JUST A NICE DAY TO KICK BACK & RELAX:))

DSC_0157

TONIGHT’S PHOTOS ARE A SMATTERING OF PAST & PRESENT BISBEE PICS

A day of rest for the Bunch today.  Lots of sunshine as we got up into the low 60’s.  Totally acceptable:))

I think one of the greatest concerns to most RV’ers is having an RV slide fail to retract.  We had that happen one time near Carlsbad New Mexico when we had our 5th wheel.  Amazingly enough I was able to manually retract the slide with a long crank handle type thing that fitted into a slot & with some easy turning returned the slide to it’s proper spot.  No idea why the slide stuck in the open position in the first place but it never did happen again.  Ivan from ROADTRIP 2010 found himself in a similar situation a few days ago with a malfunctioning slide motor.  It’s interesting to see how he dealt with that problem.

And just a reminder to any new or seasoned RV people with any kind an RV problem.  The RV NET FORUM is one of the best places for finding solutions to whatever RV problem you may have.  Always lots of fellow RV folks with years & miles of experience there to help you.  The forums have many topics such as RV Parks, Lifestyle, Around the Campfire discussions, Snow Birding, Boon Docking, Fulltiming, Travel Routes, General RVing Issues, Beginning RVing, Rallies, Tow Vehicles, etc. etc.  It’s a free site so add it to your Favorites or put it on your desktop & don’t leave your driveway without it.  It is the first place we go in trying to find a solution to any RV related problem:))  And, while on help topics, here’s great site for RV folks wanting to get a jump start on meeting other RV folks.   Just hop over to HITCHITCH:))  We probably get more traffic sent our way from Hitchitch than anywhere else.

And, just in case anyone out there has been living a sheltered life in a broom closet somewhere & has not heard of Skype let me just say that we & the majority of RV’ers we know are Skype users.  Skype’s website says….. “Skype is software that enables the world's conversations. Millions of individuals and businesses use Skype to make free video and voice calls, send instant messages and share files with other Skype users. Everyday, people also use Skype to make free computer to computer calls & low-cost calls to landlines and mobiles.”  Neither Kelly or I are big cell phone people & the cell phone we have is just a basic plan for emergencies.  We first heard of SKYPE 3 years ago & have been enjoying it’s great super service ever since.

Always enjoy RVing blogs where folks are out & about seeking new adventures off the beaten path & getting themselves out into the natural environment.   I am always amazed by the number of  Lady RV’ers taking the bull by the horns & getting themselves right out there into the outdoors & mixing it up with whatever Mother Nature throws at them.   Ride along with fulltiming ‘boondocker’ Diana Tolerico in a rough & tumble driving convoy through the Barry M. Goldwater Air Force Range east of Yuma.  LIFE ON THE OPEN ROAD

AND, THE BISBEE CAR’S DRIVER:))

On both Jeep tours in Borrego Springs the last couple of years it was ladies driving the lead vehicles that led everyone through gravelly dry creek beds, rutted gulches, up & over washouts & across rock faces & boulders.  We were back seat drivers on those two runs bouncing around like ping pong balls in the crammed rear space of Jeep Wranglers but this year we’ll be in the cozy comfort of our own Jeep’s front seats for a change:))

THEY HAVE SOME MIGHTY BIG BOOKS IN THE BISBEE LIBRARY

Well, it sure sounds like some fellow Canadian RV’ers have fallen on some very hard times here… ROADSIDE RAMBLING:((

SPOTTED THIS COLORFUL PLACE ON THE WAY HOME FROM BISBEE WEDNESDAY…ONLY IN THE WEST THEY SAY:))

In Wednesday’s blog the first photo shows a glass blower through a reflective store window.  Some folks have had trouble finding the glass blower fellow. (including Kelly)  The flame from his torch is dead center in the picture & just to the right of center you can see him sitting in a red shirt with his back slightly to the camera.  This photo was my contribution to Bisbee’s ‘artsy side:))’  Here is that photo again.

On our Rhyolite Trail hike the other day in the Chiricahua National Monument I had some deer photos in the blog.  Ed from THE PEREGRINATING FALCON left the following comment about the deer we saw.  Part of Ed’s comment read,  “That is not just ANY deer that you saw that is a Coues Whitetail. Coues (properly pronounced "cows", but almost everyone pronounces it "coos") is a small subspecies of white-tailed deer found in Arizona, New Mexico and Mexico. This deer has developed such a reputation for being able to vanish from view in the smallest amount of cover that it is frequently referred to as the "Grey Ghost". Famous big-game hunter Jack O'Connor proclaimed the Coues deer to be "the most difficult of all deer to kill" due to its extreme wariness and the inhospitable habitat this deer can live in.”  Thanks Ed & we did notice these deer seemed to blend right in with the background & if you took your eyes off them it took a few seconds to relocate & refocus on them again.

Friday we plan to head north up the Valley to the town of Willcox & have us a look see what their annual festival, ‘Wings Over Willcox’ is all about.  Who knows, maybe a 10 pound apple pie might find it’s way into my pocket:))

GROANERS CORNER:((  The huge college freshman decided to try out for the football team.  "Can you tackle?" asked the coach.

"Watch this," said the freshman, who proceeded to run smack into a telephone pole, shattering it to splinters.

"Wow," said the coach. "I'm impressed. Can you run?"

"Of course I can run," said the freshman. He was off like a shot, and, in just over nine seconds, he had run a hundred yard dash.

"Great!" enthused the coach. "But can you pass a football?"

The freshman hesitated for a few seconds. "Well, sir," he said, "If I can swallow it, I can probably pass it."

I'd be checking out the 10lb. apple pie in Wilcox for sure and I'd find a place for it in the Jeep!!

  6. Great Bisbee pics Al....they are really wetting my appetite for when we get to spend some time there in February! Enjoy the sense of play and colour in the Bisbee folks!
Also love the pic of Kelly in her funky hat, new "short do" and with her beautiful smile! Very nice!

  7. Fortunately our lack of slides makes the non-retracting slide something I don't worry too much about. I can, however, strongly second your recommendation of the RV.net forum as a super-quick way to get informed opinions on any issue that may come up.

  9. Ahhh loved the pics of Bisbee today, it's a "must stop" place after your pics of the looms yesterday.

Steveio's ears perked up at the 10 pound apple pie. So where do we get such a delightful delicacy?

  10. Den and I were in Bisbee about 20 years ago, and don't remember it being so "out there"....Now it reminds me somewhat of old Sante Fe, the artsy district..Some very interesting characters...Like a blast of San Fran in the 60's..kinda..

  11. Thanks for the mention, guys! Kelly, you asked about how you go about getting on the Barry Goldwater Range. I answered the question in my most recent post. You need a permit, but they are easy to get. Hope you get to go!
