A REFLECTIVE RAINY DAY

DSC_8147

THIS ROAD IS CALLED PORTER HILL LINE & IT'S OUR QUIET PATHWAY TO & FROM FROM THE CITY OF GODERICH

My, my, how things do change with time.  When I was a kid it always took a team of Doctor's & nurses on horseback to round me up if I was to get any kind of a needle.  This morning I walked into the medical clinic, sat in the big chair, 'prick' & I was back out the door in minutes.  No fuss, no muss, no bother.  And no running for hours through dense underbrush with a swat team of Doctors & Nurses on horseback chasing me down with a big needle!!

It has been a real roller coaster of emotions for Kelly these past few days.  There has been sad times & there has been happy times.  There have been stressful times & their have been quiet reflective times.  Her daughter Rebecca flew in from Spain a few days ago & another daughter, Sarah, flew in with her husband & new twins from Vancouver.  Kelly had never met Bradley or the twins before.  Son's, Jason & Ben & daughter Sabra all drove down from Cambridge, Ontario bringing with them their friends & families as well.

A TOUCH OF RAIN ON THE ROAD THIS MORNING

Kelly said there were throngs of people at the visitation Wednesday & she met some relatives that she had not seen in 50 years.  Many great stories about her Dad that she had never heard before.  Frank was one of those guys who had a knack for turning total strangers into friends in just a matter of minutes.  The funeral was at 11 this morning.

KELLY TOOK THIS PICTURE OF HER DAD IN THE FALL OF 2008

Kelly thinks she might head for home Friday morning despite the heavy Labor Day traffic which will congest the highways & make for long line-up's getting across the border.  But, Kelly is an exceptionally strong person & will handle the journey like a pro, just like she efficiently handles everything else in her life.  There are exceptional human beings in this world & it has always amazed me how I was so fortunate to end up with one of them.

Yes, it sure looked like the Jeep was parked overlooking a mighty ocean in yesterday's blog but it is actually one of the largest fresh water lakes in the world.  We are so fortunate to live about 3 minutes from the beautiful sandy shores of Lake Huron on it's eastern Canadian side.  Excellent swimming with no salty water to encrust the swimmer.  And we don't got no sharks in the water or anything else that will eat you up either:))

Overnight rains finally brought down our heat & humidity & despite an overcast day it is OK to go outside again.

Now that September is here it is once again that time of year to bring out......the lists!!  If it wasn't for the lists I would be in a total ker-fuffle.  The lists are the same as last year & the year before that because each year it is basically the same items that have to crossed off the list.  I'm talking about the RV Pre-Trip list of course.  As any Snow Birder knows there is a multitude of things to take care of before finally transitioning from Home # 1 to Home # 2.  Sticks & bricks to RV.  One home has to be systematically decommissioned while the other home has to be slowly brought up to speed.  I won't go into all the things on my list because there are too many, but I do have them arranged under a few headings such as....'Things To Start Now' - 'Things To Work On' - 'Outside Stuff' - & 'Last Minute Stuff' etc.  Under these headings are of course sub categories & so on.

Everybody has a different way of doing their lists & once again there is no right & wrong way to do it.  Whatever works for you is the important thing.  There are lots of sites on the internet for helping RV'ers prepare a checklist & I would recommend the RV NET FORUMS for all the help you will ever need.  I believe the RV Net Forum is the best all round RV help site on the Internet.  Any question you can think of you will find lots of fellow RV'ers in the forums ready to help you in a moment's notice.  And they cover every aspect of RV life that you can think of.  These are the people on the road with the every day practical answers.  And most of them are the people truly living the RV lifestyle..................

GROANER'S CORNER:((

'MONEY'

-It can buy a house
But not a home
-It can buy a clock
-But not time
-It can buy you a position
But not respect
-It can buy you a bed
But not sleep
-It can buy you a book
But not knowledge
-It can buy you medicine
But not health
-It can buy you blood
But not life............
So, you see money isn't everything and it often causes pain and suffering. I tell you this because I am your friend and as your friend I want to take away your pain and suffering!!
So, send me all your money and I will suffer for you!
Cash only please:)))))))  (it's a joke, it's a joke)

  1. Nice to read that Kelly will be heading for home in another day.

Lists are great! We use them even though we fulltime and do not snowbird. That way we only forget a few things and not a whole bunch of stuff.

    Take care, Al.

Love that road you talked about. If I had to drive that back home, I'd be as "limp as a dish rag" by the time I got there... so peaceful.
Take care and have a great weekend!

  6. I think it takes a long time to get over the lose of a parent, no matter what your age. And if that parent was exceptional, it probably takes even longer. :( Best wishes to Kelly, and you.

I love lists, and checking things off on those lists. :)

  9. Like the others, we are glad Kelly will be home, the two of you have each other, and that is perfect! And like you, I have been blessed with a strong, capable, intelligent partner. Aren't we the clever ones! Right now we need a list for motel trips, 'cause they are a pain!
