEARING UP SOME OF OUR FLOWERPOTS THIS MORNING
Had ourselves a mighty fine big bright productive sunny Spring day.  Frog pond pump is hooked up & the little waterfall is running again complete with some early live frogs showing up already.  Never can figure out where they all come from but they somehow turn up on their own every Spring.  Hope they packed their little raincoats because is looks like we are in for a very rainy week-end:((

SPENT SOME TIME THIS MORNING CHOPPING APART THE LAST REMAINING BANK OF SNOW IN OUR BACK YARD
Our Microsoft Streets & Trips showed up today but boy oh boy did we ever get clobbered hard with shipping charges & duty for the package to make it into Canada.  It was under a hundred dollars but not by much.  Package was valued at $229.82 for 6 copies of Streets & Trips.  Our fault for not having pre-thought the duty & shipping costs.  Had we done so we would have had the package sent to Kelly’s Mother’s house in Spencerport New York.  The Microsoft package contained 5 Streets & Trips plus one Streets & Trips with GPS locator.  We will keep the GPS locator version.  Three copies will be given away to RV friends & I haven’t decided how we will give the other two away yet but will make my mind up on that within a couple days.  And a special thanks to Joani Jones representing Microsoft for her promise to get those free Streets & Trips to us.

Kelly’s Mother underwent full knee replacement surgery on Wednesday morning & Kelly will be heading down to Spencerport New York shortly to help her Mother through some of the recovery process.  That knee surgery is not for the faint of heart & for anyone heading down that path I strongly suggest you read & follow along Laurie’s detailed day by day account of her husband Odel’s partial knee replacement including all pre-op procedures & post operative care including rehab.  Laurie & Odel are full time RVers so Odel is presently recovering in their Motor Home in California.  I will include Laurie’s latest blog & for anyone interested they can easily go back through Laurie’s posts to the beginning pre-op meetings, appointments & procedures.  Check out SEMI - TRUE TALES OF OUR LIFE ON THE ROAD.

GROANER’S CORNER:((   A young blonde haired woman went to her doctor complaining of pain.
"Where are you hurting?" asked the doctor.
"You have to help me, I hurt all over", said the woman.
"What do you mean, all over?" asked the doctor, "be a little more specific."
The woman touched her right knee with her index finger and yelled, "Owe, that hurts." Then she touched her left cheek and again yelled, "Ouch! That hurts, too." Then she touched her right earlobe, "Ouch, even THAT hurts", she cried.
The doctor checked her thoughtfully for a moment and told her his diagnosis; "You have a broken finger."

  1. I knew the Aussies were from Oz, so now I know that they are Ozzies?

Can Microsoft Streets & trips be worth the shipping costs? Just asking, I can't use it anyway on my Mac.

  3. Hi Al, thanks for the nice complement.

I'm surprised to see that you still have a snow bank to break up. It looks pretty much like spring up there!

I've been reading About Odel's knee surgery and I'm not sure i would sign up for it. Although i know several who have gone thru it and went back for the second knee.

  6. Cute photo of Cora on the computer. You sound very happy today - must be from having the young plumber crawling around under the house fixing your pipes. Better than doing it yourself. I sure wouldn't want that job!

  7. We were lucky, Joanni put the six she sent us in UPS and it arrived a few days later not duty no postage due.Sending them out to my winners was easy you get a box for free at the Post office and address it and they will ship it anywhere in the US for under $5.00,The winner in Canada was sent to Nova Scotia, the fee for that one was $19US had to declare a value of $50 so they would send it.Another aside, the US packages took about 3-4 days to reach their destinations, The Canadian package took over two weeks.Don't know who's Post service is to blame for that. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna...

  8. Yup.. I got my new version from Sam's drawing on his blog. I had S&T 2007 with the GPS dongle that was full of glitches and erratic and would crash from time to time.

Happy to report the new 2011 works fine with my GPS dongle and has a lot of new features, updated maps and it converted over all my old saved maps and routes and pushpins to the new maps! wheeee

  9. Yep, I have to agree with Kelly, I thought your pipes had been leaking for years! Glad you didn't get a frying pan injury! Best of luck to Kelly's Mom.

  10. Thanks for the info on the smoothies. I will have to try a vegetable one. I love vegetables though and eat lots of them. The blonde joke is a hoot.

  11. Is it just me, or are you content to be home, puttering around the yard and smiling lots?? Lately your blogs have sounded more "satisfied" and "content", even though you're not in your RV..Could it be we are getting soft and comfy ..wherever we are...just happy to BE ANYWHERE!! That seems to be my take on things lately....V...PEACE..

  12. Al, you lucked out! When I got my supply of Streets and Trips, none of them had the GPS thingy! I emailed Joanie and she told me the response was so large, they ran out of the ones with the GPS and had to ship the other version. Now I gotta see if we can hook up with our little Garmin GPS so we can plan in Streets and Trips and navigate with Jill (that's our Garmin's name, for some reason). We will give our family a crack at the Streets and Trips, and use any left over for drawing prizes at a rally in October.

  13. Happy to join your blog Al! Started to read it last october and never since missed a day.

We where supposed to go fulltime this summer, but the canadian issues had us change our minds...we are mouving in a new house in the country on may 14. And as of novembre of this year we will be snowbirds. I sure hope it will be for many years!

Would be nice to meet the bunch on the way to the south-ouest.

    Have a great one.
