THAT DARNED OLD HITCH ITCH IS BUGGING ME AGAIN!!

OUR AZALEA'S ARE BLOOMING

Randy over at the ROADRUNNER CHRONICLES had a good post Saturday about his thoughts on their first year of full time RVing.  It's a good read for full timers or those just transitioning into the lifestyle or thinking about it.  Although we are Snow birders I could identify with just about everything he said.

HEY, YOU THERE IN THE SUN ROOM!!

After reading Randy's post this morning it got those darned old hitch itch gears to turning in my head again.  That's a fine thing if your in a position to scratch that itch & just hitch up & roll on.  If your not, it can be a real darn pain in the asparagus!!

WEIGELA

We were very serious a couple years ago about the full time lifestyle & I would still very much like to have a go at that but it's a big decision & it's a two people decision.  If both parties are not on the same wave length it just isn't going to happen.   It's true, we have a very nice cozy, safe, & secure little place here in Bayfield but we have been here nearly 7 years now & for me staying in one place that long is a huge stretch.  Yes, it's nice to have a home to come home to but to sit still in one spot for 6 months of the year now that we have been traveling is extremely hard for me to do.  It would probably help if we could do a few short trips in the summer but with Kelly's work situation we just can't do that.

SOLOMON SEAL

These past few years have shown me an alternative & much livelier lifestyle than this more customary & routine stay at home living.  There is still so much to see & do out there & luckily for us we are still healthy enough to do it.....so far!!  But whether we'll take that big step some day remains to be seen.   Most RV folks will understand what I'm saying here & most sticks & bricks people will not.  There, now I feel more like my good old Cursmudgeony self again.  D'ya suppose this dull gray rainy day had anything to do with my thinking.....Naw, say it isn't so, I love da rainy days!!

ONE OF OUR RESIDENT FRONT YARD PEANUT VENDORS

I had better clear something up about the photo of that yellow Jeep Wrangler I had in the blog a couple days ago.  At the time I put that photo in we were very close to making a decision on trading in our 99 Dodge mini-van on that Wrangler & I figured we had it in the bag.  However, after much thought & discussions about pros & cons we finally decided this morning that it just was not the right thing for us to do at this time.  We have too many unknown variables in the mix at the moment but I still see a Jeep Wrangler in our future somewhere down the road, but just not right now:((

I know a lot of people aren't into bird's & flower pictures all the time but unfortunately that's just about all I have right now until something more exciting decides to happen in front of my camera lens............................

GROANER'S CORNER  It's that time of year for us to take our annual senior citizen test.
Exercise of the brain is as important as exercise of the muscles. As we grow older, it's important to keep mentally alert. If you don't use it, you lose it!  Take the test presented here to determine if you're losing it or not.

OK, relax, clear your mind and begin.
1. What do you put in a toaster?

<

<

<

Answer: 'bread.' If you said 'toast' give up now and do something else..
Try not to hurt yourself.

If you said, bread, go to Question 2.

<
<
<

2.  Say 'silk' five times. Now spell 'silk.' What do cows drink?

Answer: Cows drink water. If you said 'milk,' don't attempt the next question. Your brain is over-stressed and may even overheat. Content yourself with reading a more appropriate literature such as Auto World.

However, if you said 'water', proceed to question 3.

3. If a red house is made from red bricks and a blue house is made from blue bricks and a pink house is made from pink bricks and a black house is made from black bricks, what is a green house made from?
<
<
<

Answer: Greenhouses are made from glass. If you said 'green bricks,' why are you still reading these???
If you said 'glass,' go on to Question 4.

4 Without using a  calculator - You are driving a bus from London to Milford Haven in Wales . In London , 17 people get on the bus.
In Reading , 6 people get off the bus and 9 people get on.  In Swindon , 2 people get off and 4 get on.  In Cardiff , 11 people get off and 16 people get on.  In Swansea , 3 people get off and 5 people get on.  In Carmathen, 6 people get off and 3 get on.  You then arrive at Milford Haven ..  Without scrolling back to review, how old is the bus driver?

<

<

<

Answer: Oh, for crying out loud!
Don't you remember your own age?  It was YOU driving the bus!!

  1. Birds and flowers are nice...but your birds and flowers are fantastic and beautiful. I enjoy seeing the variety of birds you collect in your yard there in Bayfield. Really amazing. The close up views you show are the best ever.

Even if you can only be a snowbird RVer, at least you can hang out in a really beautiful part of the world during your summer months. It could be worse. :)

  2. The groaner today was really cute, had to run that by my son and he failed them all (okay he's 9).
I think the fulltime lifestyle is good, but you really live in a beautiful area with some great flora and fauna, maybe just be content with having both for a while longer?
Great link to Roadrunner's post. I will have to start following them too now!
At leaset you can spend summers taking great photos of your area, looks like a nice place to live, for 6 months out of the year anyway!
    Cheers.

  3. Like Margie said, your birds and flowers pictures are great, so just keep 'em coming. I'm glad we've never had the urge to become fulltimers. Otherwise, I'd probably be going through the same kinds of issues your facing. I'm sure in the end though, you'll both make the decision that's right for both of you. In the meantime, 6 months or so of RV'ing is better than nothing at all!!

  4. Keep in mind that you won't be able to get supplementary medical insurance for the States if there is anything wrong with you. We had many years of snowbirding and then cancer hit and no more insurance even though the cancer is gone and we are healthy now. Also as you get older it is more and more expensive. Go for your fun while you are still able.

  5. Ya that hitch itch bit is bad, but don't do it least yer pipes break and the engine blows or something. Remember Rod had to go and say he had hitch itch and then it was water all over everywhere.

  6. I can well understand the itch to go somewhere. For me, I don't ever want to live even 6 months at a stretch in an RV again, but I want to go camping in the worst way. City life has me yearning to look at trees and the sky, listen to birds, and just enjoy the peace of wild things.

Of course my next camping trip will probably be with my family, and the wild things will be my sons.

  7. Know what your going through Al, I am waiting another week for my Grandson to get out of school and then it will be Memorial Day weekend so we will sit that one out, but later in the week I might hitch up and spend a couple days at a State park. Hey if you tire of birds, do like I do and try trains, there Big Noisy, and are a moving target, also up there by you they are a nice shade of red. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna..

  8. We still get a big case of hitch itch once in a while, but I believe we are coming to terms with certain limitations. Ain't gonna give up on RVing, but we'll enjoy the old desert homestead while we are here!

  9. I keep telling Den that we should take one year, keep our home, and meander around the country in the Hiker...I think it's a GREAT plan..Den isn't so sure...Like you said...it takes two. Keep the flora and fauna pics coming..I LOVE the black squirrels you get up there!!! Keep on keepin' on!

  10. That hitch itch is rough stuff. I agree with those that have already posted concerning your flowers and birds. They are simply awesome and your home is beautiful. Through your travels you are able to experience some amazing things (some never leave their porch to see). You have the better of both worlds!!
Loved that "senior test" and I won't tell you how far I got. NEVER!
    Take care,
    Mike & Gerri

  11. Al,

What about a W/E trip around? Maybe even a long W/E once in a while.
Georgian Bay Islands? Awenda Park? Huron Forest? Somethng to get out... It's not the same, but better than nothing, and will not interfere with Kelly's work.

Love your pictures - and the birds are lovely! BTW - Just got Adobe PS Element and Topaz Add-Ons - exploring it, very interesting.

  12. Yes, the hitch itch can get pretty bad. Do it while you can; but only if both of you want to. I'm lucky to have someone who wants to go, too. I'm loving the pics - my husband and I have never even heard of a black squirrel. He's (she?) beautiful - we just have the gray ones here in southern Cal.

  13. Your photos are always amazing, and I love birds and flowers. I have to say if I had to stay somewhere for 6 months of the year Bayfield would be a great spot. As I look at all your photos it is now on my list of places to visit. :)

  14. Yes, we get hitch itch all the time, and having the rig right here in the driveway makes me want to GO GO GO each time we walk out the door! And each weekend we do go camping, and we sure HATE having to come back each Sunday.

Yah for next weekend, Steve has friday off and monday too, so it will be a 4 day camping weekend!!!
